AFAIK they go about 100-120 yards, hit with a bit more than 22LR, but not a lot, and are supersonic. So... 22 magnum anyone?!
-
Quite possibly. Generally they have the same action length so magazine etc should remain similar, so I expect it's possible. But.. I am no gunsmith so hopefully someone else knows for sure.
-
nope, although tbh my 243 does 3900fps so I'd rather use that I think. Does it offer any advantage except the speed?
-
OK, so it's to be a field gun, rather than a range gun? In that case I would get something lighter, like the normal SPS in Remington terms, or a Tikka T3 light or Hunter.
-
If you mean the SPS Varmint, it's not too bad purely for weight, but it's got crap balance anyway, so with a moderator it will be far, far too front heavy. The laminated versions, like the Howa heavy barrel, are very heavy and so will take some carrying. I have a Howa 1500 Thumbhole Varmint in 223, and it's a lovely rifle, but lugging it round the field the other day did my back. Gotta be more careful... What are you planning on shooting with the 308?

22-250 is a good calibre, should the situation arise. But.... since you plan to get 243 later anyway, I would get a 223 now. Simple reasons: 1. 223 is far cheaper than 22-250. 2. It's nearly as good, will happily knock over foxy at 300 yards. 3. Also does the job on a roe deer north of the border. Your 243 will be too close to 22-250 as a fox round, and the 243 is better. As a pure deer rifle, I wouldn't get 243 when other calibres are available. Therefore, 243 as a combination fox/deer rifle makes great sense, ably assisted by 223 for cheap foxing (and it's cheap enough you can bash

Good going, sounds like you had a massive amount of fun there

Land checks are required under the Home office guidance for FAC weapons, so an air rifle is covered. But, an FEO can exercise discretion for all of it, so if they don't want to, they won't. As for FAC air and 17HMR and then no 22LR, I must disagree very strongly. 22LR is an essential tool, it's very versatile and with care can be used almost everywhere. 22LR will happily knock rabbits over out to 100 yards (or more), you just need to estimate the range and the drop correctly. FAC air, unless you have land where you really can't use any firearm, is pretty pointless. It's expensive to bu

OK, clearly people have had 10/22 problems. All I can say is this... I have a 10/22 T, it cycles everything I've ever asked it to (except Eley Zimmer, and they're 30 ft lbs so that's fair!!). It's accurate, and it has a decent trigger. The issue with the standard trigger is that it's crap, it's heavy, it has a rubbish pull etc etc! The 10/22T has the 'target' trigger, which is OK. To improve the trigger costs about 30 quid for a kit, or considerably more for a replacement trigger unit. But, so long as you keep it clean, it will work. And by clean, I mean if you go and blat a tin can, y

For shooting bunny rabbits the CZ is the better bet really. BUT the 10/22 is a perfectly capable rabbit rifle, contrary to popular belief all you need to fix is the trigger.

where have you seen the new one?

I have a Hawke Reflex 4-12x50 on my 243, it can be had for £45 on Opticswarehouse (at least it could a little while back). Not brilliant in low light, but very good apart from that, easily on a par with my Nikko Nighteater 4-16x50.

Ballistic Tips ~ Varmint Express Hornady 35gr V Max
Mr_Logic replied to a topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I did mention those things hit pretty hard I've yet to find any, but I knew what would happen from seeing them in other calibres and also seeing ballistics figures on them. Must get a box, it might rejuvenate my Hornet, as I've lost faith in it as I don't reload... -
Cheers mate

Good going Jamie, really glad to hear that you have got the ticket back. Good luck getting a rifle, let us know how you get on. -
Echoed everyone else - how much was that unit? Looks really good!

Out this evening with Deker, after deer mainly. Headed out to one of my permissions, where there are always deer, and they're pretty tolerant normally. We took them for granted first time round and they disappeared. Deker knocked over a crow in the meantime and we went off in search of deer at one of his permissions. No joy there, so we came back, having left things to quieten in the meantime. Got back and plenty of deer, but they were a way off and it was dusk by then. Headed over and got close enough for a shot, and they ran round us and got quite a way away. However, one finally

I got involved in this thread because your comments incensed me (sorry, that means made me angry, I'm guessing by your spelling you don't have much of a grasp on English). You condone poaching which gives the whole community a bad name and is illegal. You talk about disobeying laws because you don't like them. You are nearly illiterate, judging by your posts on here. I have no idea what your beef with Deker may or may not be; I posted on this thread because I disagree very strongly with you, to the point where IMHO you should have no access to any kind of firearm, and you need to be ed

i just got in from roaming .i have been offerd permision a lot of it but turned it down .i also let others shoot on ground beloning to my family i also help others get permision to fish and shoot and lamp on ground offerd to me because i think every one should be aloud to do so .not just because they got to mutch money it is a right we should all have .nobody is beter than any one else.we all end up in the same place .so i always treat others how they treat me thats the way i live my life and fcuk all is going to change me .and i dont pay very mutch tax iv allready stated this before in a no

You need to re-evaluate your life mate. That attitude is very counter-productive for you personally, and also shows the shooting community in a bad light. You live in a country with laws, we must obey them even when they are complete crap. However, the right of ownership of property, and the right to say what happens on that land, is perfectly fair and reasonable. Just because you don't have land or property, that attitude is completely wrong. if you're out poaching, and it sounds as if you are, I hope you are caught and dealt with by the authorities, or failing that, a very angry game kee

i under stand what you are saying but the reason the animals are suffering is all down to money some people can take their time to shoot their game with the proper gun because they either claim ownership of the ground .or are invited or employed by these so called owners .while others cant aford to pay .we are only here once if it was not down to money then the people claiming rights would not have a look in .i dont want to get into a debait with you it is just some thing i feel verry strongly about ,owenership of vast amounts of land and the way it is afecting the wild life some good and

Although I have heard that they don't eject 22LR live rounds, so problematic if/when you get a misfire. I was looking at one too, had the variation done and everything, but then bought a CZ in .22 and am very happy with it. I will get a 22WMR rifle rather than the quad barrel I had planned on, even though I need another variation

Good going. It's odd how committed some fox pairs are. I always feel better to shoot them both, stop one pining for the other. A bit sad maybe, considering the predator nature of them, but there you go...
