Went out shooting with Deker the other evening, he had the shotgun and me a 243, reckoned between us there wasn't a lot we couldn't cover. Idea was deer + anything else that showed up. Headed out only to find everything pretty quiet on the first permission. So we went over the road and things hotted up a bit. I'd not been out rough shooting with a shotgun, so I wasn't aware of the noise. Deker had some nice easy shots to get back into the swing of things, having apparently not used the shotgun for a while. First up was a crow, on the ground at 20 yards. Duly obliterated, Deker

Maxi-mag is either a 40gr FMJ or a 40gr HP; the HP will do the job very nicely! The Maxi-mag + V is a 30gr hollow point but isn't ideal because by 100 yards my HMR packs a bigger punch. But, if I had 22 Mag, I would be using any of the bullets Arcpest mentioned.

I'm negative about the Hornet and I've got one. With the factory ammo available around here it's rubbish. The 46gr Winchesters are OK (HP) but nothing special. Can't even get them in a 50 mile radius. The softpoints are shite, they don't expand at all. I want the 35gr Hornady; nobody has them, ever. If I reloaded it would be awesome, if people stocked the ammo it would be awesome. But... a quid a bang for hornet is bloody stupid, I refuse to pay that kind of money. And... a 223 can use factory ammo for 18p a bang, which may be comparatively rubbish but costs 1/10 of som

Well two of my landowners want them shot without AFAIK, a particularly good reason. So I shoot them.

you could get the Bushnell 6-24x50 Elite tactial 4200 for £300 if you look for them or get it from the usa. i no a couple of people that have mtc scopes and havent had a problem with them mate. what has happened to the one you had ? have you returned it to gary c and his wife sammy ? First scope had dust on the reticle, second one I couldn't get to hold zero, and adjusting it wasn't easy either - would get the old problem where clicks don't move the POI consistently. I have sent it back to them, waiting on the outcome. Where can I get the Bushnell for 300 quid because I want

Hmmmm. Benefit of the doubt, for now. I'd go with a Falcon Optics at that kind of money, their 4.5-18x56 should do the trick nicely. They boast very reliable adjustments, I am likely to pick one up shortly myself. Others will tell you MTC, but until they give me a scope that works and has decent glass I say avoid, up to now my experience there has been very sub-par. Or Bushnell 6-24x40 Elite 4200, but that's stretching your 400 quid.

True, but it's a stranger situation when the farmer wants them shot, but not for any particular reason, which is the case I've had quite often.

GMK directly?

Ah Guevara, thanks for dropping by. Could you please get the hint, and piss off and leave us all in peace? You ask questions but don't care what anyone says, and then you always say stuff like "My mates been shooting for 85 million years, he's started off napping flint and now he's got a .50 cal for rabbits because Cheshier police grant those" Just go away, we're fed up with it.
-
But the biggest problem with Hornet is getting hold of the bloody stuff, it's rarer than a rare thing! And it ought to be cheap, it's a very good rabbit round. if the ammo were cheap it would kill HMR stone dead, a far more capable tool with similar ballistics but more energy.
-
HI ss no cheshier polices will not give FAC for just shooting fox it is a no no with them all my mates told me when i filled the fac forms do not but down fox i am whating for my FAC to come i hope to have .22 sako and 17 hmr all the best mike Please, stop talking rubbish... Rimfire possibly but you ask them for a 223 for fox. They'll grant that...

Deker, Hornet is a waste of time for factory ammo I agree, but it's not too much for rabbit. Just need to shoot them in the head, a la 223. Problem with Hornet is simply that you can't get the factory ammo for it. If yuo could, at a sensible price, then it's a good calibre because it's quieter than 223, but gives you more range than any rimfire. The Hornady 35gr is the stuff to get - rapid expansion and a muzzle velocity of around the 3000-3100fps mark. So 200 yards without a second thought. However, I have never been able to find it. The short answer is this - if you want to sho

Hornet isn't normally mentored AFAIK, it's only little. But, it's also too little for muntjac, so if you want to shoot them you need something like 222 or 223. (NB, that is in the eyes of the law, a Hornet will quite happily knock over a muntjac deer...)

HI i am a vermin controle officer and i am still whating for my fac wich i was told by feo it will only be a week but that was four week ago . i was told do not but down you shoot foxs the police where i live do not like it at all i live in cheshier i hope this helps :gunsmilie: all the best mike I think you mean Cheshire. But anyway, that advice is utter crap, you cannot use fox c
-
Yes, you really can! I would expect that rifle to group an inch or so at that range, 5 shots.
-
I get Magtech for £45/1000.
-
But here's a thing, they won't issue a rimfire ticket for it, but you can shoot a fox with a rimfire - they are very definitely vermin!
-
it's easy to get the rifle into the UK, but the US has strict export laws meaning that by the time the paperwork is done the rifle costs as much as it does here. And since the rifles tend to go: Manufacturer ---> USA ----> UK, that explains the price I guess...
-
Get a 22 maybe, but believe you me, if you get the right 223 ammo and put it in the right place, the resulting rabbit will definitely be fit for the table.
-
Depends on the type of high powered bullet - FMJ and so on might not break up as fast as you think!
-
Do you have anything bigger than the muntjac to shoot? You might be better off with 243 if so. However, assuming it's just bunnies and munties, you can do that with 223 only. Get some el-cheapo ammo for the bunnies and away you go. 223 is a bit louder than 17HMR though, but if you're away from people that won't matter.
-
It does get me very grumpy indeed!
-
First one had dust on the reticle, I couldn't get the second one to hold zero, or have consistent turret adjustment, and the optics didn't seem as good. The first one had good optics, but... dust...
-
I've had 2, both faulty.
-
My MTC... well, the first one had dust in the reticle. The second one didn't zero up properly or hold a zero after a light knock. I am waiting for MTC to fix it/test it/send it back to me. Been a while, need to chase them.
