  1. Glad it's back, thanks Ian.
  2. You are right SS..it's not dead yet..it is of course a decent calibre and has many uses..just like the Hornet ...but times, circumstances and situations move on...it almost makes you cry that it is a .222 Remington, and Remington no longer chamber any gun in .222 Except this one: http://www.remington.com/products/firearms...l_799_specs.asp Although their website and reality, hmmm, and the odds of getting one over here I suspect are slim to none I liked the look of this back when I could be arsed to try to find Hornet ammo...
  3. SPS is a good rifle, the X Mark Pro trigger is awesome. Lightened with two turns of one screw, and then it's about the best trigger I've ever used on a hunting rifle. My SPS Tactical is awesome, shoots very straight and isn't ammo fussy so long as you don't insult it with cheap crap I would say to consider the CZ 527 Synthetic though. I have one of these, and spent a long time deliberating between it and a Tikka T3. I spent even longer deliberating over the SPS Tactical and SPS standard, so I've had a good old look at both. The CZ has a detachable mag which I find a godsend at nig
  4. Good going John, looks like they were in good nick, before a 223 bullet stopped all that
  5. Good gun, but... Personally I'd buy a Remington SPS Tactical which is what I have now. It's better than my Howa was because: 1. Cheaper - £500 vs £600-£650 (although that was the laminate version) 2. Fast twist barrel - Remington is 1:9, shoots 40gr well, and 75gr well. Not gonna get that from a Howa. 3. 20" barrel, much more versatile with no real loss of velocity. The weight and size of the Howa varmint, at least with the laminate stock, is extreme so not a field gun at all. The Remington will be better from a vehicle as it's much shorter. 4. More accurate. But only by a whiske
  6. And here was I about to sell my long range fox tool in favour of a close range deer tool... Might have to rethink things, unless you have 55gr plans for the new Tikka? Edit: Good going by the way Was that the 223 back out?
  7. I find my Bushnell one very handy indeed. Much quicker than pacing things out, and more accurate to boot.
  8. Strange, just got back from the US and didn't see a Nightforce, lots of other stuff but no Nightforce anywhere to be found... Picked up a Bushnell 3-9x40 3200 in the end, I was restrained! (Good thing too, the holiday wasn't cheap!)
  9. Started with rimfires in the CCF, then got air rifle of my own, then 22 of my own and never looked back...
  10. If you feel like an addition, then 243 works nicely. But so does 22-250 so there is no real need for a change, you just might fancy it!
  11. Yeah, take the stock off. THere is a screw just above the blade, turn it counter-clockwise to lighten the trigger.
  12. Right then, I'm off to the States in a few days' time ( :D) and plan to pick up a scope while I'm there. Anyone got any suggestions? It's going on my 223 to be used day/night at pretty much anything that needs to be shot. So versatility is key. I don't want weird and wonderful reticles - mildot's about as cluttered as I want. I am thinking 3-9, 2.5-10, 4-12 type magnification, rarely use any more. Important bit is clear, bright optics so I can use the lamp out to 250 yards, reliable adjustments. Don't want too much weight either as my little CZ currently weighs sod all and I'd lik
  13. injured/distressed animal = deal with it NOW. The law won't worry you for that one.
  14. The bog standard 10/22 is not a free floating barrel (neither is the 10/22T actually) by design, so I doubt it's that. Many rimfires aren't - my CZ 452 isn't and that's bloody accurate!
  15. F*** off. You have a problem with efficient pest control, this is the wrong site for you.
  16. Nope, it wasn't cut and the muppets at the firearms dept left the mod off the ticket. Jet Z CQB or Predator 8 should be about right. Get the Compact if you get the predator though.
  17. I just started using the CCI 20gr. My Quad prefers them. Shot a couple of rabbits, both body shots. Neither looked shot when I got there, but both had gone down cleanly. One had a small exit hole, the other I couldn't find at all.
  18. Deker has one, it's Sh1te. At least, not very quiet.
  19. dunno... Lots You're talking thousands even if you're being conservative. 22-250 is a field tool so it's going to last a fair while.
  20. Normally a bipod. The 244 yard one the other night was off a fencepost - as Deker says, whatever is there to give some support. Outshooting is master of the free standing shot though
  21. No, that was factory stuff. Remington or Sako 22-250 50gr ballistic tip - it used to love them!
  22. Good going mate, fox #2 is a bit icky! Gotta love 22-250
  23. Personally for the uses you have said I think a Sako is a tad OTT, great guns but you can do the same for hundreds less. The offer of a return is fine but involves a 1-for-1 variation so is a PITA. Sakos are good rifles though, you won't go far wrong with one. My 22-250 was a sub half inch rifle with 50gr ballistic tips, often doing .3". In fact if they weren't all touching I was annoyed, so it certainly did shoot!
  24. Trigger kit, they're dead easy AFAIK. Or you can replace the whole trigger unit, which is 2 or 3 pins, and a 30 second job.
