I get through rifles like ... well ... I dunno ... me! I did have thoughts of selling my CZ 223 earlier, when the swivel stud came out, complete with bipod et al. Hopefully the large lump of epoxy will hold it in place from now on - the plastic stock only has one place to screw in the stud so I've had to repair that rather than drill Oh, and it doesn't like Prvi ammo either so has rather blotted its copybook What was the shotgun that went? The Hatsan?

do you think i will get a SGC/FAC
Mr_Logic replied to whippeter69's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I think I'd turned 15 by the time they granted my first ticket, I was out shooting the rimfire unsupervised for ages, nobody cared. We had a wail of a time with my old 10/22, hipshooting at an abandoned milk float on the land. Great fun! By the time we moved away that thing looked like chicken wire with tyres on it! -
So long as you're not on a windy day and having to work that out, whack the not-all-that-thick-really crosshair on the head, HMR will hit the chest off a hundred-yard zero.... Or just get the 4-16 Schmidt, they're only like £1100-odd...
-
It's the #8, plain crosshair. Love it or a German #4 under the lamp, the heavy posts bring my eye quickly and easily to the centre. The sight picture at night on this thing amazes me; in the daylight I thought it good but not worth the cash. Assuming it's great with the lamp, no major white-out, then my goodness me...!

There is no difference at all - Christian at S & B sent me this: Our recommendation for your purposes would be the 8x56 German or Hungarian made; the only difference between these 2 models is the engraving, Made in Germany / Made in Hungary-all parts/optics etc are the same. So I'd get the Hungarian. I did, you seriously, utterly won't regret it!
-
Yes, that was my thought as I stepped back inside! Just another 5 to go... Only I will need some of their finer rets on some of the scopes, and more power, so about £6,000 worth. EEEEEK! Damn fine kit though.

I took delivery of a lowly 8x56 Hungarian Schmidt today, slapped it on my 223 and took it out into streetlight to compare with the MTC, Hawke and Falcon scopes I've been using before and have previously considered pretty good. I was amazed at the difference! Not too bad in daylight, but at night it's enormous. Can't wait to get it out shooting, but just looking out and about, I could see dark roofs, behind shining streetlamps, things I can't see with the naked eye at all. The best of my others, the Hawke, could just about make out the roof in question. Looking through the Schmidt, had

Glad to hear the WMR is working out well, you'll have to let me have a look-see at some stage
-
Blimey! That thing looks enormous! I think it would swamp my little CZ. Might have to stick to something a little more simple on that one. Now, the 243 might be different ;-)

387 yards? Cracking shot mate in terms of making a shot that far out, I take it you dial in adjustments rather than aim off? So... what scope? I want to extend the range, not getting much over 200 at the moment.

Newbie looking for advice (like we do)
Mr_Logic replied to AzMaN's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I'd start with a 22LR, forgiving and very versatile calibre, not to mention cheap! Then I'd get a 223 for foxes (and BTW folks, rabbits are very shootable with 223, head shot, and Prvi ammo is only a little more than HMR now). Deer... hmm... well, I have a 243 I used to use and a 308 I will use. Either works. I'd stick with common calibres, people like others but you know you'll get 243 or 308 ammo wherever you stalk. 308 will knock over any deer you like and nobody will raise an eyebrow regarding the power, which they might with 243. Equally, 243 kicks less so if you don't like recoi -
243 for fox and deer... hmm... I had that thought, always a compromise. My 243, when it's back from repair, will be basically a fox gun, as it will shoot the 55/58gr stuff, which is brilliant on Charlie but less great on deer. If I were buying a rifle again it'd be a CZ, or possibly a Howa. My 223 and new 308 are so well made next to RWS, Tikka et al that the difference is amazing. I suspect the Tikka and RWS will shoot straighter, but CZ's better made, corners aren't cut. The magazine, trigger, trigger guard are all steel. Rifle looks and feels proper. But, for a fox/deer gun, I'd no

That's a pain, unavoidable and does occur, well done for trying your best to find her though.

Right then... I have a Titan6 in 243, it's in for repairs. When it works, it is a terrific gun. Problems may or may not stem from the base screws coming loose, but they have an aluminium receiver as the bolt locks into the base of the barrel, not the receiver as normal. They are cheaply made but pretty accurate. Plastic trigger, badly painted silver (in that with a bit of wear the paint comes off), alu receiver as I said. But, they come with scope bases and mostly cut (albeit quite badly, pretty rough and ready finish). But, like I said, when it works, it works remarkably well. I'm loo

Well, now the proud owner of a CZ 550 in .308

What sort of Bushnell is it? Is it worth looking for these secondhand or do they break and stop working after a while? Many thanks Fastrac10 Sorry it took me a while, I have the Yardage Pro Scout, it wasn't much but works reasonably well. I'd get a new one, they're not that well made.
-
35gr vmax for Hornet, explodes nicely says everyone who I know who's used them. 3100fps so pretty flat too. Job done
-
If I said pheasant, chips and beans ... ?
-
Last I saw was £420, but that was longer than a week ago, I think people are taking the p1ss quite frankly. Being cheap, you could get the new Hawke (can't remember the name). I had a look through that and it was very good indeed. if I needed a scope I'd have bought it, can be had for about £130.
-
Right well I'm off to have a look at this CZ, he has Howas there too. Normally I'd probably get the Howa, but this time I think it will be CZ, it has iron sights and I'm gonna use them for once Had fun and more of a challenge with my bro's rifle in USA, old Lee Enfield, so for a while I'll try 'em
-
I don't think you need more than 10 power, HMR isn't a long range tool. I'd get something with mildot or similar ret though, the longer shots are handy. That said, at night you don't need it, most shots are flat for HMR anyway. I have a 3-9x40 Bushnell on mine, works well
-
You can buy a new one for that, get the Hungarian - same glass, cheaper hands to put the lenses in the tube 8x56 Schmidt would be my choice there tbh, with the heavy ret. Or Meopta, actually, less money, quality glass.

He can pop into my work :D

Scope mounte lightforce striker
Mr_Logic replied to tiestomac's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Seconded, works well. Odd that some scopes suffer this and others don't though... -
Right then, looking at investing in a 308 to knock over deer. Don't have much money so budget < £500. Currently a Parker Hale 2nd hand (£175 - £350 depending) or a CZ 550 brand new "but with a couple of marks" @ £450. I'm leaning to the CZ, I like my 223 Thoughts? Cheers muchly!
