I checked with Alliant on RL-17 - none in the UK - none has been ordered. My how we are on top of the ball...

About the flattest trajectory you can get? Are you talking about the same .222 the rest of the world is? It's a pretty flat calibre, but next to 223, 22-250, 204, 243, it's not that flat...
-
Out to 200 yards, there's nothing between them. 250 is easy with 223, and around 300 with the 22-250. Personally 223 works unless you need the longer range - do you?!

Firearms: Guidance to the police 2002
Mr_Logic replied to JonathanL's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
It is a useful document, but please bear in mind that it is a guidance document only; it is not a legal document, it does not form part of statute, so what it says is not binding in any way. -
Excellent glass is not cloudy at high mag... Personally for the money I think there are better scopes to be had - Bushnell's 4200 series is better VFM IMHO - similar glass without the massive mag range, and much cheaper.

Re-loading kit for .22 Hornet.Advice please.
Mr_Logic replied to gerald butler's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Hornet's easy enough to reload. 223 etc is easier, but mainly for me because I am not the smallest person in the world, and 223 cases are easier to work with! Matty - try some H110 if you can get your hands on it - mine shot the Lilgun well and the H110 better, and faster too. -
I'd get the 1:8 personally, I think it's more versatile - they often work with a lot of different bullets. Ric - No, they do 1:8 or 1:12, so you gotta pick one. My old Remington was 1:9, and that worked nicely too, I just wished it stabilised 75gr A-max - if it had I would still have it.

Mtc are the top end of Chinese crap. That's basically it... They Are ok if you've not known better, but once you have ...
-
22 Hornet with a v-max tip is equally frangible. It's also going faster so it's very likely to fragment instead of ricochet. I've used both rounds, I've not seen anywhere that I could take the shot with HMR but I couldn't with Hornet.
-
Anyone that says WMR is useless needs to try one! They shoot pretty well and hit much harder than HMR. HMR is OK for long range bunnies; WMR is a proper fox round to about 120 yards - and it does rabbits. HMR does have a slight advantage in terms of accuracy though, but the WMR is perfectly usable.

Slingshot, unfortunately what you say is very far from the truth. If you use a 46gr or 45gr bullet, factory load, then you are looking at 2500 to 2600 from a factory load, and you're looking at about 1" groups. I know, all my rifles shot factory to those parameters. if you use the Hornady 35gr load, you are looking at 3000+ fps and sub 1" groups. Unless you use crap ammo, Hornet destroys HMR. The cost is prohibitive unless you reload, but that's the only factor counting against it.

Leupold VX-3s are excellent. I have 2, and they're both really good. I also have a Mark 2 6-18x40 (the VX II Tactical jobby) and it's excellent as well. Any of those will destroy an MTC. I know Baz on AirgunBBS rates MTC, but I have 3 Leupolds which are great, and one MTC 6-24x56 which is a load of faulty Chinese tat. I know which I prefer!!
-
Slingshot, please don't talk rubbish, which you are at the moment. 22 Hornet shoots faster and flatter than a 17HMR, and it is just as accurate if you reload it and you have a half decent rifle (I've had 3, they all shot straight!). And... a Hornet is better in the wind, depending on the bullet you use. Easy choice for me between the 2, and it's not HMR!
-
No you can't have WMR on a .22RF ticket. theoretically you should be OK, but firearms depts do not license it this way, and RFDs generally won't sell it this way either. However, it is a good calibre, and yes it would be worth getting the barrel for your Quad.

Mine have had a lot, not sure quite how many, but quite a few! They are now a bit tired so I do need to get more though.

where have all the rabbits gone?!
Mr_Logic replied to langouroux's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Not seen any for a while really, very depressing! -
Sorry mate I missed this thread... I do have one. It's faulty, the much-vaunted customer support wasn't IMHO up to the task. Optically it's bearable for the money, but forget it in low light. Saw your other thread in the stalking section. If I were going to get a scope for a deer rifle (6.5 wasn't it?) and wanted to keep the cost down - 3 options - 1. Leupold FX3 6x42 - normal duplex ret, going to be all you need for deer, should be OK on fox too so long as you're not shooting them in the next county 2. Burris 3-9x50 Fullfield II (I do have one of these, it's great, good build qualit

What caliber do you like for fox shooting?
Mr_Logic replied to whippeter69's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
FAC air rifle that close in the head will be humane, no worries there... Bert - do you have an open ticket? If so, you could perfectly legally have used the .243... -
what calibre for muntjac?????????
Mr_Logic replied to gundogbob's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
You will obviously need to get permission, but it doesn't need to be written. And the game shooting rights do not necessarily pass with the title, as I understand it. -
Warne rings for Tikka/Sako
Mr_Logic replied to danebrewer10's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
I doubt it, Tikka has a straight receiver and the Sako 85 is a tapered one AFAIK, but I've only had the 75 and the T3. -

I would agree. The police, though, seem in some areas to think it better than issuing a pistol for such despatch. Don't get that myself... -

just bought an IOR comments please
Mr_Logic replied to blackfox's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
I'd like to see one of those in the flesh - border barrels don't really push them, when I rang to enquire they weren't much help, but I have heard a lot of good things! -
Not being funny - why are we arguing about whether or not people look at photos of annihilated rabbits (since foxes are usually only a bit manky)? Personally I think they're just rabbits and if a large calibre bullet causes what looks like a small explosion I don't much care, same goes with fox. Ultimately, if you get shot with any bullet it tends to leave a hole, and you'll get entrails and death with softpoints or ballistic tips - Deker and I have shot rabbits with 50gr SPs in the 223, and they're every bit as mangled as the ones hit with Vmaxes. My opinion on posting pictures of suc

That is a relatively new wording agreed by ACPO, it is being introduced across all regions to help clarify matters. IT WILL NOT! Quite simply because the wording will still be interpreted differently in different regions. The idea was to list a SINGLE Highest level quarry, and then add the new wording, ie you can shoot everything BELOW not above. Deer and other lawful quarry means, you can shoot deer and fox and rabbit and squirrel etc.. Fox and other lawful quarry means, you can shoot fox and rabbit and squirrel, etc (NOT DEER) See what I mean, it was meant to make li
