  1. Flippin 'ek..that doesn't sound encouraging. Have you still got it or has it gone?? the .204 was designed with 32 in mind I understand but a 4" group with 40g is certainly not good!! It has gone to Highland Outdoors. I am promised that this will shoot the 40 grain stuff or it will be replaced by one that does. So long as they test the replacement and send me the card with it, can't say fairer than that. Gunshop was talking about further testing, which of course would be financed by me at £1.50 a shot. Sod that one I figured I could have played around with the lighter bullets a
  2. Well done mate, did him a favour. A good distance too.
  3. Can't argue with a group like that! Rifle? Load?
  4. There is no difference between them whatsoever, except one says made in Hungary, the other Made in Germany. I emailed S&B about this, even they say go and buy the Hungarian, as there is no difference whatsover
  5. Don't talk to me about 204 at the moment. 4 inch groups with the Howa and 40gr ammo at 100 yards. Am trying to negotiate a refund/exchange tomorrow as I want to shoot specifically the 40 grain stuff. Might have to make do with 32 but hopefully not.
  6. Yep, get home, dismantle rifle, leave to dry (even overnight) Never put it away wet or damp, that way lies rust!
  7. The P8 is a better moderator than the T8. This is because: 1. It's alloy so it doesn't rust. I've seen 2 T8s which are looking very sorry for themselves. 2. Sound reduction might be a touch better, but note you need the right baffles - so if you have a 22 CF, they do a 22 baffle stack which works much better than the 25 stack, which in turn is much better than 30 cal. T8s don't care so much. 3. You can clean a P8 much more easily. 4. You can change calibre and size on a P8, you can't on a T8. They are similar price. All that said, I have a T8 on my CZ 223 and it's great. P8 on
  8. Am at work so you will want to check this, but in a 223 I use 28.3gr of AA2230 to drive the 35gr V-max. Worked OK but nothing special out of my CZ.
  9. how often in those 3 months does he use the rifle? If it's only firing 10 or 20 rounds in that time then so long as the barrel is oiled it should be fine. I am like Snap when it comes to cleaning - cleaned every time they go out, and a thorough scrub every 50-100 rounds or so.
  10. No, you mean when you see the whole fox clearly, so you don't shoot something by accident, don't you?
  11. I've got a little 3-9 Bushnell on my 223 at the moment, fine crosshair which helped, but 9x was OK for a 200+ fox the other night, no problems there at all.
  12. no hard and fast 'who is best' - all down to which one your rifle prefers. Although with the price of ammo now, you want to be reloading
  13. Right then, got the 204 today, got some factory ammo as nobody had the dies for it. Just the 60 rounds, 20 with the gun and 40 from another shop. The 20 with the rifle were free, the other 40 rounds cost £60! 1.50 a bang, for 204?!? So I got talking to the guy in the shop, turns out that's cheap. For high quality 308 ammo - £48.99 per box he said. Now that seems absolutely mad to me - is this an exceptionally expensive place or has ammo really gone up this much? I heard a price hike was coming but this is mental! Glad I am reloading now, just need the 204 dies...
  14. Reduction in barrel length will depend on the calibre and powder load, so a tricky one...
  15. Agreed. Ultimately the antis can't moan anyway - if the fox is that messy, didn't last long did he...
  16. It is a good group mate. I will second the point about avoiding free standing shots - if the target is close then maybe, but otherwise I much prefer some kind of support. Be interesting to see how my new 204 shoots...
  17. Wildcat P8 Compact. Good sound reduction, relatively light, over-barrel so you don't get too much more length. I think ASE or A-tec beat them for noise reduction but Wildcat mods are cheaper than either. When buying, remember that there are "Good Dealer Margins" on these, so negotiate hard!
  18. Oh, and for further clarification, in NO WAY do I condone shooting things not on your ticket's conditions. My ENTIRE point was that Vermin generally includes fox and that THEREFORE you could in THEORY shoot fox on a vermin ticket. This is an ambiguous point. I can understand that AirgunBBS needs to be seen to be 100% clear, and that is fine. But it is a FACT that this ambiguity exists.
  19. This is the point people failed to notice on the BBS. I will reiterate it so the blind and stupid, such as yourself, can understand it. The point was made about needing a condition for fox to shoot them with a rimfire. My point was that if you have a straight-up rimfire ticket, which says vermin, then you can't really be prosecuted for shooting a fox, as it is generally considered to be vermin. Now, people argued that this is inherently wrong as various guidance etc says fox is licensed separately. This is a valid point and at no point did I disagree. BUT if you ONLY have a rimfire on your
  20. Coldcock, go find this on AirgunBBS, for once I was with the majority on this one. So long as the moderator is on your ticket, it doesn't actually say which rifle it must be used with, since mods which are down for a certain calibre mostly work on others too.
  21. You might potentially get grumbled at if you have a single rimfire and a mod slot but no mod. However, if you have a moderator of a different calibre - they can't complain unless you are one of the unlucky few who has their moderator's make/model on ticket. Otherwise one unmarked mod can be used on all rifles. It's a daft piece of legislation and another very grey area! In terms of your last post, the first bit is absolutely right, the second is the grey bit!
  22. Got to shoot my 50gr accidental loads at animals yesterday, 3 rabbits and 1 fox, all bullets hit precisely where aimed. Very happy camper, and they worked well too. Perfect shot on Charlie - hit at the base of the right ear, coming from behind (he was facing away, but cocked his head round to check me out - bad plan!) - took the brain out neatly, left the rest. One neat and tidy, but very dead fox. Sadly I left my phone in the car so no picture - I really couldn't be arsed lugging a dead fox 300 yards just to pose for a picture!!
  23. Firkin' 'ell Remmy, that's good shooting mate
  24. He said because he's doing up his house and won't use it much. Tbh, he shoots factory ammo with it at £1.50 each... But the thought had crossed my mind as a pointer to the Howa!
  25. You don't say how far away these foxes are. 223 is good to 300 yards easy, muntjac deer too. I have a CZ 527 and Remington 700 SPS Tactical. I find the SPS too hard to carry about with me, hence the CZ. CZ works a charm, shoots .5 - .75 inch groups with a load of 25.4gr AA2460, 50gr V-max. 3 rabbits and a fox this evening found out the hard way that it works! I really would recommend it - I have the cheap one with the plastic stock, but it's excellent in every way. Well made, lightweight, accurate. Good value for money, you won't go wrong there. Tikka is also good if you can find one c
