  1. Good that you can buy ammo - in mainland UK you're stuffed - no ammo until the ticket is back but you can carry on shooting.
  2. Tell you for free, if they took my FAC for something like that, I'd see them in court PDQ!
  3. No! That's the point. When this occurs it will settle the debate once and for all.
  4. While Leupold-bashing is common these days, as they do appear overpriced, they do offer things that other people don't, in that price range anyway. Your average VX-III, VX-3 now, offers over 90MOA of elevation adjustment; most offer about 50 MOA. The glass, while not S & B quality, is acceptably good - I have a VX-III 6.5-20 and it's excellent at night and not too shabby in low light. Their Varmint hunter ret is very good - fine enough for long range AND good for night work on the lamp. Build quality is good for the price too - they're solid, and backed by a good warranty.
  5. 6.5 is rarer, so easier if you reload - 308 is plentiful, though very expensive as well now. Regarding Swarovski, they're not any better than Schmidt, it's just personal preference!
  6. Ultimately either does the job. Do you reload? If not then 308 is the one to choose. If you do, flip a coin!!
  7. Those scopes are designed for whatever you use them with. Air rifles in this country. For what they are, they're OK. But ultimately they're cheap Chinese rubbish, which in itself is fine - there are plenty of uses for which cheap Chinese rubbish is OK, but I would have said a 243 SPS Varmint is not one of them, personally. It's OK as a stop-gap, but you will be so happy when you've saved up for a decent scope! Bet the rifle will shoot well anyway though, my Remington is excellent.
  8. totally wrong and could drop someone right in the brown stuff. Not at all, get your facts right - neither is right! Keith, I would check it with your FEO, you asked for fox, so likely no problem. BUT In a situation where no separate condition has been added for fox, you are absolutely fine to shoot them on a vermin ticket. I am getting really sick of this debate, but here we go again... There is only one law governing this: Firearms Acts, which state that you must abide by the conditions on your FAC. Foxes can be shot with any weapon you like - air rifles too, if you c
  9. 308 with an 8x56 will do nicely for this job. I would recommend Schmidt for stalking - the low light performance of those scopes beats the snot out of Leupold.
  10. I should think your BSA won't take a 243, the Nighteater might just. I wouldn't ever really scrimp on optics now, seen the light!
  11. IIRC Deker got one for about £10-£20, I'd send him a PM
  12. If I were you, I would aim this question at Meopta, or their UK disty Marchwood (IIRC).
  13. Remington seems expensive, and personally for me Sako is too much money, but if I had it that might change! Ruger is a good enough rifle but make sure you get a Hawkeye not a Mark II, as unless you get the VT variant you need a replacement trigger, they're about 6-8 lb pull and not adjustable - even dealers trying to sell them admit the trigger is shite!
  14. Yes. Good rifles, Yanks love them but spoiled somewhat by high prices in the UK. Garlands are the importer. So long as it is a new rifle with accutrigger it should shoot well.
  15. With the right load, the 243 will outperform the 308 at target shooting. One thing to note though, a deer stalking rifle and a target rifle are pretty different beasts, unless you are prepared to lug your target rifle out in the field.
  16. No, not at all. It's on my 22 Hornet, shooting foxes, rabbits and anything else I can find tbh, it's pretty good on that calibre - I wouldn't want to shoot bunnies at 300 yards with it or anything, but out to the 200 of Hornet, it's great.
  17. I do. it works I prefer the Varmint hunter ret, but got the B & C at a good price and it does the job.
  18. HMR works on fox, but at 150 yards, you want a centrefire. I really can't be arsed with the legalities of foxes and HMR any more, save to say that legally, the Police do NOT decide what is vermin and what isn't. They simply make a decision on that distinction from a LICENSING point of view. I.e. Irrespective of the Police, if you JUST have a vermin ticket and no mention of fox for anything at all, then I do not believe you could be successfully prosecuted for shooting fox with it. If you have fox for some rifles but not rimfire, then you're screwed - the implication is that by its spec
  19. look i asked if anyone knew how to reload the gun if you dont no then shut up ! I have one of these rifles, I could tell you, but I won't.
  20. Yes it's bloody stupid, and it means that I have to work very hard to get the powder (though it can be delivered, delivery cost is high) and bullet heads I need
  21. Oh dear Lord. I hope your uncle has hidden away his keys, I really do. It's rather illegal if not anyway...
  22. Mail order and firearms = NO. Banned in one of Labour's evil firearms amendments IIRC, though it might have been post-Dunblane. Anything which requires production of an FAC must be done in person.
