  1. Not tried them in 22-250 as I don't have one, but RL10X and RL15 worked well in my 204, and good velocities are listed for 22-250 so worth a look.
  2. It is almost exclusively roe. We spotted some fallow the other day, close to a permission. But sadly not on it! Roe are tiny for deer, so they fall over easily with most stuff. The 223 will work happily so with a 243 any bullet does the job really. Since the light stuff is messy, it's neck or head shot since otherwise you lose most of the deer. I am happy enough to make that shot out to 200 yards or so, so it's easy enough to use the lighter bullets on them.
  3. A rifle scope does NOT mean lots of magnification etc. A 1.5-6 power scope means that you start with 1.5x mag, which is basically normal vision. You have 6 power if you do need a bit of magnification. Get one with a reticle that has a dot rather than a cross as this aids fast target acquisition. Basically, you're looking at scopes which most people will use on a shotgun, but they should work quite well for you as well.
  4. I found with my CZ452 Varmint 16" barrel HMR, that the balance was brilliant, and it was for that reason I bought it. Accuracy is unaffected with a 22LR, so it's really personal preference.
  5. It will depend on the gaps between the lines. Problem is that with mils etc, they only really work at longer distances, but it should be possible to use them roughly at shorter range as well. Not sure if you will get the accuracy of ranging you want though. Let us know what units that scope is using, we may be able help more.
  6. Leave it on there with mentoring, that way you can at least get started!
  7. 22-250 would be fine. But when I knock over a deer with the 243, it's legal
  8. No it won't, just blat them with 22-250 proper ammo. I have a 204, which is definitely quieter than the 22-250, but once moderated not by that much. I was out with Deker the other day, there was a line of bunny rabbits out, I went down the line and knocked over 5 in one string, they weren't really bothered by the noise.
  9. My worry is just that I'm after a rifle for high velocity light loads, and the 5" or so that's missing from the Tikka's barrel Vs a Remington SPS will probably = somewhere in the region of 200-300fps, which is a lot really! I should think it'll work in terms of accuracy without a problem.
  10. Right then... I'm in the market for a new .243, or at least I will be as and when the ticket turns up! Seen a few that I'm not familiar with: Mossberg ATR100 (appears cheap and nasty yet Google says they shoot straight) Browning A-Bolt (always seem nice when I handle them, but never seen one shoot) And there's that old favourite, the Remington 700, which I like as it has a 24" barrel so should get good velocities. in an ideal world I'd get a Tikka this time round, but in true style we only have the short barrel variant now, and in 243, wanting to push 55gr bullets really
  11. Personally, I think you won't go wrong with a 10/22 either, but the CZ is a very good tool, and there are so many around which still do a solid job after 30+ years of use, gotta say something!! And I agree with Deker - for shooting bunnies, if you want fast target acquisition, get a 1.5-6 scope, much better than irons.
  12. You say that, but with the 22 baffles in, I rate it quieter than the Jet Z I have, and it does/did a good job on the .204, too.
  13. Only tried them both on 223, then no difference I could hear.
  14. Yes, 22 magnum is quite happy killing Charlie.
  15. That's good going Very good in fact!
  16. Good going mate Fidgety - I also have both the compact and full size, and the compact is a good deal better.
  17. On here you might hear the odd bad thing said about it, but ignore AirgunBBS, as most bad comments are deleted...
  18. I have the 6-24x56, can't get on with the eye relief. I wouldn't use an MTC for long shots, I don't trust them as I am not a fan of my MTC. Happily sell it for a very good price!
  19. That's good shooting. What scope is that? A Leupold, but which one? Take it you're dialling it in for shots on small targets at that range?
  20. I remember that place Went to uni at Lampeter - still miss ol' Lampyland
  21. 1:12 twist Howa = 55gr maximum I know, I had one and that's what it shot. 62gr FMJ wasn't on the paper at 200y Bisley target. Regarding a deer bullet, a 55gr is more than enough for a roe BUT you need the right bullet. You want a softpoint really as it has more penetration, but still reasonable expansion on a deer-sized animal. If you put a 55gr SP in the heart/lung area from < 200y (ideally < 150y) then Mr Roe will fall over like a stone.
