What are you shooting with it? Do you value nice woodwork etc? -

Scope Preference: Fixed or Variable Magnification
Mr_Logic replied to Sterry's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
It all depends on the job the scope is going to do. For example, if I'm deer stalking then I want the best glass for low light conditions, and the best contrast to see clearly to take a shot. If I have the money for a variable then I will get that, but the cost is a lot more than a lower power fixed mag. If the glass is good (mainly thinking Hungarian Schmidt) then it can be used for other things, e.g. my 8x56 is on my Hornet at the moment and doing a cracking job. If I am shooting rabbits at long range, then I want a high power scope, so the top end of 16-25 is generally on a variable mag -
Which Gun Cabinet Should I buy
Mr_Logic replied to johnnybravo's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Ultimately a gun cabinet is just a necessity, so I would spend as little as possible. It is rare that they need to look nice, most of the time they just need to do a job. You can get some which have more secure features than others, but I work on the basis that the easiest way for a thief to get my guns is to go through my tiny house and find the keys. Therefore extra strength matters not, so I get the cheapest one to comply with licensing. Just make sure you get extra deep if it's rifles you want to store, they really are great. -
I met a guy who said he shoots them with a 223 and FMJ, gets the good penetration. Not shot them myself, but I'd rather be over than under gunned with something like that!

Stainless should give a decent life. The wildcat is the one to get if you're thinking of T8-type though, it's strippable and IIRC some if not all is alloy, not even stainless steel, so should last ages. And of course, if bits do fail, you can replace the bits rather than the whole thing. For a muzzle-mounted model, the ASE Utra stuff is very good.

OK Cool

Good going Looks tidy in the background too - give it time

That's plain wrong I'm afraid, and very inhumane. To do that shot, you need to place a tiny bullet into the brain. Not just the head, but the brain. Now, this is possible, no question. But, on the lamp and potentially with wind as well, you should not be taking this shot. It is a shot for exceptional circumstances only. 100 yards is perfectly OK, but again, you have to have a clean head shot really. HMR does not have penetration or stopping power once it gets a little way out. It's fine on a bunny, but not a fox. I've learned the hard way, and will not take such a shot again. Basic ru

Well, your firearms departments needs a wake-up call, I have an open ticket, so there certainly is such a thing.

It makes me laugh how many people suck up to the FAO's yes sir no sir and hopeing to gain a cert to shoot a couple of rabbits. Then they disagree with the law, spit their dummies out when they do wrong and have their guns taken away! Rules are rules. They are explained to you, so abide by them. If your a fighter after a few stella's, short tempered, a wife or partner that calls the police each time you say "BOO" to each other then id advise you not to apply for any cert. Rules AREN'T rules here, that's the point. Police make this up as they go along, that's fundamentally w

OK, sorry about that. -
Makes me hate Britain - oh yes, you enjoy a hobby, therefore you lose any right to defend yourself, or argue with anyone. It's absolutely, utterly, totally wrong. Every single family I have ever heard of has arguments, and people show aggression and shout at each other. There's no way round that, it comes with living in a house together! Shouting at someone doesn't mean you want to shoot them, or that you're unfit to hold a firearm. Evil fascist state...

Can't speak on the nightvision side of things as I am too poor to afford one, but have you tried a scope-mounted lamp? Beam always points in the right place and much cheaper! For fast handling I would imagine the red-dot style of scope would be ideal, but not much opportunity over here for fast paced stuff!

You can get a Kid trigger kit for the 10/22 which is fantastic - puts Anschutz triggers to shame. It's a whole drop in unit so you just replace the factory one in its entirety - no messing about. It's not cheap, but very good.

You see, I AM telling the truth. But what I am NOT prepared to do is justify myself to a cock such as yourself. As for why I call you names, well, you deserve it, sorry. I tried very hard to be civil and constructive when replying to your post originally, I wasn't having a go. But of course, instead of having a discussion, you start trying to belittle me as you always have. That's why you're a cock. You see! You wanted hard facts, backed up with evidence. There you go. Have a nice day, Coldcock. -
Indeed, I think that was also excellent customer service Can't shout too loud though or you'll get more customers

A tale of good service! I was after a replacement trigger for my Ruger M77, I cannot get it set nicely. Rifle Basix do one but couldn't find one online in the UK. Came across South Yorks Shooting Supplies (rimfiremagic) which lists them at the bottom of one of their web pages. Annoyed after a bad shooting session, I was up late last night finding details and sent an email to the bit on their website at 2 last night. Got an email back from them this morning at about 9.30, and then a phone call later to speak to me about it and then sort out an order. I couldn't answer their call back so

You cannot get a jacketed calibre properly clean with a boresnake, you need too many different things down the bore - that's why patches are good, different solvents are easy to use!

In this day and age, a mentor may well be required, but if you know the right person should be fine. The centrefires are indeed a different league, but the principles are the same. If you have a problem with the mentor and you get told you have to have one, try the FEO with 22 Hornet - it's about halfway, and a lot of forces allow them without a mentor, where they would insist for a 223.

In that situation you definitely call the coppers. In an ideal world, I would simply shoot them and leave them to rot. But sadly, the law doesn't permit such things <sigh>

What gives you the right to ask me so many questions about my life? If you want to believe I've never fired one then fine, that's up to you. Just piss off and leave me in peace. -

Oh f*** off codpiece. Why do I have to justify myself to you? I don't, so I won't. I can answer all your questions; I choose not to because I'm fed up with you. -

No, it was up in the midlands, which is where I grew up. Began with an S, but I can't for the life of me remember it!
