what is the most common scope size?
Mr_Logic replied to showtime 73's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Any talk of a best scope for all situations is utter madness, there is not and cannot be any such thing. Ultimately, the best cover for all situations is to have a scope with huge magnification range, top notch optics and probably target or tactical type turrets. Only problem with that is that they all weigh quite a bit. Even then, do you get glass quality (Zeiss) or adjustment range (Nightforce)? You could go even further and get US Optics, which is more of a blend of the two AFAIK. But is that the best scope for all situations? Nope! They're all huge, why would you need that on a de -
nope bit far for me to travel i had one and it was fine ,my friend has one and his is fine and are not junk.you had a nasty experience that is understandable but there are hundreds of people happy with there's. flaming them doesn't really help anyone Actually it does. I agree you shouldn't continue once you've said your piece, but nobody's done that. I for one like to hear comments on firearms that aren't "it's wonderful because ..." Almost every professional review now is as positive as can be and you have to read between the lines to know when something's crap. Ultimately bad exp

How soon to apply for centrefire variation?

did you not catch Deker's experiences with the exploding Escort? I'd steer clear if I was you. Webley do one although it may be an Escort with a different badge, otherwise there are some slightly more expensive but much better made options. I fired that Escort before it blew, and I'm really glad I spent the extra on my SX3, irrespective of the dead barrel.

300 on a fox. Had some fairly long ones with rabbits too, must have been getting up toward the 300 yard mark again, but not quite there.
-
Yes, am using a .243, and you are not wrong about them being as violent as hell, thanks i did not know they had different BT, will limit them to foxes only from now on. I wouldn't limit them just to foxes, perfectly good on the deer as well, but you need to neck or head shoot, so if you're happy with those shots, you're sorted.
-
I'm assuming you're talking 243? The 95 grain is a different tip than the 70 grain. The 95s expand more slowly and are for deer, the 70s are violent as hell and are for foxes. (coyotes etc as well, in the USA)

The spec is that it should be a separate lockable container conforming to whichever BS it is. Best bet is to get an ammo safe, from a gun cabinet manufacturer, as opposed to just a generic safe. Then if bolted to the right wall, it's fine.

I didn't see the Nikon's backlight function; I'm sure it worked well. I did like that Nikon though, just the Leica's better.

Many people like them, reviews say they shoot straight, so for a rifle on a budget they're pretty good. Personally I would rather spend a bit more on a Howa, which doesn't feel as cheap and nasty.

Anyone read ' Foxing With Lamp @& Rifle' ?
Mr_Logic replied to dave1372's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Agreed, a good read. Certainly, if you're new to it, there's some useful info. -
Right then, I went through this recently too. I can say confidently that the Nikon is better. the only reason I didn't keep the Monarch I got was that the eyebell was slightly too large to get mounted on my CZ due to interference with the bolt. Optically it was very good indeed for the money. Definitely not a Swaro or even a Leupold VX-III, but nowhere near the price either. For foxing, I would recommend over the S & B as the mag and ret at longer ranges will help out. For deer, the S & B would be my choice because it is better optically. Loses out for magnification, and likely

Waiting patiently for someone with the answer to shed some light, as I am also thinking of going that route!

Right then, here is what I found out earlier on while at the Game Fair, and also with experiences of my Bushnell from before. Firstly the Bushnell. That was about £180-odd IIRC. It was OK for ranging to about 200 yards on fox/deer sized objects. Trees were OK to about 450, but anything beyond that was a joke. Optically it was crap too, resembling the cheapest of cheap rifle scopes. For all its sins though, it was a very good little tool, and came in unbelievably handy on numerous occasions. I was very annoyed when I found it smashed in my pocket. Now, at the CLA today I had a good

I presume you simply want to hit targets a f***ing long way away?

Guntuff 8-32x50 Scope Anygood ?
Mr_Logic replied to mike white's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
With scopes, you get what you pay for. Never heard of them so I would avoid like the plague. -
I can't see any problem with that grant at all. Questions are sensible ones - what you plan to shoot, where you'll shoot, backstops etc. Almost all FEO's aren't there to catch you out, just to tick their boxes.
-
Indeed!! (although I think you will probably still get a slap, just the next day you still have a missus )
-
No reason why that shouldn't be granted, assuming the land is of suitable size and all is well with referees etc. How are you with an older relative to give you a firearm and ammo? You cannot buy anything for another year, but I'm sure you know already
-
Indeed! FAC Air up close is gonna work with a headshot, but I wouldn't recommend!

Hi Mr Logic I have just joined the site today and I am aware that this is an old thread but I have a question for you regarding your Titan rifle if that's ok ! I am seriously considering buying one and wanted your opinion on how good they are etc . I have only read the magazines reports etc but really wanted to hear from somebody that uses one. I would be grateful for your opinion. Marick Firstly, welcome! I have sold my Titan, and regret doing so. Swapped to a 204 for a while but that didn't work too well so it went in favour of a shotgun. The Titan was a good rifle

John5, not sure where you've got your info from, but it's very wrong. Held a firearm certificate for 14 years, so most definitely not a novice. If you want to talk shotguns, then yep! I'm a novice. But we're talking rifles, so as a certain fat kid at South Park would say, you will respect my authoritah!

there is no doubt that .44 magnum will upset the fox but by law I think min muzzle velocity is required. For example rifle club that I am member, not allowed to shoot anything over 2100fps, .44 magnum no problem but .17HMR not allowed, gives you rough idea. No. This is rubbish I'm afraid, you can shoot the fox with anything you like. Only restriction is the FAC conditions. Shame this rubbish keeps cropping up, eh Mr. L? The actual killing of a pest/vermin, is legal by any means, as long as there's no cruelty issues. The restrictions on a FAC relate to the use of the gun, not the killin

Cool I'd like to have a hunt some place other than here, would be good fun. Went after non-existent vermin with my brother's Lee Enfield last year, but that doesn't really count

Leupold or Bushnell work pretty well. I had a Bushnell which I broke (oops, that's why I should have used the carry case as well as a pocket!) so I am also in the market. Zeiss do one which got very good reviews as well. Am off to the game fair on Friday to have a butcher's
