  1. No worries mate It's quite possible some ranges have that rule, but they certainly don't at Bisley, which being my local range is the place where I shoot...
  2. The P8 with the right baffles certainly goes to .308. There is no requirement to proof a moderator, it is not considered a firearm or part of firearm by the Proof Acts. The proof houses stamp moderators when they go in attached to rifles. Therefore, a P8 could end up with any calibre stamp on it, just depends on which rifle it was attached to when it was submitted.
  3. Hmmm. I'm not arguing, but I guess I'm lucky with 223 brass anyway - my loads on that have always been at or near max - I will back it down a bit if there are pressure signs, otherwise I load as hot as I can. PPU and FC brass has lasted ages. PPU is a bit tired now, but it's had a fair few reloads. 243 remains to be seen. My 70gr nosler loads are max though, and work well. We shall see how long that brass lasts! Again, PPU so cheap anyway...
  4. Expanding bullets mostly do get entered on ticket now, but I know several dealers who don't enter them. Seems to be a grey area. For my part, my FEO knows that I shoot a lot so I am pretty lucky. Also I get a fair bit of expanding from people who DO enter it. Match/FMJ doesn't need a ticket, so that doesn't go through, so I guess it's tricky to show usage - some kind of record is a good idea there.
  5. Don't follow that post, sure I'm missing something though as it's been a long day!
  6. Open FAC means that particular shooter can use their particular guns where they deem fit, it means diddly squat for anyone else - all clearances must be done by Plod.
  7. 22 Hornet with a 35gr bullet is v-max, shouldn't ricochet as fast and explosive. Much better on fox than HMR, best all round rifle. HMR really isn't a fox tool. Works well if your shot is precise and close, but as the range increases HMR's wounding massively reduces, meaning the odds of a clean kill are low. Much better to annihilate a rabbit than wound a fox, so 223 for the lot if in doubt.
  8. Well thanks for the advice guys, went and had a look, seemed pretty good to me so bought it, and also got the screwcut done at the same time. Had it to Bisley today, once I borrowed a shorter bipod from Deker for the afternoon and got comfy, basically just v-bulls, so shoots nicely My little CZ did pretty well as well, pretty much all in the v-bull with that as well, can't complain!
  9. Well I'm glad that got sorted out! Absolutely mad, I am sure you were very grumpy, it was getting me angry just reading it. in short, who the f**k do these people think they are?!
  10. Right guys I must confess I know sod all about the licensing in Ireland. I'm now curious... so how does it work over there? You need a separate FAC for each gun, and each one is chargeable? That's worse than here if so...
  11. I think that must be case, even in the eyes of the coppers. It would be crazy to say otherwise - you are there supervising it, what about cleaning and leaving solvents to soak?! They even say "Do not let this soak into action" - sometimes you have to leave them for a long period of time to clean out really stubborn copper fouling - surely an element of common sense is required here?!
  12. I shall go and have a look at this one. If I cut it, it would only be an inch as I wouldn't cut down to the flutes, likely leave as-is and enjoy higher velocities anyway. Equally, may still go with something lighter, sounds like it'll be borderline for me. Thanks all.
  13. 10/22 should be shooting about an inch or so, depending on which 10/22, the trigger etc!
  14. I think by the time it's all screw cut it's about 100 more, but again looks worth it, especially when you consider the prices in the US - T3 at $519 and Winchester at $1000, give or take. Coldweld do you carry yours about? How is it for weight and balance?
  15. Well then why not indulge in our country's very good distance selling regs - order one, try it and if it's shite, send it back for a refund within 7 working days
  16. Tbh I find that odd - in 223 and 243 the various polymer tips, vmax & blitzking, make bloody great holes in Charlie...
  17. Dunno about you guys, but irrespective of my FAC, in the case of Mr Logic vs giant pussy cat, pussykins is 'avin' it, end of!
  18. I am mulling getting a Winchester Coyote Light in 243 for long range fox and some target work. Not really had any experience of these, was going to get a Tikka T3 Varmint, but the guy doesn't want to p/ex my Remington SPS Tactical. From what I can find they seem to shoot pretty well and don't weigh much given the fluted barrel, and the stock and recoil pad are the sorts of stuff you get as aftermarket bits for other rifles. But, tad unsure as not really run into Winchester rifles. Thoughts? Cheers muchly
  19. I've got a faulty MTC, adjustments aren't right. Equally it's good glass. Against a Nighteater, probably pretty close but I'd give the edge to MTC. Against Nikko Diamond, I'd have the Nikko.
  20. Not sure what's doing it, but a well placed 243 will stop them I should think.
  21. Good going Snap, great long range foxes
  22. I had one which was badged Nikko Stirling, but looking at them they look pretty similar, likely the same. It was faulty so went back, the Bushnell I had for ages was its replacement. It did range things, but IIRC some issue with batteries/power. The Bushnell was better, and I now view the Bushnell as pretty awful given the Leica. Equally, it's cheap and it does work to a point, so ...
  23. they're not really in the same league as each other...
