  1. just lately must have seen abiout 20 lurcher pups of different breeds with front dew claws still intact but back ones removed, is there any logic answer to this,or are breeders just getting lapse,i always removed them from my pups at afew days old, seen dew claws causing some pain and grief to dogs when working, dont see the point in leaving them on,or is this the new trend.
  2. had a terrible season last year due to mxy and vhd, my permissions were completly without rabbits, dogs didnt get much running, there are a few rabbits starting to creep back now, hoping diseases stay away, but i fear it will be along time before numbers start to come back if ever, but hey the humble rabbit is aborn survivor even if the odds are stacked high against them, hoping for agood breeding summer.
  3. rip krawden, didnt know this lad personally, but perhaps it would be a fitting tribute to him, maybe to donate a cup or a shield in his memory at a lurcher or ferret show of some of his best mates choice, sounded like areally genuine guy, hunt on free in the next world, god only takes the best young, respect,
  4. i dont give a damn how much it costs a day or a year,to keep my 2 dogs, they are not pampered or spoilt but are out and out working dogs, idont smoke or hardly drink these days, the dogs are worth there weight in gold to me and cost doesnt come into it, always try and put abit aside evey week to help out with vet fees bit of extra dog food, not a wealthy man by any standards, would go without myself, to look after my dogs welfare.
  5. run all sorts off different lurchers over a good few years,my own and good mates dogs, when i used to do alot of daytime work always worked beddyxs with whippet or grejyhound in them, now as im getting older and where i live these last few years i have gone back to my first true love in lurchers the deerhoundx greyhound hybrids, not every bodys cup of tea,but this type of lurcher really helped me out when times were hard,so its definetly the deerhoundx for me, closely followed the beddy x, every body has there favourite type of lurcher, but if it suits your life style ,what you hunt, and type o
  6. that dog of yours, is a cracking looking specimen,my ideal type of what a beddyx whippet should look like, bet it will make an excellent dog if you use it for ferreting and general daytime mooching, atb for autumn.
  7. theres some angora ferret kits due any time, advertised on the net,at the moment,at a very reasonable £250 each, better get one ordered now or get trampled in the rush,.
  8. look a strong healthy litter in top condition, well reared and not abad price, worth a look.
  9. must be plenty of lads on here who will you gift you a couple of ferrets, the price of ferrets is madness these days, but saying that the most ive paid when buying in has been a fiver, bred lots over the years,so get kits back free of charge from mates, remember the first stock i bought in 60s from abbot bros in norfolk, 2 pounds each and sent all over the country, good stock and good genuine people to deal with, shake to the boots when i see show bred crap selling at £40plus ,but people always jump on band wagon to make easy money, good working ferrets may be worth that money but not to me.
  10. just feed her as normal, while pregnant, and give her a bit extra food when she has kits, she will be fine.
  11. just my thoughts and experience of running both of these crosses, firstly a lot of colliexs, are thinkers, and work situations out to suit them selfs, alot of lurcher men class this as a cunning clever dog, seen alot that would stalk up to get close to rabbits, and alot that would stand and stare at rabbits till they made amove especially when lamping, not for ME, bedlington xs are more doers if the right type of bedlington is used, they are more up and at em,and game for anything, but alot more head strong, than colliexs, butjust my opinions on them, out of both crosses i would favour the bedlingtonx,i
  12. Still got a few pictures of those original types,...I even bred a similar line for myself.... Unusual looking dogs,...I liked them.... i remember the write up you did in old shooting news.,when you went down to meet mick and his dogs, still got copy at home, along time ago now phil, always spoke your mind and said it like it was.
  13. those dogs, look like the old strain of norfolk lurcher, that mick douglas the fen man, used to breed, looks an intresting cross, how are they bred and what do they work.
  14. any body know if ginger has been laid to rest yet, another real character off the lurcher world gone, rip and hope you and luke, are hunting in the next world, sleep well old boy.
  15. nice strong pup, hope he does you proud mate, atb
  16. to be honest never really got going this season due to lack of rabbits in my area, saying that still had a few, starting to see afew young rabbits hopping about, going to leave them till september, and hope fully will start getting decent nights out again, strange how you can lamp places in the winter no rabbits due to vhd and mxy and then all of a sudden you start to see them making a come back, reckon this season must have been the worst on record for me, after 50yrs of lamping, ferreting and shooting, hope you all had a safe trouble free one,and enjoyed your sport, this is what its all about.atb.
  17. nice looking pup, going to be a big strong lad, dave breeds good stock, whats his parentage, atb.
  18. sorry maximus, but didnt know that they bred deerhoundxs, what sort of money do they charge for them, any body on here using them and how do they fair up work wise, have you seen any run yourself, iknow they were on new members afew mths ago,but first and last heard of them.
  19. have a look on dragon driving, seen a few yard dogs for sale on there off late, seem to sell fairly quickly.
  20. just hope you got a grand to spare before you contact seaton valley deerhounds, probaly got excellent lineage in them, but well out of my price range.
  21. Try dave platts he has some nice 10th generation deerhoundx greyhounds on the go at the moment 300 a pup,or try trevor cookland has good stockso i believe.
  22. forestry work was one of the fist jobs for me as a school leaver, started out in the nurseries thinning young saplings outand looking after the glens, moved on to dragging timber out with the horses really enjoyed that but hard and heavy work for a youngster, ended up in a saw mill on circular saw, really boring job,so i jacked after 7yrs,all these jobs had no formal training and health and safety was unheard off,but it was a good healthy life style.
  23. pretty sure it was lemmy from motorhead, that used to call ozzie the iron man, because off his wild rock n roll life style, both class acts.
  24. no doubt if you tried to get a patt from one one of these rescue centres, first thing they would ask are yougoing to work it, which is usually a big no no,they usually like them to go to a nice elderly couple and never get achance of doing what they love to do,what a sad lifeand existence, for such game dogs.
