  1. Is anyone working the above cross?
  2. Went rabbit shooting last night with the .22 (sub-sonics), when i missed, which happened too frequently I heard a high number of ricochets, thankful i was shooting into the base of the Downs, but it is still rather un-nerving to hear the wiz. The majority of the ground I shot on was stubble with the odd bit of cultivated land, not particularly stoney, but quite dry. Does anyone else have a similar problem and what if anything can be done about it? Is there much energy left in the bullet once it has ricocheted. Many thanks.
  3. Thank you guys for your advise, much appreciated.
  4. Never cleaned my 243 having just read another thread i feel its time i did, what do i need and what do i do? Sorry for the obvious questions but have never used copper solvents etc. Thanks
  5. Thank you, i did not know that.
  6. Just been stalking and shot my first Roe doe with them, dropped on the spot at 140yrds, very happy with them.
  7. Just zeroed my rifle with the Geco 105g in .243 and was really pleased with the way they shot through my blaser r93, 1" group at 100m, very happy, as was worried my rifle may not be able to stabalize the heavy bullets. Can not wait to go stalking. Happy hunting.
  8. Thank you, i did not know that.
  9. Not sure of my barrel twist, rifle is a Blaser R93, they only make one bullet weight so the guy in the shop said.
  10. Have just been to my gun shop to buy some more .243 rounds and he quoted me the price for my usual 95g BT Federals and i nearly fell over, he said that he had some Geco SP 105g in .243 for nearly half the price of the Federals and that they we a good round. Has anyone shot them and what did they think, want them for deer and the odd fox. Thanks.
  11. Thank you for the advice, will start with the yearling does and then leave the kids and does until later in the season.
  12. With the 1st quickly approaching, I have got together my doe cull numbers for the season ahead and am ready to start. I have had two fellow stalkers say that I start my cull too soon, and should only shoot single does up until Christmas and then start on the does with kids after that. I would be interested in your views. Thanks.
  13. I agree, sounds a great idea.
  14. Thanks for your support, my brother has spoken to everyone he knows in the area who keeps dogs and the jungle drums have started, lets hope.
  15. Friend had four dogs stolen last night, from the East Grinstead area in Sussex. 1) 2yo Lurcher, broken coated and dark brindle, about 24" a very kind bitch, Lurcher x lurcher looks like she has some Deerhound in her. 2) 2yo Whippet dog, black bodied with a large white stripe running down his face and a large white chest, about 22" strong type. 3) 3yo Patterdale/Fell type, broken coated black bitch with a white chest, 13". 4) 3yo Patterdale "nuttal type", smooth coated black bitch, strong type bully head, 13". I am sorry i do not have any photo's of them, if anyone can help pm
  16. I have been out five times since the first of August, on every occasion I have stalked at least two or three does with the anticipation of finding a buck with them, but all to no avail! I have not even seen a mature buck on my ground, though I did bump into a yearling buck in some game cover which I did manage to shoot (he must have been very unlucky). I have read some of your threads about what a great rut they have had, has anyone else had no luck like me? Happy hunting and good luck.
  17. Well done Foxhunter, what rifle are you shooting?
  18. Have not tried calling yet, have just bought a call so will try on next outing.
  19. Thanks John, spoke to a friend today who stalks on Salisbury plain, he said that he has not seen much in the way of the rut, and all the guys in the army who stalk the plain have also said the same thing, i will be out later in the week and so will see what happens then.
  20. I have read several threads on here saying how they have seen bucks chasing and have called bucks in, i have been out twice in the last five days, once in Wiltshire and last night in Hampshire, in Wilts i stalked three does two had kids one was alone and settled and waited expecting a buck to appear, but on all three nothing. I did the same last night, stalked three different does and waited for around 20 mins on each animal, but again saw no sign of a buck with any of them, am i doing something wrong? Or just being unlucky, or has the rut not started in some places? On both occasions i have s
  21. Yes, am using a .243, and you are not wrong about them being as violent as hell, thanks i did not know they had different BT, will limit them to foxes only from now on.
  22. Have just changed over to some 70g Federal BT, for the summer usually shoot the 95g Federal BT but thought I would be shooting more foxes and thought I would try a change, whilst out and about I have shot two Muntjac with them and have found both to have massive carcass damage. Admittedly one was shot a little far forward and caught a shoulder but the other went straight through the top of the heart and lungs but still caused massive haemorrhaging, does anyone else use these, and do they have the same problem? Thanks and happy hunting.
  23. Sorry, Have just read the answer to all of my questions in the important topics labelled Buttolo Call.
