  1. I might have your dog here. I picked up a tricolour saluki x lad from Fleet Lane kennels in Queensbury yesterday as his 7 days were up. He's tattooed. If you ring me on 01422 240168 or 07968 268951 we'll see if it's your lad :)

  2. I'd like to say a huge THANK YOUon behalf of Lurcher Link to everyone concerned with these calendars - those who've put in all the hard work making them and those who've parted with their dosh in order to own one, :notworthy: We're full to bursting with dogs atm (I had 19in my house the other week as we just had nowhere else to put them ) and I'm constantly getting phone calls from stray pounds and members of the public who've either found a dog or need to give up their own dog for various reasons. We're entirely self-funded, so rely on donations as well as our adoption fees and a
  3. Actually I was drawn into it by Kay's comments about how annoyed she was with what I'd said. The original point I was making was that Greyhound Gap had not come on here and asked for money which seems to be what everyone is up in arms about - it was someone else repeating a mass email sent to their members. Surely the decision about how to spend their funds lies with the charity itself and their supporters, no matter what other people's opinions may be? As it happens it looks like the pup has overcome the worst of her illness and is now eating again.
  4. Absolutely Tom- they don't but sadly that's what they call themselves and everyone suffers as a result because Joe Public's impression of a working dog owner is someone who treats their dog badly and abandons it when it's no longer needed or is a viable concern Those are the type of "working dog owners" who do laugh at us for picking up the pieces of their mess and spending money on sorting it.Maybe we are mugs, but at the end of the day it's all about finding somewhere for the dogs to spend the rest of their lives in comfort. Sometimes all it takes is some decent food and some tlc, but
  5. Kay - what exactly are you pissed off about? It's a fact that some working dog people will have nowt to do with rescue - I didn't say ALL but it is true that some are like that. It's also true that some so-called working lads aren't even welcome on sites such as THL because of the shite way they treat their dogs, we all know they exist and we could all do without them BUT there are some fantastic people who will go out of their way to help us and I am forever indebted to them Don't be putting words into my mouth, I'm NOT slagging THL off, I have many friends on here. Yes the lasse
  6. I think (having read through all of this) it's important to realise that: a) Lisa of Greyhound Gap did not put this post on THL. someone else copied a mass email she'd sent out to GG members and put it on, obviously thinking it would help raise a couple of quid towards the vet bills. b ) what Lisa has said on Gap is: So no committee members or Trustees of Gap have asked any of THL folk for a donation for Daisy Mae's treatment, it's just a well intentioned person who thought they might like to help a dog in need. Whether Lisa is pro or anti hunting has absolutely no bearing o
  7. http://www.farmersfriend.co.uk/index.cfm?fuseaction=main.dspProductDetail&productId=46 Toggi Wanderer Plus neoprene lined. I walk about 5-10 miles every day in mine and get through a pair a year. But I don't begrudge a penny of their (very reasonable) cost as my feet are toasty warm with just 1 pair of thin socks
  8. If he was dumped - he may have escaped if he's that good a jumper - or been nicked If there IS an owner out there, it'd be nice to at least be able to offer him back, even if he's not wanted any more
  9. I think this is the same dog that we took in from our local stray pound a week or so ago, at the 11th hour - he was going to be pts but we squeezed him in : http://www.lurcherlink.org/llink/forum/viewtopic.php?t=54145 He's been vaccinated and neutered now and is up for rehoming. Robbo do you remember where he went? LL
  10. If anyone is ever in the situation that they can't keep their dogs and can't find anyone else to take them on, PLEASE contact me. We can almost always find old or disabled working dogs somewhere to end their days in front of a cozy fire with the odd run out. LL www.lurcherlink.org
  11. This is one of our rescue dogs who did a runner on reaching her foster home. She won't know the area at all and is extremely skittish LSB 2977/10/M : Lurcher - Greyhound x Whippet - bitch (neutered) Smooth coated Fawn grizzle Darker stripe along back, white on head, cheat and feet Microchipped Name is "Lucky" Went missing from: Platt Bridge, Wigan, Lancs on 13/10/09 Circumstance of loss: This dog has only just come into rescue, was at her carer's house and jumped a 6ft fence. Apparently she's escaped from boarding kennels previously and was on the run for 2 days. Additional
  12. Don't s'pose this lad's amongst them is he?: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...t=0&start=0
  13. I know microchips aren't infallible and do fail, the DWs scanners don't work, pounds just don't scan etc..............which is why all my own dogs have 'chips AND tattoos. We actually have one of our helpers who's trained as a dog tattooist now (yes FOR the dogs, not OF dogs ) and we can offer that service to anyone who adopts one of our dogs or lives around the West Yorks area. There is no sure fire way of stopping a dog being nicked, but at least 'chips and tattoos will help it to get home again
  14. Nope, nowt concrete Jed's owner says: Have found out that a woman going home from work at 10PM one night in Fallin met Jed,a smiley friendly dog,and gave him a piece of chocolate he wandered off.She thinks that was in March. Then at Easter he was stealing rolls from a shop,he was filthy then picked up by someone in a car.The pound is in Fallin but no one notified them.Have an ad going in Daily Record on Thurs. Sat. and Sunday Mail.If anyone is in the area of Fallin,Plean,Cowie,Airth please ask questions. The reward for his safe return has been increased to £500 - please everyone
  15. We (at Lurcher Search) been trying to get something like this for dogs for years - it's the cost that's the problem plus, like hawk telemetry, it won't have a huge range. It'd be nice if someone could invent one like in cop films etc that you can pick up via satellite all over the country and then close in on Mind you, there's these GPRS (?) thingies out now so I s'pose that's a step in the right direction
  16. I believe so, but I'll check He's 'chipped, so theoretically they should notify me if he's been found......but........
  17. Apparently there "may" have been a similar dog in the Cowie area..........if anyone's round that way, please pass the word
  18. Still no news of our lad - it's like he's vanished into thin air 2 options are: He's been nicked He's injured himself and hasn't been found If he's been nicked, PLEASE will folks keep an eye out for him as the game fairs and dog shows are starting up about now. I've got a bit of into which can be printed onto a flyer if anyone fancies taking some out and about with them? MISSING LURCHER DOG Jed is a neutered 6 yr old broken coated white and brindle Lurcher. He is microchipped and was wearing a Lurcher collar and ID tag when he went missing on 23/3/09 from
  19. He's a Deerhound x, not wolfie - not heavy enough
  20. Please can any of you who are up in the Sterling area keep an eye out for "Jed" and also pass the word around for folks to look out for him? He came to us in 2006, very emaciated and suffering with Haemorraghic Enteritis, was on a drip at the vet for four days and nearly died..........consequently his heart's affected and he's not as robust as he looks He won't be much use as a worker and he's castrated anyway, so won't be any use for breeding if someone's nicked him, so they might throw him out.........not necessarily close to home though He's microchipped to Lurcher Link, so hopefully
  21. I've had a male rough coated Lurcher brought to me today who was found wandering in the Halfax (HX2) area. He's been straying for a few days apparently and has some bite wounds around his face which need treatment. He's a big lad & I'd guess he's probably about 3-4 years old. If anyone's missing one, get in touch - 01422 240168 Will add photos when I get them LL
