long time no post , simply because iv been getting better equiped , not made a knife in ages so thought i better get practicing with the new grinder etc . so here is the first iv done with it . all made from files with some forging . the results are pretty good i think ? the big two are heavy duty thick files with a file work spine and belly one with sabre grind , and one with a "live " faulse edge . they are super sharp and will be as good as i can get them before they leave . there all designed to be used /customised etc you could allways do the metiorite pattern on them with some nail

lovely stuff guys , there is a ton of beautiful leather craft on here of late im really enjoying seeing it all ! gin's finger was lost in a terrible ferreting incident 3 years ago , dont ask him about it the post traumatic stress is still a living hell for him ! it took 3 armed responce officers to take that rouge pole cat out !

heat or epoxy on stick tang handle
midnight replied to lurche's topic in Countryside Skills, Craft & DIY
pilot hole . heat the tang burn it in , pull it out apoxy and hammer it in !! all the above ha ha -
similar to that but not the same . i think its thick enough to not worry about the lost weight to much . it was more the point end i was thinking . hey you should do what you feel will be best nobody to blame then ha ha ..

grit is a bit weak . 40 or 60 would be better . the tang can be soft it will do no harm to it . blow torch and a hammer could see that sorted . you could allways water quench it to get some hardness back in there if you felt you needed to . i did draw on a copy of the pic this morning but the computer said no .................... i thick if it was me . i would measure the width from the spine to where the edge begins at the handle end . mark the same distance at the tip and cut the edge back straight , give it a more angular look so loose the round nose and go straight . i wish i could draw

oh yeah that one looks superb !! well done paul there yet better every time ! -
looks good . be nice to see that tang lower , maybe 1" lower at the tip . i think it will improve handling and looks . i think thsat indent has to be there for a reason just got to work out what ? id worry it cre3ated a weak spot but 100 years seem to prove that not to be right !! linisher well needs a belt change or more pressure . it should have eat that rust away ! its a good start tho . all the best , matt

well i like them both . i used to keep reza aseel and i really liked them ,one of my best stags was called "LT" (little twat) he would drum your feet when you went in to the pen to feed let them out or put them away . fight anything ! spend all day looking for ways to get to each other , but when accedents happend , once back in his pen he would tread every hen with a new found musto and hatch rates improved !! great and weird little birds .

ANY USE FREE MAY BE OK FOR KNIFE HANDLES
midnight replied to henarchchar's topic in Countryside Skills, Craft & DIY
i wont get away with using it ? i have to use really expensive stuff from now on mate stuff , like mamoth tusk, coral, stabilised root ball . its not a negative about this wood not at all , just to fetch the money i need from mine the materials have to be expensive , jessus its gonna take some getting used to being all posh !! i reckon it would be usful for inserts on custom stock to this stuff , maple either side of it then splice that as a fore grip etc . -
very nice kev my ebt is gonna look ace in that !!

these are expensive for hammer i know what your thinking , but the only place iv ever seen proper hand mades is american where they sell for $100 and the above mr bush makes them now and then for starting price of £90 + post . im not making much on this if at all , the steel was expensive , they have all been in the forge eating up gas because it takes along time and alot of heat to get them yellow all the way to the core . so gas +steel+time to forge+ aneal+grinding clean + more gas to heat treat+temper+good quality handle+time to fit it all to geather and finaly +post . if i had not done -

thats a bloody nice offer that is . i dont think i would get away with using it on mine . would be a good choice for some of you guys its realy though wood !! -
will the linisher do the same job? i have bought some 60 and flap paddles for the grinder but have 120 400 800 and 1200 and a sanding block also a buffing wheel that im hoping will be ok ,not sure which grit is on the linisher ,might just give it a quick blast and do the rest by hand. Jesus - it's an old billhook. Why all the fuss - if it's sound and the tang's in good nick just make/buy a new handle and ferrule - file any dinks out and take a stone to it for an edge and if you're gonna use it for work maybe a diamond sharpener. Why does it need all the fuss and a mirror finish - it's
