  1. because nothing says i love you like a custom one off hunting knife / cleaver or machete !! lets go with a number system this time for easy identification . #100 machete/chopper, comes in at a whopping 50cm just under 20" long ...17cm or 6 3/4" handle . 33cm or 13" blade 7cm or 3" at its widest point. it has a differentlial temper to the steel which means its hardest on the cutting edge spring temper on all the non cutting parts , i did this so the blade would bend rather than snap if you or someone was abusing the hell out of it !(imagine a very sharp 13" piece of steel just flyi
  2. That's nasty Steve . Looks like it need to be reground and re blacked , if only we knew someone that could do that !!!!
  3. I dunno Steve iv not done the coatings . Just finished handling it and need to surface finnish the steel . Proper bitch to make and just eat up materials like abrasives (at £6 a belt) Good news for those that want cleavers , I just finnish on and it's great (better than any I used when butchering) still BIG amounts of abrasives used ?
  4. iv done alot of work since then . im not sure i can repeat this one , i just dont have the really big machines needed . and the costs is to much for you guys i think ..
  5. Very excited the first "chopper" is heat treated with minimal warp , not enough to piss about trying to get out . Just going to temper it now , it's a beast ! Maybe a pic later
  6. I have proffesional belt sanders , band saws ministers etc . I used to use a black and decker power file and hand finnish
  7. I don't think they have any value . No more than a new mass produced one any way . I'm never that impressed with British ww2 kit ( like the poor sods that depended on them weren't ) have some fun with it I say , clean them up grind them up and get them working . Have you both got pics of them ? I'd like to see them
  8. Try a really mild acid Steve to neutralise the salt or alkaline on the steel . Loads and loads of silicone oil to ??
  9. Iv killed hundreds with clay shells . 28 gram 7's I wouldn't choose them if I had other shells to hands tho . Game bore velocities are a great shell and around £45 a slab . I think clear pigeon are slightly better but more expensive . I think crows are hard to kill past 35 yards, under that anything kills them . Iv killed them happily with 9gram 6's in a 2" shells through a .410 , that's not me being cocky I was as shocked as anyone the first few times . But if your in a gun shop and they have them try the 29gram 6 velocities from gane bore , I think you will like them , me and friend shoo
  10. No need to normalise first, you won't have caused any stress from forging or changing the shape . Chisels are o1 tool steel I think . Get a wood only fire going put them in it , build up the fire so it's good and hot , as it dies down make sure the steel is in the heart of the Fire and let it burn out with the steel in the ash . Next morning they will be annealed (softened) you will be able to cut and file them then , sand paper with a hard backing will cut the steel and let you Polish it . Get your shape , bevels etc .. You could normalise if you wanted to go to town but it's probably no
  11. It's middle left in the group photo wullz . I'm no where'd near it or a PC and camera for another pic . Sorry mr .. The sheath is really nice . I might make another small knife and use the sheath !!
  12. There just blocks bonded on then shaped and polished . Unless your thinking if something else ? It's a long time since I filed any to shape if im honest tho ha ha
  13. Yep easy enough ! Clean ground surfaces no finer that 120 grit . Degrease with solvent , use very very good apoxi and aply a little presure thought curing . Tape pulled tight is enough . If you put to much presure on it the joint is weak from the apoxi being to thin . You could pin it or grind, cut, drill a little convex pocket on the centre piece of both parts which will fill with a thicker layer of apoxi for a better mechanical bond and remain unseen once the work I'd finished . Good luck !!
  14. Thanks , there's bloody loads in there !! Your little order will be with you any day ?
  15. Il order some more steel this week john and go from there ? Until xmas im just going to work 14 hour days7 days a week and hope the Mrs (who just moved in yesterday ) understands ha ha . Iv got a litter due in 5 days to ... Good job in happiest when I'm busy !
  16. Thanks John !!! Iv never made a khukri , a very good customer has asked for one in Damascus but that's a way off ... All that forging worries me ha ha I know the steel will be expensive for one the bits I bought last week and collect Monday cost a fortune each . It's the heat treating on the longer biggy blades that my problem .. But I hope I have that nailed now .
  17. Wullz there's just one carbon antler left . I'm going to be honest it's pretty ugly !!
  18. Thanks BTH , it's funny I think you hit the nail on the head with cost etc . The hunting life community has allways looked after me really well and seem to really like what I make and the process when I show it , flip side to that is we are all working men and women and budgets are tight. I really f****d up with the fieldcrafter (commercially speaking ) the knife is just to good . Never going to break or wear away and pretty much always sharp ! I think I said I lost mine for a few months , found it the other day and not stopped using it since , it's a joy to use and I think the styling is g
  19. I don't have any woodland unfortunately , he whole area is syndicate or commercial shooting . I was lucky to get the tiny permission I have .. I better start my begging farmers agsin and get a little .410 under over to squeeze what little sport there is out of the land . Thanks for the input , I'm finding this interesting to find that the birds really are very localised in there behavior . I have a lot of ash trees here that see small group of pigeons land pretty much all day , maybe a few lofters and a small calibre shotgun would bring a small bag ??
  20. little damascus and the red n black sold to bo88y of this shire
  21. A1 is on hold for someone until this evening . all the best , matt ps i thought the black bladed knife would have long gone i get asked about knives like this all the time ?
  22. thanks dave when there not selling i think the same when they sell i allways think if i can keep selling like this il make a wage this week . just want to graft my arse of and get by in life nothing more. new year i will release the new designs , i decided to hold off until new year and just make custom stuff until then. tailoring for taste is tough , hunting knives on here and outdoors bushcraft else where . i want a couple of "tacticool" ones to on the inventory , new makers logo , busines name you name it . the straighter handled file knife is on hold for someone . and i hope
  23. thanks liam i think you lands way better than mine anyway , much bigger and more woodland . i got a pair of hypaflapas and want ed to try them , seem pretty good . i thibk dead birds are probably better .. there in the beach trees here to but not numbers , just a constant flow of pairs. i might have to get a little .410 and zap them as they come in .
