  1. A bipod on a springer will not improve the accuracy. Springers have a complicated recoil phase. Trying to restrain it will have a detrimental effect on the accuracy.Springers shoot best by allowing the action to float as much as possible using a light hold. Probably the most accurate way to shoot a springer is seated with an FT style over arm hold.
  2. Thanks, Safety not a problem. They just will not allow us to use a 22lr and feel happy if we use the term Air gun. There are no restrictions put on us about how powerfull they are. We take all precautions throughout the area where we dont only clear rabbits but use 22/250 on foxes and Roe deer and .243 on Reds. we are extremely safety concious at all times. Regards Hing. Hi Hing safety was not my issue, it's just as you go passed 40/50ftlb the pellet choice with accuracy drops tp zero and you end up using sized bullet heads and a lot of air per shot. The
  3. Halve your distance and use a 30ftlb rapid with nv, shooting from a static position 40/50yds in front of the warren with the wind in your face. Using an 80/100ftlb air rifle I fear you will be using sized bullet heads to keep the accuracy and therefore safety wise no different to .22lr.
  4. Use both. IF you can shoot a springer well, it will make you an even better shot with a pcp. Use a springer/ram to keep your shooting habits in check.
  5. If you get it screw cut, go for the largest diameter you can to remove as little meat from the barrel as possible. Most good mods can be had in a variety of threads to order, reflex,pes,dm80 to name but three. That's damn good shooting from a factory rifle btw.
  6. I would check your aim points. Shooting down at close range ain't as easy as it seems. As the comet is a springer it has to free recoil to be consistant, so don't rest it on a hard to hard contact.
  7. A T8 Reflex on a .223 makes a hell of a difference noise wise and makes the rifle sweeter to use taking out all the muzzle boom. Moderated rifles on u tube give an indication, but often the microphones used cannot take the intense noise pulse and do not give a true reproduction.
  8. Bryan has hit the nail on the head with spring/gasram power. Don't go for max power, a sweeter shooting rifle will put more in the bag. I had a fac pro elite running at a smooth 22/23ftlb. Mind you with dieseling it leapt to a useless 40ftlb until the piston head started to melt after half a dozen shots.
  9. I prefer the notched models for quicker easier deployment.
  10. Biggest dent would be with nv, but also the dearest outlay. At this time of year you should have 6hrs of daylight to play with in the afternoon/evening to check out the land and take a good few.
  11. I do know of a couple of extreme rapids in .177 running extra heavy ammo Donny, (lionel, atheo) but was trying to keep it more mainstream.
  12. I would say my modded .223 (t8) sounds probably twice as loud as the modded (pes) hmr. A lot depends on the reflected noise off trees and fences.I don't know of any freely available factory subs for a .223 or even if they would work with the twist rate and home downloading would be one for experts only I fear, due to safety probs.
  13. I would suggest you keep the power to around 20ftlb with a .177 springer or ram as it is likely to be more shootable. A rapid may go upto around 24/25ftlb in .177 using 10.5gn pellets and retain accuracy. Bear in mind as you go faster, bore fouling can become an issue around the 1000fps mark or less.
  14. If the sako wood varmint is as nice as the finnfire varmint .22 used to be, then that's what I would go for. I think you have to shoulder as many as poss to get an idea. My cz trigger is still not great even with a kit, though it will group 1/2" at 100yds.
  15. Thanks, There may be something in what you say as I have not seen a mod for my 22/250 for under £ 230 and this lots MK1 is almost half that price. Have a look here. http://www.decoying.co.uk/?page=show-item&item=628
  16. Rapid MK11, BTAS reg, LW tube, 32FTLB with FX's.
  17. About 180 to 200shots from a .177 mk1 with 400ml bottle iirc
  18. Thanks stillair1 but the wife says I can only have two . I don't tell the wife only the feo. My argument would be you can only wear on pair of shoes at a time so why do you have so many. Actually I think I have more rifles than er indoors has shoes, so scrap that one for the mo. Hmr and .223 it is then and a cz .22lr sneaked in at a later date under cover.
  19. The s type rapid is regulated, so there should be little or no power curve. Only variable is due to fill pressure regarding the number of shots available before the rifle comes off the reg. Fill pressure should be around 200bar, safe working pressure for the bottle will be stamped on the bottle. Is it an s type or MK1 you have. MK1's are not regulated as std.
  20. A tricky one, if you are target shooting at 50yds then the .22lr is the one for that, hmr and .223 are wasted at that range, not to mention expensive to run. As I believe you are not allowed mods without major paperwork, then the quietness of a .22lr is negated on rabbits. Yep no option go for all three :thumbs-up:
  21. Without a chrono muzzle energy is difficult to pin down. A long way round would be comparing pellet drop with chairgunner, but still less than ideal. A .177 7.9GN premier would have around 650fps at 40yds with a mv of 800fps. Retained pellet energy and drop will vary considerably with make.
  22. I'd like to see someone drop a rabbit with .22lr at 200yds too apart from a fluke. There should be no difference in reliability between fac and non fac air rifles, especially pcp. I've not had any reliabilty issues with mine.
  23. All depend on the type of land. The main advantage of the rf is upperbody shots are effective thereby giving a larger target. The down side to the .22rf is its propensity to ping off hard ground and travel several hundred yards. Where land is tight an fac air rifle such as a rapid will help you reach out and take 50yd rabbits with ease.
  24. It would not be the first time a farmer has been doing a bit of diy, but keeping quite. You get a feel for these things afer a while, if the recycle time is more than half an hour I would say somebody has been having a pop in your absense as you seem to be doing things right. Might be worth starting earlier in the afternoon say in position by 2.30pm and plenty of patience as Sean said. Probably the best wind conditions would be with the wind blowing from behind the holes and out into the field where the bank and brambles would give shelter for the rabbits and you
