17 hmr zeroing problems
stillair1 replied to garethmarfell1985's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Take the rifle out, zero it, take it home, don't rod it with a brush, just push an alcohol patch through followed by dry patch and then an oiled patch. Put it away after wiping the outside with oil. Next shoot put an alcohol patch through followed by a couple of dry ones to remove any traces of oil and shoot it. Tell us if its on zero. -
Hmr great for range beyond 100yds and at night where range finding goes out the window. The .223 completely different tool to hmr, ammo at 4x the price, ok for head shots only if you want to eat, The long and short of it is they all have a use. Semi auto good for taking pairs, but can be a right pita if you have one that jams regularly.

I have a dm80 over barrel mod on my finnfire.

Basically the .22lr is a sub 100yd gun. Once you go past 100yds the drop gets a real lick on. Supersonnic .22lr rounds may come out a bit quicker, but they also shed ftlb quicker due to often being a lighter weight, Most are less accurate than a sub .22lr. The tool for the job is the hmr if you want to venture past 100yds consistently. in the rimfire world.
-
Fenns are in operation and have been partially sucessful , several have been taken with night vision. They are somewhat nervous to venture for good reason. Just trying to mop up those that are dug in. Poison not an option.

.22lr accuracy - paper punching testing
stillair1 replied to riflehunter583's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
My findings .22lr :-sako p94s 3/8" to 1/2", AMT 1/2";1417 1/2" to 3/4" 5 shot group @50yds. HMR anything between 1/2"-1" at 100yds, often good groups ruined by flyers. Best group with Rapid @100, just under 1", usually 1.5to 2". -
Near impossible to give the best answer as we cannot see the land. All of the above mentioned rifles have their place.

NV monacle with dsa info needed please.
stillair1 replied to 19powell90's topic in Night Vision & Thermal
Those that have used both the merlin and the pulsar addon say the pulsar has the edge, Though both are good for upto .22lr. With the digtal 550 you are limited to either 4.5mag or 7.5 mag with a suplimentary lens.Remember the 550 sites up high on the rifle often requiring adjustment to the stock to get any cheek weld. In the same price bracket is the atn night spirit gen2+ addon. -
Dive bottles need to be tested every couple of years and once out of date will not be filled by any bonafida shop. But it's a small price to pay for safety.
-
Don't forget to look at the new 455 thumbhole varmint version which has the straight barrel tube rather than a tapered barrel of the earlier 452/453 . To be honest there's not much weight difference between the 16 and 20" as the cz hmr is not exactly a heavy rifle. Don't forget a moderator in the set up too.

Hi I use a merlin on a rapid and .22lr I use a set up with reach forward mounts on the day scope which helps to loose the length of the addon, but is still totally usable during the day. http://i646.photobucket.com/albums/uu185/stillair1/IMG_0912.jpg -
Hi if your shooting more than a few rabbits, I would choose the hmr. .222cf ideal for fox, but expensive to run re a pound a pop for ballistic tip rounds against 25p for hmr. Dealer is on the money for cf mod price though I would say around £125 for a good hmr mod such as dm80 or wildcat. Hmr will take crows out 150+ yds, .222cf will turn pigeon into a puff of feathers.

Hi if it's a geniune FT SLR Imperator with the fully adjustable stock and special match trigger, single shot channel, you are looking at good money. If you want to out it for money above I'll get in the car and start driving now. As you say geniune mk1 rapids that have not been mullered are getting rare. I have a two stage mod for one when I find a good example.

Shooting my new 22 rimfire rifle - advice
stillair1 replied to RogerTheCat's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Clean the factory grease out of the barrel and just shoot it. If accuracy ever goes off in the future then clean it again. The shops advice is more applicable to cf not rf, though several eminent peeps dispute that idea as well. Don't use stingers through a tight match chamber as they are a tad longer in the case than normal .22lr. Yours may have a match chamber I don't know. -

New CZ or second hand Sako quad
stillair1 replied to mark a l's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I've just bought my second hmr. First was a cz varmint, latest is a quad varmint. With the try before you buy, you can't go wrong. -
I have a cz and started with the clean it every time with a brush and solvent. Being a slow learner it eventually dawned on me that the groups were warndering around for a box or so before settling down, each time I cleaned it, Now I just give it a push through with an alcohol patch to clear the crude out follwed by a couple of dry ones and an oiled to finish. Remove the oil with an alcohol patch and a couple fo drys and it shoots to poi from a cold barrel now.CZ rough shoots 1/2-3/4" all condotions b

If your used to an annie trigger I suggest the 1417.

Hi the carbine is not the best item to go fac air with. You will only get a few shots and the mv out of these is neither one thing or another. If you want to fac air go for a rapid or another buddy bottle gun where you will get a good shot count and the ability to push out the pellets at a worth while velocity whilst retaining accuracy. Your info is right, with fac air the market is limited s/h so do it once but do it right.
-
i was thinking of that to mate but then i will have no room in my cabnet.i have a fac air rifel,hmr,410 and a semi auto and it a 4 gun cabnet and no room to fit another where it is mate. Simples get a bigger cabinet If your shooting around woodland then there is a lot of reflected noise from a supersonic round. Out in the fields the hmr is much less noisey as the crack disapates without coming back towards the shooter. Cost wise for .22lr an accurate rifle can be picked up cheap as chips. As always horses for courses.
