Totally agree Shes 21" and 27lbs, feet have generally been good with regards to getting knocked up when running on rough ground - She retrives live to hand on rabbits & has now doubled up on everything else ( shot and retrieved ) She has got v.good stamina over a period of time/day - but burns quickly on long runs.
-
Cheers Fatdog I enjoy the racing aswell, only done well in the simulated coursing as shes too small to mix it up in the straights unless theres under21". He dosen't throw bigger pups than himself so hopefully offspring should do well in the simulated coursing.

She will be 4 in October! Her seasons havn't had much pattern - so expecting her to come in after June.

Lure machine almost complete (need a little advise)
Tom Pickering replied to ihatealiens's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Heres a cuple of lures which we use with the dogs.. We use pre ingaged starter motors from the old metero, never use a battery just connect straight on to the car with the leads. Found the best spools are the ones which are used around the wire fences of sheep fields. Good luck with yours Tom -
New Lure just been finished - all new parts.. -Brand new starter motor -The spool is driven via a flexiable coupling - which allows the starter motor to be changed and also prevents less strain on the motor -The spool is also mounted on two self aligning bearings which gives a smooth operation Lure comes with one spinny to produce a 'L' shape run, to keep lure out of dogs harm. Ideal for heavy use or people running racing clubs etc Price for Lure pictured is £250 (12 months mechnical gaurantee - to be discussed) For more details please 'pm' me.

Sparrow Hawk - in the garden
Tom Pickering replied to Tom Pickering's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
My Dad got a book out - It looks as though it is a male bird. The male appears to be brighter in colour and also smaller than the female. The canaries are getting wiser, they tend to fly straight into the shed rather than flapping against the mesh as they used to do. There have been a few incidents... -
This was taken a couple of days back - there are a few sparrowhawks flying via the garden looking for an easy kill but had this one sat on the bird table. The hawk was sat within 3 yards these birds - old picture..

My eldest bitch Willow has had a spot on here shoulder blade for atleast 2-3 months. As the size of the spot increased i took her too the vets to be informed known the wiser. It is pretty much like a 'whitehead spot' - I have been keeping it nice and clean and squezzing all the puss out often. (This does not seem to cause any pain when applying lots of pressure) Over the last couple of weeks there have been 2 more spots appear.. Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated. ATB Tom

Knebworth racing off?
Tom Pickering replied to Fabapocalypse's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Looked in this weeks CMW - it states theres no racing at Knebworth because of it being the showing championships on the sunday, still an open show on the saturday I believe. The following weekend at Cheshire. I thinks its racing all weekend but only qualified dogs on the sunday as this is the racing championship day but not 100% -

-
Just a tip for anyone going... If you park in the Lurchers & Terriers its only £5 for adults and foc for kids .( This is the case for other Lurcherworld shows that I have been too )
-
Dosen't actually say in this weeks Country Mans Weekly about what time the show starts. Just states the classes and that entries are taken from half 8 for the racing

I went last year - thought it may of been bigger as it is a related show to the midlands etc. There were pretty decent stores and displays compared to most though. There should be a few there for the lurchers and terriers as its qualifers.. Think its about £13 - so quite pricey compared to there other bigger shows.

WHIPPET RACING AT BLIDWORH
Tom Pickering replied to samba's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Just what I have read on another site - it was Non peds.. Not a pup, but a bitch won the sumpreme scratch out of Bigland boy. The previous week there was a pup won out of him also. -
Depends on what your after, not a great deal of traders/more of the markety type of stuff. Kelmarsh is on near Kettering tomorrow, thats the same organisers as the midlands, should have abit more stuff there. If your taking your dogs to Thame there is only showing with no racing tomorrow. If you do go to Thame make sure you pay and park in the Lurcher And Terrier enclosure. £5 for adults and under 16's are free

Apparently on some starter motors you can only have the on/off, on the lures we use, theres a relay/?solinoide? switch which works when being pushed. Abit like a larger version of cigrette lighter. ATB Tom

Home made purse nets - simple advice needed
Tom Pickering replied to Tom Pickering's topic in Longnetting
Cheers for that Nobby Brilliant video, makes it look so easy. The instructions I had for an extra £3 were awful Thanks again Tom -
Just got a starter kit to make some Purse Nets. I have been messing around for a hour or so and still no progress. I know that I am putting the string on the neddle incorrectly. The string dosen't flow from the neddle when moving around the mesh to create the net. Is there any links or advice to what I am doing wrong? Think it might be a long night trying to make my first net. Any advice would be much appreciated Tom

Heres a picture of my Dads lure what he made last summer. He used a Metro starter on this one. Still trying to find some basic instructions but haven't had no luck. Hopefully this may give you a basic idea how they work from the picture Tom
-
You can find them on ebay, but try your local scrap yards/ car brokers first. Just asked my dad because hes made a few. He said that the best lures are from non pre engaged starter motors. We used mini metros, early land rovers are ideal. I will post a picture for you tomorrow so you can see what you think, also try and dig some instructions out from another site.
