  1. I have two rescue Lurchers. One of them starts the other off and you can hear them along way off. I bought a citrus collar. Not a cheap one at £68 and he stopped instantly. Only trouble is other one can set it off. Poor sod, but this only happens occassionally.
  2. Was all the time in the end but started off just occasionally. Hope all is fine and just something upsetting him.
  3. My dog started doing this out of the blue at 11 years old. Couldn't believe it. Quite soon realised something must have been up so took him to vets and diagnosed with a bladder tumour. Pushes on their bowels and makes them no longer clean. Hope this isn't your problem but might be worth getting checked.
  4. Looks like a classic ferret attack to me. Usually only eat the head. Live trap with a bit of rabbit covered over will do the trick if it's a ferret.
  5. Had the same problem with trigger pull on my cz, found was causing bigger spread than expected. Changed and was shooting tight patterns at 100 yards. Never clean mine.
  6. Got a 12g Single shot Hushpower. Never got on with it. Too big and clumsy and being a single shot, need to be a better shot than me to make the most of it. Prefer to stick with a moderated .22 or 17 hmr.
  7. mine have petnap heat pads, costs pittance to run as just keeps the dog around normal body temperature
  8. You're lucky the bee's stayed put. I disturbed a swarm of something when shooting rabbits in the wood one year and before I knew it, they were all over me. Should have seen the sight of me legging it across a 20 acre field whilst ripping my camouflage off as they'd got inside. Naked and knackered at the other end of the field covered in stings. Must have been a bizarre sight for nature spotters.
  9. I use front line for kittens on mine.
  10. I keep frontline for kittens for this reason. Where I am, picking up ticks is a common problem. Prevention is better than cure but saying that you can dab the tick with a bit of front line on your finger and more often than not it makes removing them easier.
  11. The factory set trigger on these is real heavy. I found that I became so conscious of it that I stopped thinking about the target and concentrated more on how the trigger was going to pull. Had a big negative effect on grouping. Had the trigger mechanism modified and the results were instant, much tighter patterns.
  12. I have mine in the loft bolted to a brick wall and no problem for the firearms officer. The only question they raise is if access isn't good then they believe you may be inclined not to use every time you take then gun out because of the hassle factor.
  13. Thinking of buying a road legal quad to help with my vermin control but wonder what the law says for transporting firearms. It will be going 3-4 miles on the road before I reach my permission. Cheers
  14. this seems to be quite common and I've certainly suffered. The 17 safety wont go forward if fitted with the 22 bolt. simple quick check.
  15. Thanks to all who replied. I shall indeed be changing vets. I'll discuss the advice with the partner and see what reaction I get. Cheers
  16. I lost my vasectomised hob this year and have two jills in season. I visited the vet to ask about injections having read on here before and was told there is no such thing. She suggested trying to stimulate with a pencil. Was she taking the p... or does thsi work? Does such an injection exist or failing that anyone have a vasectomised hob I could borrow please. I'm near to Colchester in Essex. Thanks
  17. Had a tick infestation on my three ferrets after introducing a host rabbit. At least 20 ticks across the three ferrets. Removed them all quickly by applying spray on 'front line' for kittens and pulled off after 10 mins with fingers. Also stops re-infestation if applied every couple of months.
  18. I lost my beautiful girl saluki to a Lymphoma cancer today and I' absolutely gutted. She was only 4 years old. Went down hill in only three weeks and kindest thing was to put her to sleep. Wondered whether this was common with the breed. Couldn't bear to risk it again. Cheers
  19. Can't beat a suzuki Jimny. Small (1.3 litre) engine so won't cost much to run. Full 4x4 transfer box and really light, so with a decent set of tyres will go even where the big 4x4's can't. Only downside is lack of boot space but if you're travelling alone or even with a companion, just fold the back seats down. Good luck choosing.
  20. Thanks to all for the insight. The question was intended to assist in identifying fox amongst mixed quarry, to spare the time stalking up, not to avoid shooting a man, dog or any other inate object. I think most responses have helped greatly. To those that don't seem to be able to control their emotions in online forums, I do wonder how they're ever granted FAC's.
  21. What's the safest way to identify fox from other quarry at night. The land I shoot over has a high population of fallow and muntjac deer of varying sizes. As a novice, I'm finding myself uncertain. The animals aren't venturing out far from the hedgrerow and are out to about 100 yards. Any suggestions well received. Cheers Simon
  22. Thanks to all who replied. Seems the best options are the rifle and long net. I have both so will see what gives the best return.
  23. Been winter ferreting for a couple of seasons now but have some land that I work that would be much easier to get at the rabbits with the ferrets and shot gun. What's the general view on using ferrets this time of year. Cheers
