Views On Shooting Foxes When Cubs Are About?
SportingShooter replied to slipper's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
With the amount of lambs around here at the moment, I don't really have a choice but to carry on trapping or shooting them. The ground I shoot, I know very well luckily and I have a good knowledge of where any likely dens are if I shoot a fox in a particular area, If they're being used then the local terriermen get their turn. -
Just make sure that the bolt and ammunition are in your pocket and not in the case with the gun. Just to make sure you can't be accused of having a "loaded" rifle in a public place. Loaded has a very wide definition in firearms law, surprise surprise.

Firearms/ Shotgun Advice.....
SportingShooter replied to Dumpling's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
There's no doubt here that the justification for seizing the guns was and is valid and that a decision is due by whoever it may be on whether they believe the OP's friend is still a suitable person to hold a firearm, That wasn't where the debate arose, it came from whether persons were entitled to a shotgun or firearm certificate. If his certificate is revoked, there is still the right of appeal against that decision and that is not just a review decision, that can be made on any evidence whether it was available at the time or subsequently. Not as has been suggested only on new evide -

In which case, could you provide us with the stated cases/case law that you're referring to please, The title of the case/appelant is fine, I'll find it from that. I appreciate you don't want to get into further debate but the above would be helpful -
Firearms/ Shotgun Advice.....

Whatever happens, he will have the right to appeal the Deputy's decision. Can I clarify a few points, was he arrested for assault and then told no further action would be taken? Rather than arrested for a breach of the peace in the first place. I have to disagree with clabedoo on the point that no one is entitled to a Shotgun Certificate or Firearms Certificate. The reasons for one being revoked or not granted must be justifiable, as you seem to suggest it can be for any reason. Equally, if there is no reason for one not to be granted, it cannot be refused no matter what the Chief Co -
If you want to get very technical with your shooting and you have the drop worked out for extended ranges, then you can dial in most shots. I wouldn't want to try and kill many Fox sized animals beyond about 400 yards with mine. Your best bet is to try and find where the drop becomes unmanageable and put some targets at various distances between you and that distance then try shooting them. At 500 yards, most .222 loads will be dropping about 50 inches below a 100 yard zero.

Help Bullet Stuck In Barrel
SportingShooter replied to Burnsy's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The Hornet is suited to the reloader, it's much cheaper shoot than the HMR if you reload and will stand up to the wind no problem. -

Tap it out with a brass cleaning rod Common problem with the HMR. -
Cheque. Card payments haven't reached them yet.

Nitro powder you can buy and keep over the counter, no special qualifications or licenses needed. Black Powder more difficult, needs an explosives certificate because, funnily enough, it's a low explosive.

Experienced Advice Please
SportingShooter replied to TWOTWOTHREE's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
It also depends on your licensing department's approach to such situations. Some but most definitely not all, will issue a S.7 certificate which grants the next of kin or whoever now owns that firearm in the absence of the original owner a temporary authority to possess it either until it can be disposed of or otherwise legally held, Like I say, only some departments will do this. Others would grant you a variation for a 120mm Anti-Aircraft cannon before they'll consider issuing a S.7. In any case, they'll almost always be sympathetic in such situations and providing the new owner -
Doesn't it usually say on the underneath of the action?

Call From The Landlord
SportingShooter replied to shropshire dan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
First centrefire I ever shot was my uncle's .22-250 which was old school, not screw cut or any embellishments, When you fired that thing a) you knew about it b ) the fox definitely knew about it and c) the rest of the county knew as well -

Always a good idea to let the land owners see things first hand -
The conditions that one force employs are not binding on residents of other force areas. If my FAC issued by for instance, North Wales police says that I can shoot Fox with my HMR and AOLQ, then if I travel into Cheshire where they don't grant the HMR for Fox, it would come down to the wording of my FAC, not the local firearms departments' opinion of what is or isn't suitable. So if your FAC says you can shoot it, then crack on.
-
It would make things so much simpler if they just stopped fooling around and listed "Any lawful quarry" next to each firearm, That could be written by any force from Police Scotland to Devon and Cornwall with no ambiguity in between. When it comes down to it, if you have an unrestricted FAC conditioned for field use, why does it matter if you shoot a Rabbit or Fallow with a .308? Hopefully these quarry conditions are on their way out.

Should find everything you need here, http://browning.eu/services/ownermanuel/PDF/semiauto/PHOENIX.pdf Page 12 I think it was.

Nothing to stop you making your own if you're confident enough to do it, Most, if not the majority, of moderators are not sent for proof testing. My ASE has no proof marks. Can't remember if my T8 did. Depending on what it says on your FAC, you could dispose of your old one today and complete your home made one tomorrow and still have been in possession of only one moderator.
-
I've been using an ASE Utra on my .222, does the job just fine. Got mine from Mid Wales shooting centre but they're quite popular, I dare say Lampeter will have a few mods to choose from, If your moderator is listed on your FAC as NVN and no maker then you can just swap it for a new one and the RFD will destroy it, no need for any paperwork.

Which semi-auto? They'll all likely have different fittings. It's usually in the owner's manual which you can find on the manufacturer's website.

Elephant hunting with the HMR at the local zoo then? With permission obviously Now you're being ridiculous. I don't have an HMR. The .22LR just hasn't got the punch for them
