  1. Well i've put Leamo to bed for the night, in fact quite a few nights. Oh how the power corrupts.
  2. Grammar is a much maligned skill these days too Mal
  3. Earth, Better than you having to prove yourself in quoting law, i'd be asking them to supply me with the the Act that has changed the law If they magically come up with one, then I would ask for that in writing. I'd then do some research on whatever they have quoted to see whether it is a load of clap trap. Which undoubtedly it is. Why should you do all the work
  4. I can understand from his original question on the other thread he asked "Would you?" not "Can I?" but all the same, the reasons people gave you both legal and ethical are why it is not done. Its all objective. Shooters won't go outside the law because it governs whether they can continue to participate in shooting or not. They won't risk their FACs. Hence why most of the arguments against it have a legal basis.
  5. Whether they like issuing them or not is not up to them or up for debate Earth. They are legally bound to grant you whatever you ask for providing you have good reason What TVP have told you about shot pistols for dispatch work is a pack of lies. No changes to firearms licensing or the Firearms Acts have recently gone through. The only thing would possibly be a change in the force's policy. Even so, that would not supersede the law.
  6. Yes on both counts, £60 for co-terminous certificates and you do need two referees..
  7. For an accurate head shot you still need to be close. A .22LR will kill a Deer without question in the right place and distance. It has been used as a despatch tool for much larger animals. Neck shooting is fine as long as you're accurate. Depending on what ammunition and rifle I was using, the body shot is very common. The Fox, most of my shots are in the engine room with ballistic tips. No issues.
  8. One hour before sunrise and one hour after sunset
  9. Unless your Firearms Certificate is conditioned to allow you to shoot Deer with a .22LR then its illegal that way. You are likely to injure the Deer with all but a very close shot unless you're a fine marksman which is both unethical, unsporting and probably against animal cruelty/welfare laws. The .22LR does not meet the required standard muzzle energy for Deer set out in the Deer Act, notwithstanding the above two points. Nope.
  10. Nick, I use a T-Bolt and can't say i've had any issues with accuracy with any of the ammunition i've used. I tend to use either Winchester or Remington subs for hunting. How many rounds have you put through it? Mine has had somewhere near 3000 rounds and its accuracy (or my shooting) is improving having been shot in properly. What model/barrel length did you go for? Any moderator on it? Scope rings tight?
  11. I'd say it depends what you want to do with it. Whatever you want to shoot with a S.1 Shotgun needs to be allowed by the relevant condition on your FAC. If it says the shotgun is for Vermin then you can't shoot Pheasants with it etc.
  12. As far as I'm aware Mark, the exemption for using a Shotgun for Deer is there to protect crops, trees and foodstuffs from damage. They are used to great effect where a rifle just isn't suitable such as the orchard mentioned above, row after row of trees just isn't rifle territory really. As to whether the exemption covers someone's plants I don't know. If they were growing crops in their veg garden I would say you are still very technically inside the law. If you have a .270 which is conditioned for Deer and an Open FAC then I can't see the issue, other than noise, with using it
  13. Narberth is a pretty little town. A distinct old market town with a square and independent shops/cafes. As you can see from Mal's posts and pics, there are some lovely places to visit around the coastline. Bosherston lily ponds is another spectacular sight. Several lakes fully of lily pads which is just along the coast from the Tenby/Manorbier area. St. Davids is another place I would go and visit, the coastline out towards a little place called St. Justinian near there is spectacular with the views of the offshore islands.
  14. Is there any reason why he has suggested getting it re-proofed? If gun is in good condition and the barrels not greatly pitted or thin at the muzzles then there isn't really much point unless you just want piece of mind.
  15. I think the OP is getting lots of number/calibres from us all as well as BASC... In that situation, personally, a .22LR is a must have for anyone with a bunny problem. They're just the bread and butter Rabbit round and always will be. I would then ask for a second rifle to deal with the fox, any of the usual Foxing calibres would be fine .222, .223, .22-250 etc I'm in West Wales and the licensing department to be honest is very good. They have the highest ratio of weapons to population in the UK and so have one of the largest licensing departments. As mentioned above somewher

  17. I'd second that Jon, I'd never been that interested in shooting Targets until my time has been restricted as to when I go shooting so that coupled with unpredictable weather means few shooting days, but I can go to shoot targets in any weather indoors. I've just put a variation in now for a few different rifles, gallery mainly just for fun. JMJ - Its worth joining even if only for 12 months to improve your shooting and build your knowledge, plus plinking can be just plain good fun. SS P.S. as Jon said, beware of the geek factor!
  18. I would be thinking along the same lines as the others, Go for an FAC Air and a .22LR with a moderator. There is nothing to say you have to buy an FAC Air if you don't want to, but having the option is always good. As for distance, the .22LR is in capable hands able to reach beyond the 100 yard mark but just under a hundred is its bread and butter territory. The ricochet will always be a problem with sub-sonic .22LR but so long as you know where the livestock is and you shoot away from it you'll minimise any risk. The mentoring conditions that seem to be appearing all over the
  19. I take it the mounts are as tight as can be both on the scope and attached to the rail?
  20. I like my ASE Utra just to add another vote for it. Its short, compact and lighter than my old T8. I seem to remember it was about £200?
  21. I do agree with Martin above... But just to add that there aren't many rifles out there these days that are no good new off the shelf...try a few if you can or at least spend a few hours in a gun shop fondling a few.
  22. A variation is normally used to add to your FAC or change what weapons are currently held on it during its five year term. At renewal, you can add what weapons you like, The variation and fee is used to cover the office costs but seen as the certificate is in anyway for renewal, there is no extra fee incurred providing you have good reason. Plus the renewal fee is only £40 SS
  23. Never had a problem with recoil with a Benelli. The system which it uses to cycle the action is an inertia system so it uses up the recoil from the cartridge rather than gas through the barrel which accounts for a lot of the recoil.
  24. I can't find a reference to any shotgun, make or model, as "Enigma" It does sound more of a model than a makers name, perhaps some further info from its current owner might help
  25. Cheers, yes it's interesting to say the least when you look at the wording in the acts, a lot of us, the police included, fail to notice and understand what is really meant. As you know the legal language is called 'Legalese', it has it's own dictionary, as every word used in a legal framework has a specific meaning. Eg. ''The Chief Constable MAY request referees...'' That tells us that it's a case of policy, not law. A policy that's been implemented nationwide and so we all assume it's a legal requirement. The other problem is the departments themselves are either unclear, or refu
