Licence revoced, how do i get it back?
SportingShooter replied to TOM TERRIER's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
If they were revoked without a conviction then they have been premature IMO. Saying that, I'm assuming you haven't got anything else on your record for them to hold against you? Which police force was it out of curiosity? -

Not so easy. my brother had his taken from him 6 yrs ago when his wife fecked off. she told the police he slapped her 6 yrs previously so they nicked him. he wasnt charged nor cautioned for nothing and has never been arrested for anything nor did he lay a finger on her. he was already a member of BASC which are a total bag of shyte and dont stick to their word. fortunately, i was able to retrieve his shotguns so theyre safe but its not the point. his fao is a bag of shyte too(didnt like me calling him a fat useless coont ). my brother is now spending a fortune on solicitors to get his tic -
Licence revoced, how do i get it back?

As to whether you'll get it back does depend entirely on what it was your were arrested for. I don't quite understand how they revoked your certificates when you haven't been convicted of an offence and they were taken as a precaution. If you were told there would be no further action, then you should have had them back. Ultimately, if you have no other previous you aren't legally exempt from owning firearms its just a case of getting your tickets back. -

I think John's terrain might be a bit much for the Wendy house, the slide would be fun though. Can't recall there being many trees around there John for you to build a hide/tree house in but I may be wrong? This sort of thing looks sturdy with guide wires. -
Some licence advice please

I'd be interested to know what the "aggravated" part of the burglary was. If they had gone with some form of weapons then they are in much deeper than your common burglar who climbs through a window and nicks a TV. I can't see him being charged with attempt murder due to it probably not being pre-meditated to kill them. If he has managed to grab his shotgun relatively quickly with the intention of using it to scare them just by having it but then being confronted by one of them with a weapon, it shows him in a better light to my mind, even if the gun was locked away. "Reasonable

It only needs proof testing if you intend to sell it. I don't believe you need it to be "in proof" to sell it privately but an RFD would commit an offence if he sold you an out of proof gun. For piece of mind, if it is that badly pitted and you wanted to fire it, I would have a competent gunsmith assess it, if needs be work on it, then submit it to the proof house for piece of mind A 9mm is relatively slow and low pressured so the tolerances wouldn't be as tight as say a .410

Bit of a mixed bag of opinion on the subject of what to do with a brand new rifle, the following has always worked for me. I would clean it with a solvent before firing to remove any manufacturing or storage grease in the barrel. I would then fire it once, clean it. Repeat that five times. Fire a three shot group, clean it. Repeat five times. Then clean at 25 shot intervals until you reach around 250 rounds when normal cleaning regimes can apply. Its all about bedding in the rifle, removing the burrs or marks in the barrel from manufacture while not putting too much pressu

Provided you have a Shotgun authorised on your Firearms Certificate, present that when asked to by your Firearms dealer. There is no offence of possessing shotgun cartridges without certificate and the authority to purchase them is under the terms of your FAC. As said, there is no limit to the amount of cartridges you can possess or acquire at any one time like there is for rifle ammunition. At least I've never known that restriction from people I know to have FAC shotguns. I imagine it would different for S.1 ammunition such as slugs where a number for acquire and store would app

Most of the better scopes will be fairly light anyway. Zeiss, Swarovski, Scmidt and Bender etc

Same again. Just spend a considerable part of that budget on a scope, then buy the rifle

Pigeon, I think in answer to your original question, there are three types of ammunition which you'll commonly come across when looking to shoot live targets, particularly vermin. They are; Hollow Points - traditional rounds designed to expand on impact violently. Small indent in the tip of the round. They are very effective on larger animals such as Foxes. Ballistic Tips - these are still hollow point rounds but instead of an exposed cavity in the tip of the round, there is a plastic pointed tip inserted which causes the round to expand and fragment on impact. These are ver

At best, Enquiry Officers often have a basic knowledge of firearms law compared to some of their customers. Realistically it should be the other way around. What exactly does the condition for your rifle state on your FAC? If it says anything like vermin and ground game then there is no issue.

Give it a go Marvin. Only way you're ever going to know Chid, don't tell me, Affray, shouting obscenities whilst waving a blow up doll around your head or something
-
It is entirely dependent on the nature of the last offence and if there have been more offences before that. Some people have drink driving two years ago on their record, which is an offence, but hold an FAC.

Folks, I'm trying to find out a little more about a gun that belongs to a friend of mine. The makers name on it is "W.S." or "W.J Forth" i'd say circa 1920's. I can't find any information on it either in my reference books or browsing web pages. Would anyone be able to check any gun makers books they have to see if there is anything out there about the maker? It is more than likely going to be a Birmingham gun ordered in by a local ironmonger or blacksmith and they've stamped their mark on it, but it would be nice to know. Cheers, SS

duck cartridges ? what size
SportingShooter replied to fox assasin's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
If you are using lead, then a good No.5 is a starting point. Steel or other non-toxic shot I normally go one size bigger -

Ridiculous situation all round, follow the advice above -
Have you dropped Yildiz an email to ask how to remedy it? Failing that, a good gunsmith.

Yes, that is what the gun is designed/proofed for

I've seen one at an auction before Sean, action is quite distinctive. Is it a shooter? Loads of these old 9mm seem to have awful bores.

I think the Yanks had the second biggest team with 530 odd competitors and we had 540 odd and at least one in every category so hopefully we'll be up there on the podium. Fingers crossed. Maybe one of the teams won't like our British weather and not do so well
