Hi mate, just seen your post where abouts in south yorks are you? im in wakefield if you fancy a day with a harris at an early stage which you would more than likley end up with unless you bought a 'second hand one' which if your really keen i would not recomend, you really need to bond with these birds from day one your more than welcome, ruby my female harris is flying to the glove on the creonce and improving every day which you need to see more than a hawk killing for fun. i would rather somebody like you have a day and see what is involved for nothing than going out and buying one only to

Here we have my Cannondale Chase 2 jump/mountain bike. Decent condition, with a few scratches on the fork legs and torn grips. Middle shifter removed which means its running on the first cog but you still have 8 speeds. Bought it new for £800. £175, West Yorkshire...

Hi to all, not posted for a while but can now give an update on 'ruby'our second harris hawk. When we got home from daveys in northumberland all was well she settled well and the following day she ate from the glove no problem, great we thought this is going to be easy, how wrong we were!!!!!! on the monday you could not get near her, very aggresive wings out, footing like crazy the full works... this went on for a week, would not eat and she started to turn her back on us... dad stopped working and spent hours just being with her, taking her for long walks, talking to her etc.. still very ner

hi mark and liam nice looking bird bud. regards pete and luke. Thanks for all your comments lads, i suppose the posts we put on will be very similar to stellas but im sure it will make interesting reading, already we have noticed big differences between Stella and the hawk with no name ( dad says Autumn) hmmmmm anyway we've justed bedded her down for the night, luke ask your dad for a shovel , dad fancys digging a rabbit out of a hole regards Liam.

Yes Mark, drove up Northumberland this morning to pick her up. About 120 miles, we eventualy found it (Dad gets lost going to shop ) Really nice couple, he had already pulled her, put some anklets on and jessed her up. Had a brew then went to look at the parents, never seen a female as big even through he says hes seen bigger birds. Both mum and dad were in superb condition and really good lookers. Back to the garage to bring her out, she screamed a little but it is expected. Put her in the travel box in the back of the truck and set off back down home. Took her out of her box with no problem

Stella hit a small fence hidden in some tall grass while chasing a rabbit thats all i wish to say, after talking things over with dad and a great many tears we have decided not to pack in with the hawks as we have enjoyed it so much, things happen which you have no control over.So what do we do now ? go through the whole training thing again or get a "second hand bird" with a used bird as great as it may sound in the advert you still dont really know what you are getting, any underlying problems ie; is it vocal, does it hate certain things etc.. So we are going down the training a new bird route

Thanks for your replys, my dad gives me a lot of support he's bin involved with shooting/fieldsports from an early age, bin there through the highs and lows from hungerford, lost his slr's, dunblaine, his handguns... but says nothing compared to a human life... then with his running dogs on the fens and the waterloo cup etc.. i dont remember... just keeps' saying them were the days' but when he's had a few pints you can't shut him up then he gets his pictures out when he was stalking in scotland (10 years) it goes on forever. forgot to put this up stellas first pheasant at the weekend.. tha

Took Stella out for a couple of hours this afternoon, bit misty but very humid. Stella as usual wanted to chase anything that moved including a dog fox and a snipe didnt get a result but maybe next time Since last Thursday Stella has been freelofted in her mews, i.e she is no longer teatherd in her living quarters, in the damp, colder conditions this can lead to wingtip odeama the closer to the floor she is. We decided to go look for a decent tree/branch to put in the mews for her to perch on, to get her higher up about 5ft. We eventually found a decent bit of birch tree, i went over a fence

Weathers bin a bit crappy but still bin getting out everyday, stellas got her own little moods and gets a right face on if anything gets away from her.. she's had some really good chases on woodpigeons and is getting fitter everyday, with the dark nights here we're flying her in the dark for when we go lamping nothing seems to bother her ..good job she's got loud bells on so you can here her and get a rough idea where she is, but saying that if she's coming up fast to the glove all you here's a woosh as she lands.can't think what its like to get hit by a flat out harris hawk so we just keep the

Stellas getting better everyday shes flying and responds superbly at 2.1 , her telemetry is the tinyloc r1 digital system its a superb bit of kit we've used it twice when she's got a bit giddy its took us straight to her, the last when two dogs spooked her and she dissapeared over the horizon into dense woodland found her no problem, hunting wise she's bin trying like hell but just missing but not today well done stella.
