  6. Glad to see this topic is still attracting interest and in doing so either putting people off or encouraging them to keep one of these superb birds, i won't say own as we have never felt we owned either stella or ruby .. we sort of get on together !!!. As for the past year it's been for want of a better word "trying" what with one thing and another, at times we thought of placing ruby with someone who could do her justice as we were stuggling to put the hours into her during the flying season, this then reminded me of the question "do i need to fly a bird of prey" well in the short term no..

Thanks for your reply mate, it's been a bit chaotic over the past 8 weeks we had to move house along with all sorts of other stuff, then we got overun with foxes trying to get ruby but dad sorted that with his 'rifle'..... we had to build new living quarters for her etc.... speaking of ruby , she's almost finished her moult about 2 weeks to go and is feather perfect even after all the grief, foxes etc.... her highest weight being just shy of 3Ib, just started to bring her down today which has proper annoyed her so shes venting her anger on a rolled up tea towell , she needs a manacure and new

Forget the freelofting when you get it home, start the bonding/manning straight away... get the bird onto the glove which will result in it hanging upside down, lift it gently back up ... infact read the thread " My first hawk" in the broadwing section thats how we did it and they turned out to be superb birds. regards liam.
  24. He was very lucky to walk away from it, think there was 5 killed over the week this year.
