Digging is an easy game now put on your high tec bleeper put in the dog and dig down to the locator.Before locators we often gave two or three hours trying to locate the dog that does not happen anymore.A lot of stuff that is bred from now would not tolerated(comeing away after two or three hours)(mute dogs)(dogs that could not kill a fox)(dogs that would not stay with badgers)In my opinion most of todays dogs(not all)are not a patch on what was worked before.And very few were breeding for money.

As a rule they were good for nothing only shiting and eating.Sneaky b*****ds with no bottle.They were good for one thing though biteing people especially children. Have a look on that link .. about old Kerry blue terriers ..Respect what you said about dangerous dogs for children .. Well .. my two children came with me When we purchased the kerry pup from breeder's kennel .. Both adult kerry blues parents were very sweet and playfull disposition with my children ... It's very important for us ..

Dug since i was a child with the old timers first box i seen was about twenty years ago.Mute dogs were not tolerated at all.First thing you would ask about a dog whats his bark like.As it was mostly badger digging we done noisey dogs were valued greatly.Golden rules were complete silence at the dig(well almost)or you got a kick in the arse.Keep tied up dogs well away from the dig if they were noisey or some old timer would silence him.It was an art that you learned from been at it all the time and learning from the old heads.Sometimes it could take two to three hours just to locate a sound in

Good stuff should be kept tight thats why it stays good stuff when its in the right hands. Exactly....so only if your in the know do you get a good pup. I have been lucky, being put on to a pup which i had to travel the length of the country for and has done alright now 2 1/2 years down the line, compared to the 2 pups i had previously from the Yellow Paper. I'm sure their are miles better dogs about than the dogs my bitch is out of but it's a foot on the ladder for me, the bitch has given me a standard to improve on with the pup I had sent over from Eire recently. Black an tan always dug out.Dug from under foundations of house with jack hammers after three days nearly dead tried to crawl back in.Dug out after big search and rescue dig in the Wicklow Mountains after five days digging with experienced digging men(let down by debens shit new locator)Dog was dead.Their kind are what is called trusted digging dogs.

Personally i have never found hunt terriers game(In Ireland)They like yappy dogs that will bolt not kill.I once gave them a pup on the understanding he came back if not suited.A year later he was back to hard not suited.We used him for years after.

Got off lightly. I wouldn't be happy to find someone trespassing on my permission. I agree thats jumped up hunt service talk.The chap was doing what every terrier man has done for generations.Go back and tip your forelock and hold your cap in your hand to the hunt masters who look down their noses at you and let them use you.I would rather the company of terrier men like that chap permission or no permission.
