The dogs were bred by the Germans from mostly British dogs, Lakelands and Black and Tans.I don't believe for one minute that they do not cross well with black dogs but they do with Lakelands,a good dog, is a good dog regardless of what breed he is,they are all basically all dogs.I have never seen one of these dogs in the flesh, but they are been used a lot by hunters who have a lot more experience in hunting than we have in Ireland or the British Isles. Most people over this part of the World have dug fox,or hunted them above ground. The hunters of America and the other Country's have such a dive

Funny enough when I was finished educating him he never asked for a donation, don't know why!!!!!!!!!!

Out of curiosity where on earth do you get a good black dog for a fraction of the price find it near impossible to get a well bred pup I have been lucky and never had to buy dogs, but if i wanted one of these German dogs I would not consider 800 to much money. If good black dogs are that plentiful(they are not)why are people looking for working dogs on here all the time? There is a lot more shit black dogs than good ones.If I wanted an outcross i would have no hesitation putting a good Jadg into a line of blacks or Lakeland.

Was feeling a bit seedy today from over indulgence of the liquid kind over the weekend, when I heard a knock on the door. The misses called me out she thought I would be interested in this guys sale pitch(she knows my temperament pretty good)He told me he was collecting money for some dog shelter or other and was I interested.I sounded really interested and asked him do ye work closely with the ISPCA(the misses knows where I am going with this)he proudly told me yes we do we work hand in hand with them.I don't think he will be calling back.

This site is great for a laugh.

How much did that cost you?

I throw them in to pen with ewes that have lambs, that usually works.

To late Neil your street cred is gone, the only wind i heard today was me panting and huffing after two minutes on the shovel.I hope Fatman does not hear about this.
-
Jesus Neil your at it long enough not to be trenching, did you lose the old ways that quick(LOL)You should be able to pinpoint better than that without a FIFTEEN FOOT TRENCH.Just back from a dig(with a locator)and I still used the bar.I think some old timers are showing there age.If you want to tag along someday(and serve your time carrying the gear)I will teach you how to do it again.
-
I can remember geting 20-22 quid for pelts depending on the condition they were in,that was skint and dried,a lot of money back then when work was scarce and time on your hands. Done the same Fatman,no dogs let rag a fox back then.LOL

Myself and my digging partner learned from going out with the old timers when we were kids. When we became young teenagers we knew it all and branched out on our own.We dug the hardest and most difficult places we could find just to boast to the old lads that we dug them.If they told us places were to dangerous thats where we dug(what would they know). We had good success until one sunday morning we let a good dog into a fairy fort in Kilcarey Nenagh(we were told not to go near it)we never heard one sound from that dog again. Two stupid kids who thought they knew it all learned the hard way,and a

This white dog dug everything back in the day.

Did he tell you about the eye in the sky? That old b and t was a half brother to the red pair he had.

Lost this old timer in a SIMPLE hole when the grey box acted up.I brought up an experienced digging gang from Roscrea but no joy.We dug out the whole hill,we even let in a good dog with a b and F and no sign,it is still a mystery to me what happened. He could not have got out over night because I blocked the entrance with bars,he was brought out of retirement just to give him a run in a handy one.I bought the b and f the following week when it was to late.We once dug him out from under the foundations of a house with kangos. He bit loads of people when we asked them to pick him up from a dig LOL

White dogs were digging on this Island a lot longer than black dogs, digging badgers when it was legal to do so and they got the job done in harder conditions, ie no locaters and were to ground a lot longer for obvious reasons. We dug for the trials with white dogs(as did everybody)and we got plenty of stuff for the big day with them. Its a myth that dogs were put in two and three at a time,it was done, just the same as some clowns do it now.In my opinion there are a lot more shit dogs now, because they are not tried for long enough, they are found in five minutes and then dug out,you never hear of
-
A couple of crackers Liam the dogs aren't bad either lol My granny on the left, with her sister, two swingers.
-
Two from my familys digging dogs before I was born, dug badger on a regular basis, needless to say no locator.
-
i also dont miss the kick in the arse from some old timer if you were talking or making noise while they listened.
-
Jesus boys I must be stuck in a time warp,I use the t bar at every dig still LOL.I like to have a listen to whats going on before I break in(just been nosey). If I forgot it I would go home for it,looks like I will have to start doing things the modern way.I also seen plenty of dogs dug out after a number of days that were not stuck.

We dug for yeas with no collars, mute dogs wee useless a good baying was was highly valued. It often took a few hours just to find him, seen the old timers locating with sticks held to the ground, could never master it myself.Digging now is easy(in my opinion)collar up the dog, locate him and dig down. Now a lot of people want to get down quick,so a lot of dogs are not tested like they were before. We dug some big places back then because we were young and wanted to prove we could do it.We lost some dogs but not many considering the amount of heavy digging we were doing. We put a Lakeland to ground in
