I have started to notice more ticks coming home with me lately as the weather has started to warm up, I prefer not to use shampoo very often on any of my dogs so just have a rake through their coats after any forays out and pull the ticks out as I find them

tripe will be fine mate, i like to vary the diet I give my dogs so they probably get tripe once or twice a week along with raw rabbit, chicken wings, lamb breast, beef mince, bones, pilchards, small amounts of heart and liver, mixed veg, bread, rice, eggs. They eat better than me but they look great on it!!

Some good stories there, I suppose its a gamble at the end of the day taking on a dog from a rescue kennel whether it will turn out to be a good worker, I just dont know whether I could afford to take that chance?
-
Just wondering if many people out there have had much success with taking on lurchers from rescue kennels and transforming them into decent working dogs? Regards Ian

terrier developed limp
terrierguy replied to terrierguy's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
had the dog back to the vets lads, they have said its more than likely a partial tear to a ligament around the knee, recommended that I keep exercise to a very minimum for at least 6 - 8 weeks, hopefully it should heal up naturally within a couple months. Failing this surgery will be necessary to correct it. -

yes mate it was rimadyl, it doesnt seem to be affecting him - no pain or complaints from him at all, what is the usual healing time for damage to ligaments? -
Hi all About 2 weeks ago my lakie terrier started limping on his rear leg, cant put his weight on it, no sign of the cause so I took him to a local vet who gave him the once over. The vet didnt really seem to know what was wrong with him so he just said rest him for a while and coupled with the tablets he prescribed and he should be ok within a week or so. 2 weeks later and the problem is still there so I'm thinking the vet isnt really up to much cop. I am starting to think its more serious than I first anticipated due the length of time that has passed with no signs of improvement, I just

Try placing your jacket over the top of the fence mesh so it resembles more of a solid structure and hopefully the dog will jump this. After a few jumps take your jacket away and encourage the dog to jump the mesh. This worked a treat for a friends lurcher. ATB

Are you having a laugh?

Raw all the way for me, turkey, chicken, rabbit, beef, lamb, knuckle bones, the odd pilchard, bit of boiled veg, dogs do magnificently on it, my dogs wont go near commercial feeds

I take the fellas ratting and bushing with the lurchers, keeps them in top condition

nice looking dog mate

I only have 3 dogs so have recently allowed them to sleep in the house due to lack of space outside, after previously been kennelled outside there have been no effects on working ability, if anything I get to enjoy a more social bond with the dogs. On the downside I.ve had to stop feeding tripe as the little feckas stink.

Is this some kind of sick joke? Never heard anything so ridiculous in my life! Most people I know are happy to give away there surplus stock for free, I only ever breed ferrets to replace the working stock for myself and friends. The thought of having to pay those sorts of prices send shivers down my spine!
-
Here is what I find works: 1) Go out on your todd and enjoy running your dogs/working ferrets alone 2) Only arrange to go out with people who you can trust are going to turn up when you arrange something with them. I haven't got the patience to be constantly being let down by others so I give them one chance and one chance only, if they blow it, then thats the last time they will have an invite from me!!

cheers for all the ideas people

Maty j, I have actually been looking at HIbiscrub but it seems quite expensive, worked out at about £7 for 500ml, is that roughly what you payin for it?

HI TERRIERGUY I USE CUT HEAL ON BITES Patterdale123, Where can I obtain cut heal from?
-
Just wondering what products people recommend for cuts and abrasions caused by rat bites/brambles/thorns. After a session out my terriers always come home shredded to pieces especially around the face, ears and front legs. I usually just bathe them in a very diluted disinfectant but thought there might be something better out there for helping the skin to heal better? Cheers

Quality stuff, name and shame the w#nkers, f#ckers shoud be stoned!

give them time to settle in together, most (not all) jills can be caged together without trouble, start to introduce the ferrets for a couple of hours each day under supervision and gradually increase the amount of time they spend together each day. this is provided you have a couple of cages of course

I had the same problem with my s410 it was the sealing ring, was about 2 years ago tho, sent it off to air arms to get it sorted and if i recall correctly cost about 20 quid. Best bet would be to take it to your nearest gunsmith so they can diagnose the problem

Stored the nets away until next season, I am a strictly autumn/winter ferreter. I do it for the sport so see no point in ferreting the young uns and destroying the stock for next year, I will however run the dogs every now and then over the summer to pick up the odd rabbit now and then for the ferrets.
