  1. anyone with a dog as good-looking as that deserves to steal my thunder. lol. thats a fine animal. mines a beddo x but all my pics seem to be too big to upload. i'll try and sort one out i can post coz its doing my head in. thanks everyone 4 the comments, ive not had chance to run her again yet, but will be doing as i thought she was very unlucky on her first couple of runs. trust me, youll know when she catches and theres no danger of me spoiling her coz im v.cautious, hense the reason for this whole post....
  2. looks like im gonna have to rustle up some decent permission for next season, but until then i'm goin on a long mooch i thinks and try my luck
  3. sorry lads, the ferrets went in the first day. when i have kits this year though i will be giving them away or swapping for the odd purse net maybe, so look out for my posts as they are really nice looking ferrets that work well (once they mature a bit). the ones ive kept back should produce an amazng line as ive gone for looks and workability.. watch this space
  4. please dont read this as being cocky because its not meant that way, but ive always been taught that theres no such thing as a 'guaranteed catch'.
  5. cheers lads , sorry didnt reply sooner but ive been working too hard. I AM only picking her out sitters, but as we all know, once they 'get up', it can go either way. She has ran two more since, but that was in the daytime ferreting and both had the same ending- pippa getting right up there arse until they found a gap in the hedge to safety. I know the dangers of running young dogs and this is why i'm doing it properly, i just wanted to hear OTHER peoples views and maybe someone who has had an amazing pot-filler at pippas age.
  6. there was nothing left here anyway, this has been my problem. my permission is quite far away which isn't bad, but bad farming and housing developments have ruined everywhere near me. theres charlies about (somewhere) as theres shit and fir outside every bury and no bunnys left. I've only taken probably 20 myself locally so the problem deffinately isn't me and my efforts. I think it's like alot of places now, just riddled with urban fox and over worked with ferreters. If you know of plenty of places round derby, maybe you could share that informaton with me as i dont fancy poaching golf course
  7. well i live about2 mins away from ashbourne rd, its on the outskirts of my estate, so when i find some REALLY good hunting somewhere near i'll be sure to let you know. Ive got some decent permission on a few farms for bunnys and that, but i'm after some real untouched stone wall roughlands ya know, where the bunnys chase the lamp and the burys are only a 3 inch dig.. MAYBE I'M DREAMING A BIT EH? dovedale has GOT to be like this in places (hasnt it)?
  8. IS ANYONE FAMILIAR WITH HUNTING IN AND AROUND DERBY/DERBYSHIRE? I'M DESPERATE FOR THE KIND OF HUNTING TRIPS THAT I READ ABOUT IN THE COUNTRYMANS WEEKLY.. THE YORKSHIRE DALES , OR THE FENS etc etc WHAT IM ASKING YOU FELLOW HUNTERS, IS... DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE DERBYS DALES / PEAK DISTRICT IS LIKE FOR A DAYS FERRETING OR A NIGHTS LAMPING? IF SO, WHERE WOULD BE A GOOD PLACE TO PARK THE CAR AND SET OFF FROM....MATLOCK... BUXTON? DONT WANNA HEAD OUT THERE WITHOUT KNOWING ITS WORTHWHILE..... PLEASE REPLY IF YOU KNOW THE AREA. I LIVE IN DERBY CITY SO ANY HOTSPOTS TO TRY EVEN NEARER WOULD BE NICE T
  9. f**k all the idiots that would accuse someone of lying about how many digs there dogs had. sorry to hear about ya bitch. youve got f**k all to gain by talking bollocks, so all i can do is hope that one day im in the position to do 90 digs in a year.. Any chance of getting a pup from the same lines or can you point me in the direction of someone who breeds a strong working terrier.. would like a beddo but cant find any good working stock. I have a beddo x lurcher but in need of an earth dog.. any replys or help appreciated.
  10. my bedlington greyhound pointer cross (pippa) ran her first bunny tonight on the lamp and OH MY GOD, i just had to tell someone. She was right on its tail for about 30 secs, turning like an old pro until the bunny took a straight line over a hill and was gone. My dog is only just 8 months but is 23.5 inch to the shoulder. I was wondernig what peoples views are on running young dogs, and what age would usually be a good time to start. Pippa is immature, but ferrets really well and really impressed me tonight. The food and treats when we returned made sure she knows she has done good... WELL DO
