I have to say... what a sorry state of affairs.. Are you saying that just because a dog kills a sheep when you're out coursing reynard, that means that there isn't really decent and rewarding homes out there for lurchers, just because they might only be able to course rabbits on arable farms?? makes me sick that you could play god with an obviously normal dogs life!!! It's people like you that give 'hunters' a bad name as being archaic killers. You wander why m.p's are winning the fight against hunting.. If we don't respect our dogs, how can you respect it's quarry. It's your fault entirely...

I think a few people haven't read my post properly... I WOULD NOT PUT A COWRING ON ANY OF MY DOGS FOR ANY REASON, I JUST WANTED TO HEAR SOME VIEWS AS MORE THAN A HANDFUL OF PEOPLE HAVE SUGGESTED SIMILAR THINGS WITHOUT ME ASKING ADVICE... PLEASE POST YOUR OPINIONS AND ADVICE, AS THIS IS WHAT FORUMS ARE FOR, BUT NO-ONE ELSE ADVISE ME NOT TO MUTILATE MY OWN DOG, AS I NEVER HAD ANY INTENTIONS OF DOING SO... I prefer my dog WITH a tail, and i,m sure a rabbit ain't gonna give her a reason to have it off... My ferrets have a bloody good go at times, but she is perfect as she is, in my opinion.... doe

I wouldn't even consider it mate, i'm just interested to hear what everyone thinks as i've been approached a good few times about it...

two out of two beats two out of ten anyday... It does the dog good to catch more times than they fail... all about waiting for the good rund to give your dog the best chance..

I just want to see everyone elses young lurchers and see what you think of mine... I won't push him too much, but i expect him to have a few bunnys back end of the season.. how much work do you think a saluki X pup should safely cope with???? i've always avoided saluki crosses as they seem to take ages to mature..

I have 3/4 nuttall patterdale 1/4 bull terrier, and she didn't have her tail docked as a pup. She is 17month old now and since i rescued her from an idiot, i've had a good few people, mainly at game fairs, suggest putting a cowring on the tail so it drops off.. I would NEVER do it to a dog of mine, as i know that tails are renowned BAD healers, whatever the injury.. I just want to hear where people stand on the subject and if anyone knows of tails being docked on an adult dog...

i'll ask a couple of my lads when i'm next in derby and if theres owt going i'll contact ya and pick it up.. i've got a strain which has been proven for over 40years, but i only had 3 kits out of him before he died, so i need them to keep the bloodline going.. i will contact you when i breed again, and if you wanted some decent stuff to add to your team, you can come and check mine out.. i'll message you soon..

like most places prob been lamped to death. You get alot of people start early,as lot dont like the (cold).?? Even if you have got permission, dont think there is only you useing it. .Its name of the game today, lurchers are very popular, and so is lamping. just take pot luck (any where) as most do on here and have a luck, i know what you mean mate... i'm off back to derby itself tonight to lamp my permission. i moved up here to have more room for my dogs and more land to hunt on, but i'm having to go back home to find the bunny's, which is costing me some serious diesel... luckily som

Thinking of buying a pup just dont no what breeding to go for?

Before this post gets filled up with the usual idiots falling out, i will give you my advice, if it's worth it.. this is only my opinion. Firstly, there is no SUPER CROSS out there. People who have a good dog (for them), will sing it's praises until morning come- going out with them you will usually pick faults that the owner doesn't see! so listen to no-one about their own dog. BY THE WAY, MINE IS THE BEST IN THE WORLD... HA HA.. I have a beddo grey X saluki grey which is showing good promise at 9 month old. 24" to shoulder, a fine looker if i fancy showing. I would say that for a first dog, -
watched a topic the other day... A bloke bred some decentish looking saluki X pups, was off working away and was giving them away free as he couldn't get rid!!! Proves that it's not just shite people get stuck with and people should take money out of the equasion when breeding for own use and sell the pups WHEN THE BITCH IS IN WHELP OR AFTER YOUVE PICKED YOURS... DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THEY'RE WEANED, AS A FEW WEEKS AFTER WEANING THEY ARE NO LONGER CUTE LITTLE BALLS OF FLUFF (WHICH MOST PEOPLE WANT WHEN BUYING A PUP). Anyway, i'm sure my advice will fall on many deaf ears, but if it saves one litte

I think you assume everyone thinks like you, which they DON'T.. I've been told by MANY experienced and very 'right minded' people over the years where decent hunting can be found, which is why i had plenty of permission and had the pleasure of hunting with some very good people and fine animals. I don't know many people in the area i've moved to, so will rely on those people you referred to as not being right in there mind to point me in the right direction, and best of luck to you and your secret peermission.. good hunting

Please give me some tips about the area lads and lasses as ive looked around for miles and cant find anything, day or night.. im getting desperate now. Also would like any farmers to contact me about starting my jack russell on some rats. cheers all. steve 07526003516

even if the dog kills by accident on a public footpath, if any people are offended, you will definately have your dogs impounded at least for the weeks while your court case is being done.. ive known a few its happened to myself.. can prove costly unless you know the system... good luck

keep them coming people, theres enough 'hancock' lurcheres out there alone to fill 100 pages, so dont be shy people...

liking that saluki collie. real goog looking animmal, im really considering that my dog being 25.5 inch to the shoulder, i would be wise to invest in a nice saluki bith coz im sure they would look tops as my dogs very racey, but muscles on muscles.. likks nice
