  1. If i'm back down my ends, i kill as many as possible and then sort it out. Whoever said that they won't kill more than they need must be joking. If i'm on my permission then it's a pest control job. If ya can't get rid or store them, take them down the field out of the way and attract reynard instead. That's not a waste still in my book. Luckily, i don't have that problem, but i don't set targets on a pest control job... just kill until you've walked the land and sort the bunnys out later... I still freeze them that i feed dogs and ferrets to kill any nastys that might be in or on them..
  2. They're the shortes ears i've ever seen... The bunnys are bigger than that up my way.. The photo quality looks preban though..lol. (1980's)
  3. Baught a staffy pup off a smackhead back in Jan/Feb as he was selling it in the snow at 4.5 weeks .. he asked 120, and i gave him 60.. Didn't want it myself, but it would've died if i didn't take it. Anyway, i fed it, wormed it etc for a few weeks, then when it was strong, i gave it to a friend as a companion. It was out all day, real happy and she had her jabs in july.. got a distraught phhonecall last week, and was told the pup had died of parvovirus Real bad news, as she had a really good life. At least she had a life though, no matter how short, so i'm glad i rescued her.. TO ANYONE WHO
  4. So how come you've got a litter for sale on here at £150.00 ??. HA HA.. THAT'S CLASSIC!!! YOU WALKED INTO THAT ONE!
  5. No matter how well bred a lurcher is, i don't agree with asking 700 for a pup just because it has a good Saluki as a parent? To me, if the dogs were really worth over seven times a 'normal' price, they wouldn't need to be advertised atall, there would be ques of people with a bit of coin wanting one (i.m.o).. How much better can a 700 pound dog be than any other that's been well bred off good working parents? I think most dogs of decent breeding can be trained to a high enough standard, and i think that asking 700 quid will only end up with people with more money than sense buying the dogs, ju
  6. I THINK A FULL BLOODED IRISH WOLFHOUND ...LOL. Seriously though, a well bred beddo whippet greyhound has stood the test of time.. always did the trick for me way back when!
  7. well said fella... i tried getting my point across meself but... bunch o dirtbirds they are.
  8. FECKIN BRILLIANT STORY.. MY DOGS ARE LIKE MY KIDS AND IF ANYONE LOSES A GOODUN, IT MUST HURT LIKE A BITCH.. THE LAST MONTH IN THE COUNTRYMANS I'VE SEEN AN APPEAL ABOUT 'BILLY' THE BULL GREYHOUND THAT'S GONE MISSING... HE'S GOT 'ONE EYE' FOR FECKS SAKE..... FIND HIM PEOPLE AS HIS OWNERS OBVIOUSLY LOVE HIM TO BITS AND NEED HIM BACK.. YA CAN'T MISS A DOG WITH ONE EYE SURELY?? GOOD LUCK TO ANYONE THAT HAS GOT A MISSING DOG..
  9. They might work but how many pay council tax ? Tax or or national insurance ? thats how they can afford thousands of pounds worth of caravans because they dont have to pay out on the bills we do. Sorry all, but it feels like i'm talking to a bunch of warehouse packers here.. Who does put thir tax forms in perfectly legal in April? you are well well behind, and it's embarrassing to read when we have Polish and Eastern European people whe import booze, baccy, etc without paying tax.. earn money off it and send it HOME (out of OUR economy), and live in flats by the twenty??? your twenty yea
  10. I can't go now can I .. it,ll be like blackpool illuminations now you,ve mentioned it..LOL i have been round there last winter had a few runs with the old dogs.. but its a bit too hot around there matey. PM if you know something i don't. and thanks vin If theres bunnys up there it will be dry soon anyway..Has anyone looked into WHY there's no bunnys in the usual spots. If it was mixy, then there would of been sittere all through sep and oct surely. I'm no bunny expert, but i did stumble across something on telly the other night that said "RABBITS HAVE BEEN IN DECLINE
  11. MY LOT. TAN DOG= SALUKI GREYXBEDDO GREY (NL&RC PUPPY CHAMP). BITCH=BEDDO WHIPPET GREY x DEERHOUND GREY. BLACK BITCH= PATTERDALE X BULL. LITLE TAN BITCH= 7/8 J.RUSSEL, 1/8 STAFFY.. ALL GOOD WORKERS!!!
  12. Thought i'd add something. Hunterman, watch out bro if theres thieves about.. BUT, even though they had an Irish accent doesn't make them travellers! I moved to England in 1985 as a kid because of political problems with the provos (IRA). Me and my family know alot of travellers across the country and the majority have caravans and motor homes which are PAYED FOR, and cost over a hundred grand a pop.. How many people on this thread own a home? They might tarmac and blockpave drives etc, but most of them work honestly. A dog is NOTin their interest.. people are years behind... When Maggie Thatc
  13. I moved out of the city centre a few month ago, hoping that being surrounde by countryside meant more quarry to work... I have to travel bacck to the outskirts of the city now to get a run.. same story in alot of places though. Luckily, i've got a pack of dogs that are capable of tking anything available (within reason), but i know how annoying it is having a rabbit dog and no rabbits to run. Seems like a couple of the proper lads are pointing you the right way anyway, so good luck
  14. I agree.. dont roast the pup, even if it takes ages to come back, and TREAT the pup with a titbit when it finally does. The idea is to make returning to you a GOOD thing. Practice recall with titbits everytime for half hour a day, split into two sessions so it doesn't bore the dog. After the pup learns, staert cutting out the treats SLOWLY, until the pup returns EVERYTIME, and only needs a pat on the head.. Training a pup ia never easy, but stick at it and it WILL work. I've rescued ALOT of 8-10 month old pups that people have made a mess of through bad training regimens, and i've sorted all o
  15. I would say the best RABBITING dogs you can get, as long as they are bred from good stock.. Rillington/Granitor/Gutchcommon... all decent beddos, then cross them out to a quality whippet, but small.. (sooty sam are good if ya find a small one), then stud one of the pups to an ex-racing greyhound bitch and you will have a fine rabbiting dog given the right training.. Might sound like alot to go through, but i wouldn't trust many people over dogs.. Otherwise, KNOW YOUR BREEDER AND SEE THE SIRE AND DAM WITH THE PUPS. Also make sure all dogs are proven...
  16. Need a bigger stewpot? Well done lads...
  17. my main racing dog, which is a teriier (very quick) spends about ten mins after every race running at every piece of litter that blows etc, but she calms down after a while and normal order resumes. In the field, she concentrates on the job with the lurchers and isn't ever distracted. I think it depends on how good you are with training and obviously the level of the dogs intelligence. Some people race like their life depends on it, and the dogs look stressed and unhappy... others do it for fun inbetween real work and the dogs love it!!! Just concentrate on training your dogs to the highest st
  18. My mates terrier (lakeland x border) was forced by the last idiot that owned her last year into a fox earth back end of last season.. since then, he hasn't gone down further than his tail, and since i have a bit of experience with dogs, i've been asked for some advice.. He has pheasant, snipe , partridge, and god knows what other birds on his estate. The dog is game as it gets above ground, but i haven't a clue what to tell him to ensure the dog goes to ground? I am sure once it goes down, it will be 'problem solved', but someone MUST have some techniques up therte sleeves to get a dog to gro
  19. MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY.. WOULD BE NICE TO SEE, BUT NO WAY WOULD I DO IT FOR MY OWN PLEASURE... JUST A SHAME THAT SO MANY PEOPLE AT GAME FAIRS CARE SOOOOO MUCH ABOUT A TERRIER STILL HAVING ITS TAIL... IF THEY WERE NATURALLY BORN TO HUNT AND KILL, SURELY 'GOD' OR NATURAL SELECTION WOULD'VE SHORTENED THE TAIL OVER TIME??? CHEERS
  20. this is exactly why i started the post.. cheers for the imput mate... I hope i never have to, but at least i know it shouldn't be a problem if she does damage it somehow
  21. just as you are new to the site or hunting doesn't make your opinion any less valuble than anyone elses..common sense is the main aim.. I'm half way through talking about someone who shot his dog yesterday for killing a sheep???, and i'm sure he's been on the site for ages and i wouldn't value his opinion if my LIFE depended on it.. thanks for your comments..
  22. I still think that MILO, the OLD SKOOL HUTER OF GREAT HUNTERS should ask himself this..WHY ... THE FECK DIDN'T YOU GIVE THE DOG TO SOMEONE WITH ARABLE FIELDS AROUND THEM WHO WOULDN'T OF USED IT FOR HUNTING, AND HAD HER KEPT AS A PET.. IS A GOOD COUNTRY HOME NOT GOOD ENOUGH AS A QUALITY OF LIFE?? YOU AIN'T GOD ALTHOUGH SOME IDIOTS ON HERE SEEM TO BE TREATING YOU LIKE IT. I must be the WORST hunter and countryman EVER if you set the benchmark... You are so set in your ways that you didn't even give anyone a chance to voice their opinions, or thinking time for yourself.. like you would've even b
