  1. hope they do well for you tuffty,I have tried in past with bullies but not done very well,so keep away from them these days, they are a lovly bird though atb.
  2. nice taz, hope the parents behave for you mate
  3. gnasher theres plenty of poor feeders, both canarys and british,it can happen that stronger chicks trample the last hatched into the nest, overpower them if ya like,so the strong get stronger and the smallest weaken and die, some parents pay more attention, and feed the lot to bursting point, one pair I got here will feed any and every chick till they are too full to move, others aint so good that pair was the best 15 quid I ever spent
  4. jonnie,is that bingley as in nr leeds mate, not heard of st ives estate,is it worth a look when around that area,
  5. ha ha hope not makes my pit look tidy I`d move in tomorrow if I could. Lovely bit of waste ground, nature has definitely taken it back. Theres plenty of rabbits on there too. its amazing how quick nature reclaims it bob,and the wildlife adapts to thrive around the crap we produce, nice pics atb.
  6. cheers lads, dont know what happened with the pair that have 2 young, there was3 until they featherd up,then on inspection one morning 1 had died for no apparent reason, looked same size/weight,i checked birds and pans for mite,no sign thankfully, and all the rest are doing fine,i also have some more sitting not on these pics and there eggs are full,so the birds are in decent condition, atb.
  7. long tail tit correct , not a jay but not clear in pic, nest was in bush 3 feet of ground, blackbird mate.
  8. what about these I came across on a walk last week,
  9. its strange how you don't notice how nice it is when your in it daily, its rained heavy today and there was nobody about just me and the dog,and I just enjoyed the local country, took these pics on way back 5 mins from my door and it just made me think,be lucky for what I got
  10. pics on phone todayjust been with dog down fields next to my house, was thinking I am a lucky bxxxxd
  11. couple of easy ones ,both with young on todays walk local, forgot to say taken on my cheap phone hence the poor quality
  12. ha ha hope not makes my pit look tidy
  13. navek, this is how I have made my small outdoor flights, roof and half the sides are plastic sheeted, also theres a small roosting area behind Perspex that the birds fligh around or under to get to out of drafts/wind,they seem ok for wintering the birds,i tried it last winter,or for a breeding pair,
  14. when they jump the nest they will be spread about the floor area,in corners ect the cock bird will continue to feed them, even if your hen has nested again, they are better in breeding cages as reguards pairing a certain bird to another,so you can pick there mate, but for the birds themselves I would think the flight is the best enviroment by far,the young soon get perching and find there way around, keep a few spare nest pans up,she may nest in one
  15. yes mate ,early 60s, my granddad used to take me up the allotments, all the old lads had racers and fantails,it was amazing to us kids
  16. You can never stop local lads from going on your permission and I think its wrong to try,we all start off in our own area,s and without transport as a kid its all we know, I quite often catch kids and lads on my permissions and normally end up letting them help me ferret or get them to meet me on a different day to help out, remember local lads can go when they like where as most have to travel to permission, WM you cant stop kids, and who would want to,,local lads will have walked that land for years so fair enough, its all us keyboard warriors he don't want running all over the spot
  17. think most of us are novices,to be fair its all trial and error with the birds pappabear, ,just that some have had more time to make mistakes and hopefully we learn from some of them, glad you enjoying the birds
  18. this is were my interest started,a few year back now, happy days .that's me pushing the ladys.
  19. some sit almost straight away, but I always count from 4th egg,and let them sit a day or so over ,that way you don't throw good eggs I don't use dummy eggs these days ,and most chicks do ok,just spy in when shes out feeding, dont think the hen will mind,
  20. what a nice location things we do to see a nest
