  1. Different folks have different opinions on whats a fault and failure though fella and ye have to respect alot of folks have different opinions and its good to get different opinions and views my dogs may have what to me are faults but to another man there a failure and vice versa some folks let faults and failures slide and some dont it doenst mean either man is better its simply a post to get folks thoughts and views on the matter and so far there has been some decent posts for a change totally agree with your veiw on fault and failure,at the end of day if a mans happy with his dog and
  2. with reguards to breeding from a dog with faults smicker ,show me a man who has a dog with no faults ,theres always room for improvment in any bodys stock,if there completly honest,i have a bitch here 14 year old ,bred 3 litters from her to keep the stuff going for lads i trust, got a list i could change about her but wish i had 6 like her to dig to when she was younger, dont keep terriers now me and her both out the game
  3. Hedz31 this should be an intresting topic and imo the usual folk think they are dictaters or dog gods probably wont reply! Have i bred from dogs with faults,of course i have, but ive used my outcross dog that is known for the traits im looking to correct,be it brains, nose, steadiness whatever it may be. One of the best dogs ive dug to over 8 hard seasons graft was lifted on more than one occasion after failing to bottle up quarry,i dont mean after an hour it was more 4 hours of constant round and round, the dog showed and was lifted before flying back to ground, that was a failed dig in my opinion
  4. when i kept a few game birds in a built up area i tryed sound proofing shed, keeping the cocks in low boxes at night so the cant raise up to crow easy, and keeping them in black out boxes at night all with limited success, packed up not worth the hassel, best kept out the way ,then the only worry is they might go missing
  5. great pics you two,i was up there you got best of weather cos sunday it was rain, not many in river due to it was bloody cold.they say about 60 thousand visited the fair this year ,think they all parked same field as me
  6. another that seems to keep mite at bay is harkers spot on used it on pigeons it keeps em clean of most mites ect,for washing cages, jeyes fluid or duramitex diluted if its still available, agree with meroman about burning perches,a good clean and paint or blow torch cages sometimes get rid of mite but not always there hard little sods to kill off
  7. traps ect can be used to catch up birds in there flights, birdroom, with no disruption to the birds, that might be why some folk have em .
  8. all young lads had finches back then, also all had birds egg collections, and most had a kestrel called kes,but like stated there was more birds around in some areas makes you think banning somethings dont always work for the better, young lads learn from the old bird limers, netters,it was a better pastime than some persue these days.
  9. moll regarding the mites ,one year a bought in some birds +red mites came free, found that in day they clustered under nest felts feeding from birds at night, cleaned and sprayed were poss, taped holes up under nest pans, put vim powder in nest pans replaced the nests makeing sure birds could not get at powder, soon cleared the mites they didnt like the old vim mice moll will spoil eggs, chicks, good luck.
  10. to keep takeing the fight to the opponent when over matched, and all looks lost, thats game be it dog, bird,or man or plain stupid
  11. as said a few days, thats the buzz when you go in and see the first eggs in that nest pan, its true i am a sad old git ,i should get out more realy good luck with em
  12. nice to see em kept right ,nice clean looking birds

  14. ,the yearling birds we have at present have flown 14 hours but are not dark trained ect.they are good enough for us ,they are from a good strain from ireland
  15. think your right rocky the young pair were flying out but not right, they have now gone,i got him some diff birds ntu rung from a good bloke these have now bred so hes sorted,i am no expert but hes happy with what hes got now,i also keep a few tumblers white feather legs
  16. are they def pair mate,is it poss they two hens ?
  17. i was told goldies are bad for it if left with hen when muleing ,i had no probs but i never caught goldie treading or near nest
  18. fireman have you had probs in past with goldie cock breaking eggs when hes left in with hen.
  19. like you i have left em to it,but more are lost if the eggs dont go under the hen on the same day due to size diff in chicks when hatched ,so dummy eggs is the best way imo. I never had a problem matey, but my canarys were good feeders. raised many a fully clutch of five with no problems. In fact, i will go as far as to say it was rare to loose a chick... same here jd,ive got 3 clutches of 4 just ready to leave the nest and all ive done is feed and water em ok lads lets just agree to disagree, didnt see that one coming a tag team Just said it as I saw it Francolin.... 21. if you dont remove eggs as laid and put dummy eggs in ,then re set all eggs on fourth day chances are some will hatch befor others, they do start to turn inside, but messing with eggs aint always easy when not breeding in cages,
