  3. no problem mule, glad you got sorted, hope you have a good season, mlne seem to be doing ok at the mo,but we know that can change like the weather atb,
  4. they can sing well enough pete, the competition rollers are judged on there song but some of there notes ,toures, are quiet so much so that they are hard to hear singing from say outside a shed, but there range of notes is incredible, not like the loud harsher song of say a border canary, hope that makes sence,I aint the best on comp, short answer irish have a nice song and breed freely atb
  5. pete I did keep roller canarys at one point,my birds were from a man who judged them in the singing contests so were half decent singers, but the contest rollers are put on earth to do a mans head in ,its quiet complex ,for my brain at least ,I keep only irish fancys which I suspect are bred down from roller type, but I am no expert, some of the irish lads might no more about the breeding atb.
  6. just plain old yellows for me pete.got 9 young to go in small outdoor flight ,just got that project finished, going to keep m in there all year round see how they winter in it ,sort of test it ,in the cages I have 3 more nests ,2 with chicks 1 with 6 eggs,so all going ok at the mo, atb.
  7. mite can be hard to spot ,look under nest felts for small spots and rub ya thumb over em they will squash redish colour,if you got mite as said they soon weaken chicks good luck
  8. Meroman you bet me to it ,years ago I had natives and glosters, tried some bullys under a canary hen and they seemed scared /reluctant to feed the chicks, thought the same they didn't like size or colour of gape, never tried it again , don't keep british these days but might relapse next season and get a couple of pair :Datb.
  9. mule a old fella sold them to me a few year back when he sold up so cant help sorry mate, but they are handy ,and its good how the birds can get right to bottom if theres not much seed in,will try find out from his relative atb.
  10. fireman shes not just ready for another pan but will soon have one in there, the other pair with 6 only hatched 3 ,4th didn't hatch right and 2 eggs were clear, but the 3 chicks are growin well,so that's good enough ,the other pair that would not stop building have 4 eggs at mo and the hen started sitting today, but I did remove most of nest material.atb
  11. nest is full to bursting point at mo ,they do venture out but return for a rest
  12. tried tape to cover rings and bird shit but best just keep checking and putting rings back on,and chicks back in nest after blowing on em to warm them up
  13. :thumbs:cheers, had a few nice days out with mink hounds, very steady pace
  14. been with northern countys a few times, are they still going or have they packed up.
  15. lads apart from the obvious swelling of the body and nipples you might notice hair thining on belly area, dont increase food too much, just keep em well fed not over fed they will be fine,as for not looking at the kits for a few weeks,BET YOU DO
  16. cheers j ,that sounds like a real set up you had there .
  17. remember now why I stopped keeping the british, all this ringing carry on ,
  18. what were they housed with ,J or are they kept in flights of there own, like these a lot atb.
  19. don't know about that fireman,i do no a lad who showed game fowl to a high standard, and keeps cage birds ,his stock are exeptionaly clean and looked after and he sufferd the mites a few seasons back so goes to show they can thrive in any conditions not just dirty set ups, hope I never see them again.atb
  20. great stuff Spartan, and glad to see you lads bonding
  21. not had probs for a long time ,but had some once when I bought some cages in, they looked spotless but must have had the mites ,as said they can live in the shed/under roof felt ect. take some getting rid,i removed the cages and cleaned with smite the mite, nearly every day for a good while, only put birds back in year after not had none since ,best spot to find em is under nest felts if there present, also scrub with old type vim,but don't know if its still available, best to check close new birds/ equipment when buying in atb.
  22. bunnys how often does the sand need changing with say 12 birds in a 8 x4 flight , thinking of making something back end of summer, might put young irish in it,
  23. that goes without saying RAW ,they were created down in south wales, no bull was added to whippet blood by any thick Yorkshire men in the seventies, when we kept racers and rabbiters. :whistling:atb.
