  1. its 12mm for the top and bottom rail that holds the fronts in place, the rest of the cage is made from 15mm,the same stuff used for the carcass of kitchen units, fairly easy to wipe clean
  2. very nice pic, cant beat seeing both parents feeding, much better than letting hens rear alone ,all though they can with no bother, just a thought has anybody seen a canary cock help with incubation,i never have, well not what I can remember these days :laugh:atb.
  3. dogger the bottom rail is 70mm mate, looks deep but they can take seed right from bottom of pots when they are low, and the deeper rail helps keep shaveings in
  4. millet all this stress aint good
  5. millet you are spot on mate,to be fair I would have stopped them sooner but I was down to 3 adult pair, and a mate asked me for any spare young,so I wanted to breed a good few this year,2 clutches is plenty for any pair, but mine are on 3rd round ,so that's it for this season.
  6. any chance is better than no chance millet, but if they look like going down hill you might have to take jd advice, good luck with em,
  7. very easy to clean fireman, with the birds one side of partition the whole front is off and 2 mins jobs done, only got doubles these days wish I had room for trebles ect,but its not poss, but finding the small outdoor flight handy.

  11. the old egg machine is on again, just started to sit,7 eggs, the pans are defo out after this round, got plenty for what I need, these pairings seem to have done a real job this year, all have been decent parents ect, will get a few pics when kids come over :thumbs:atb.
  12. :laugh:millet I know what your saying ,I just read it again and confused myself, christ, I could tell the tail how it was told to me,but cant write it down, sorry I aint very literate, thats why some spelling is crap also
  13. close shave that millet :laugh:people don't grasp what its like this time of year ,all this drama, dont know if I can take much more,i had a check this morning ones on another 6 eggs, going like a machine, the pans are defo coming out after this nest, cant move for irish fancys :toast:atb,
  14. that is a very smart job mule, cant start to think how many hours it took ,well done mate, and it would get some interest at the horse fairs
  15. not sure about the mice, only what a mate told me,he had a mouse prob and it spoilt his nesting with night fright, upsetting the birds, and he said the tails looked liked they had feather mite or were chewed but they went like that over night, and some were chewed some not,got shut of the mice rodent proof bird hut no bad tail feathers since, do the hens look fluffed out of condition atb.
  16. glad to see you are doing ok, nice to get a few on the perches, that sun fireman is avoiding us at the mo,,that's the down side of the pennines ,when its nice its to die for on the moors and around the resevoirs, but it can rain year round,i might do better keeping call ducks
  17. nice work, you must have too much spare time
  18. i will give the wire a coat of paint fireman at some point, just got carried away and rushed to get it done to be honest, mule that stuff is strong gear i got the grinder on it mate, going to leave the young birds in as a group to see how they cope outdoors, but has crossed my mind to keep it for a pair of natives, will have to see how things go.
  19. forgot to add its 6foot x 6foot x3 foot wide,flag floor .atb
  20. pic of the small flight, made it to fill a space between two sheds, part coverd with Perspex that can be removed when weather permits, got some young irish in to test it out,but thinking its only big enough for a pair or two.
  21. they are handy if first round chicks are still in and trying to sit in a nest when second clutch is started,to stop any damage, then put chicks in new cage when eggs are set,or put wire divider inbetween chicks and sitting hen,but natural is best when poss.
  22. they should be in condition now, mine are trying to go for third nest, and I have no lights exept natural day light, are they caged in separate pairs or lots together mate.
  23. are you using nest felts, check under them for mites, also do the end of tail feathers look short/ nibbled it sounds daft but mice do have a go at the tail feather when roosting if they are through the bars, atb.
  24. I know mule, put a load of young irish out in a small flight, then we got this lot,but they seem to be doing ok, atb
