  9. tatsblisters your post takes me back, we hunted the pits as youngsters, round the pit yard as the men went about there work on the pit top, no health and safety in them days, dogs were collected on route from old chaps around us, all types x breds and they soon got the idea of bushing , and my grew did the easy bit, could even use the canteen for cheap breakfast
  10. very nice ,look a real tidy job mule, atb.
  11. get it a few mates ,small outdoor flight and they nearly look after themselves, your back in the game
  12. don't let them go down too early sounds good advice,i never start too early and I don't use lights and do get a fair amount of young ,as for condition that comes from how they are looked after as you know, thats why I think it is better to breed from stock I have kept over winter and know whats gone into them ect, don't realy know why its been poor this year for some, have certain areas been better than others, :hmm:i for one don't do anything special just basic feeding and keep clean as poss.
  13. lads not trying to sound like a expert, this is only my findings, but birds will breed better/easyer when they are kept over winter and settled in there routine rather than bought start of season,i always keep a few young for next year.atb and well done enjoy the birds.
  14. they are doing well mule, but if I end up keeping them any length of time they are going in a indoor flight for over winter, got a few in a small outdoor flight part coverd and they look well and seem easy to look after in there, atb.
  15. how many birds would be too many in a double breeder ,I am talking young canaries,i have 4 per cage and don't like to see this many but this is only temp while they moult, and I rehome a few,i am making a large indoor cage to house about,8 birds together in case they all stay with me,wish I had more outdoor space for a giant flight
  16. glad its made it to the sticks, and that pair of feeders done well feeding the meal worms, shame no more hatched off for ya ,atb
  17. nice, keep that pair sound like they are doing a real job,i had trouble years back with foster birds not feeding bullys, they did seem scared or confused with the youngs gape, and I lost some chicks, not kept bullys since, too stressfull atb.
  18. mule not had any british for a good few year, but I have made a small outdoor flight and am thinking its ok for 1 or 2 pair to breed in next time, might get a pair goldies,or siskins,i bred too many irish this year for my needs,i only keep 4/5 pair over winter,my mate had some but he only fancied the pure yellows,so got a few spare verigated, atb.
  19. ended up with 26 young,my mate just collected 5 ,from the first clutches,10 /12 are staying here the other few will be going at some stage, put a tenner apiece on them but think I am too expensive cos not had any phone calls, :laugh:not too botherd can find room here if need be ,might swap for british :hmm:atb.
  20. had 2 good rounds, but let them go for a 3rd and not done as good, should have been happy with 2 lots but got greedy, somes for a mate that was short, the rest will stay with me .
  21. got me looking in at all times to catch a cock sitting but it just aint happening with any of mine, daytime or evening ,the hens are sitting 24/7 .the males are only going near to feed the sitting hens,
  22. thanks , only got 6 double breeders these days,so only keep a few,and a small outside flight I put up few week back for 2/3 pair for the grandkids to watch ,hope you bred a few this time atb.
