If you are on a council allotment you can have them as the rules haven't been changed since the WW2 each allotment was encouraged to have chickens and rabbits to help during and after the war with foodAs long as you are only keeping hens not cockerels and the eggs are you or direct family and not for financial gain, have a go they can only say no

Got my chickens in my pen finally, took my time trying to get it fox proof as best I could as no ones ever kept chickens there before so I had to run it by the committee, a lot of the old boys voted against it because of the rats and foxes but just scrapped through so got some warrens, anyone else got any of these as they don't seem the brightest, put them in Sunday morning spent all afternoon down there, went for a few pints at 4.30 by 9.30 and a few of the lads winding me up about the foxes I went back down there and none had worked out how to get up the ladder into the coup so I spent the b

It does look good and is easy maintenance. How does crop rotation come into it then though, is the frame movable for where you are going to grow them next year? TC If I hadn't of fixed scaffold boards around the bottom of the frame I could move it if I wanted but it would be pretty heavy now and too much hassle

The frame was originally going to be a polytunnel but it was a cheap one of fleabay so I netted it instead as I saw one in a gardening mag and thought it was a good idea as I'm trying to keep everything low maintenance, when I'm back working days I won't have half the time I have now, I know a lot of lads don't like the raised beds but there so much easier to keep on top of with the weeding. I've lost a lot of growing space with them and putting the slabs down but hopefully that will pay off when I'm older not having to struggle as much with the digging and getting about in the mud I have

Terry I've just got some of them gladiator parsnips as I've been told there tasty, I've also got myself some sweet candle carrots has anyone on here grown them I've raised one of my beds by another scaffold board and topped it up with sharp sand, compost and vermiculite so I can grow some descent sized parsnips and carrots, it's the bed with the micro mesh on I have also built my pea trellis up high as I've just sown some aldermans peas, been told there heavy croppers, anyone tried these

Terry fair play to you, untill you get a plot you don't appreciate the hard work that involved digging over a plot I've hopefully broke the back of the plot now and can start to concentrate on growing, only problem I've got now is whoever it speak to down there for advise tells me don't listen to him you want to do it like this

Not been on for a while but finally started to get things in the ground at last after all the building work, white and red onions and some shallots, never eat shallots but thought I'd give them ago, hopefully got some leeks coming and potatoes should be going in this week The sheds nearly finished after my mate managed to get me a door after promising me for weeks Managed to get myself some heras fencing so the chicken pens nearly there, been reading in the feather section and think I'm going for some hybrids as I don't want anything too skittish as mr fox is rife down there but hopefully w
