I don't think there is a point to be missed here , tell me one reason why he wouldn't want his fac opened up. Here were my reasons. A so I could shoot unaccompanied. B Make my own call on the suitability of ground without the hassle of having it passed every time you shot somewhere new. So your reasons not to have an open fac are ?????

Paul.L replied to langouroux's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Grousekeeper84, imo you have just given me an insight to your inexperience spouting such drivel.I suggest you research the calibre .308 win properly .Why is it a horrible calibre to shoot, not as flat as some ,so get to know your ballistics ,to much recoil then you need to man up a bit . -
meopta meostar r1 3-12 x 56 illuminated reticle.
Paul.L replied to scamp's topic in Optics and Night Vision
Haven,t that particular scope ,but a 4-16 x44 tactical on top of a .308 .Very good glass it compares favourably with a s&b i have, that cost a lot more . -
Bullets and powders are geting scarce ,nothing is being shipped from the US at the moment ,Ive been told due to the war effort , and anything that makes it to these shores is quickly being snapped up. Vhit powders and Lapua bullets are ok and I picked up 200 sierra sp in .243 and 200 Lapua sp in .308 .Noslers are like hens teeth. If you do find any then I suggest you buy in bulk if you can that includes propellant and primers.

Sound Moderators, are they really required?
Paul.L replied to andyf's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
My .243 with mod has its uses , it doesn,t live on the rifle however .Poi does not change ,so I can pop it on when the need arises ,its nicer to shoot when on however. My .308 will never wear a mod only because I don,t wish to ruin the classic look of the rifle . I have also taken multiple beasts from a herd unmoderated , so not sure it makes a difference there either imho. -
Just cut around the base of the brush as mentioned leaving bone intact and use a stick with a 8"split down the length place brush inside split and pull , it really is that easy , I think if your pulling the brush away from the body you may be cutting to deep into the bone ,never had it happen to me.

Thats exactly the problem fella, all that testosterone flowing through the beast = nasty!!!

Winchester 223 supreme balistic silver tip
Paul.L replied to speedystu's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
I use them in .243 and they are that good ,consistantly accurate ,but pretty damn expensive ,have paid £32 although trying to replicate with a homeload. -
Peter, Have yet to try any reloads using the BTs I have the CT ballistic tips as used on the Winchester supreme Silver tips . Same primers as yourself ,and Norma brass, Will have a go over the weekend starting at 40 working up to 42 .Will let you know how it goes Where did you find the data for this load please Peter, All the best Paul.
-
Yes I too would be interested in the outcome with these. I am reloading some Nosler 95g BT for a friend's 243 which will be for roe - what appeals to me is that FPS will be around 2850 so (hopefully) it should leave some meat on the bone. Anyway he will be over at the weekend to try the different combinations I have made up. Peter DiceHorn interested in your reloading of the 95gr BTs What powder you using for them . I am trying to find a load using H414 without joy .

As mentioned before it all depends how deep your pockets are. They all do the job so its all down to personel preference, some people prefer to buy something slightly cheaper and then get it worked on ,trigger etc, Others would rather buy the finished article . Another vote for the Sako 85 stainless /synthetic
-
I use accutips in my .243 very accurate ,but a bit naughty regarding meat damage ,but they do do the business as do Winchester silvertips ,which are unbelievably accurate but also very expensive . federal are a decent factory round I think I used to use 100gn powershok.
-
My Sako came factory screwcut chopped to 20" with wildcat predator 8 its 24" . without mod its a very nice fast handling rifle ,down side muzzle flip .
-
I use 95gr Winchester silvertips around 3200fps out of this very accurate
-
Tyla ive got some here if you want to come and collect as you are near me , I bought them when I didn,t know any better Never did use them and there are two boxes of ten . PM me

Mudman ,get down the range and start punching paper have a look at your technique ,breathing etc get some one to watch you,to see if your doing any thing obvious wrong ,I have been following this thread from the beginning people are to quick to rubbish the rifle , when in fact its down to pilot error .I would say that there are very very few bad rifles on the market due to the technology nowadays , Tikka /sako among the best rifles available,of course you can get a bad one ,but doesn,t mean there all shit my SAKO 85 is a tack driver 1/2" groups with any premium factory ammo . Do not get dish

Need some help guys ,I live pretty much as far south as you can without getting your feet wet .I need some advice on getting started with some deer stalking , thats not to far away (couple of hours drive) what I really need is a recommedation from you more experienced people to where I can get the whole package from so I can do all the relevant course work ,practical then eventually get help with the paper work and advice on a suitable rifle . I don,t go into things lightly and have done a bit of home work but you cannot beat personel recomendations as I confess to not knowing squat regardi

It is a case of each to their own ,I do and have done for years buy a days driven shooting every year ,its kind of a tradition with me and in the years have shot with some incredibly stuffy people, but on the whole most of the shoots have been pretty informal affairs which is nice . I suppose in the eyes of a seasoned game shooter the prospect of sitting in a hedge waiting for a pigeon or not may seem a strange thing to do .I went out yesterday with my lad sat in a hide and I just let him get on with it missed a few , most importantly listened to what I had to say and finished up 5 from 17 n

The lad nagged me enough to take him out for a bit of pigeon for a couple of hours today.I was going to have a day on the clays, but the weather didn,t look to clever .He does shoot clays with me and he,s not a bad shot ,but he,s never had a go at pigeons or any thing else for that matter. So first thing I had to do was send him back upstairs to change the bright red hoodie he had on I grabbed the semi and emptied a box of carts into my pocket and we walked out of the back gate and onto my permission how lucky am I.Got settled into a nice little place in the corner of one field in a hide I kee
