had the same problem with my dogs was given advice from another member, you need to go back to basics take the dog where ther is no smells etc for it to get excited over put it on a long washing line etc and practice recall over and over, praising the dog every time it returns, once its doing that parrot fashion take the dogs where it wants to hunt still using the washing line, once the dog is excited and on to something give it its recall command if it doesnt come back on the first recall then drag it back sharpish it will soon get the message, well mine did anyway! keep doing this over and o

guys many thanks for your thoughts on the matter, i have come to the decision to keep him and give him one last chance i have taken on board a lot of advice. the dog will NEVER be alone in the room with the baby. he will never be in the room with just my wife and baby until i have broken him to sudden noises alarms etc i also am going to train him further have arranged an expert recommended by the vets to come round and tell me where i amgoing wrong. i have also enrolled on a series of training classes. when looking back on the situation the dog firstly was acting protectively going for the t

Thanks for your replys, oneredtrim your last post has really struck a cord with me. thinking back through the situaiton the dog was scared both me and my wife was shouting at him, the fire alarm was screaming and top it off the other terrier was in his face. i grabbed the dog to move him to another room and was thinking shit he was biting me and i pretty much did the same as you and through him up at the bedroom wall and gave him a good boot, he dived under the bed all the while the fire alarm is still screaming my wife bless her cotton socks is nine months pregnant was hysterical. i caught

thanks for the replies. The crate is a fantastic idea. I spoke to a friend via the phone and he instantly suggested the same, he also said the dogs are taking the piss and dont know their place in the pecking order the crate will be used at night etc. i feel realy disapointed with myself and would have bet my mortgage that neither of my dogs would ever have bitten me. but it goes to show how in certain situations you just never know. Advice would be greatfully recieved. I have 2 male terriers a lakey and a russell they get on ok the occasional tear up but more noise than anything else. I keep them indoors i know some of you would frown upon this but they go with me everywhere. i would pay money to see terriers catching sqirrels in the open they are the kings of taking the piss!! good exercise for the dogs though.

I can see both sides of the argument, my parson is jrt club registered and comes from working stock if you are carefull and choose your breeder you can still get a good working dog, i personaly dont have a problem with standardising the breed as long as you choose your breeder correctly

I took one of my terriers with me to the highlands of scotland last year and he got covered it was my honeymoon we were just walking etc and he got them all over him its realy bad up there with the sheep and deer etc, and i kid you not i got a tick on my bollock! i noticed it when i was going for a jimmy we were staying in a holiday cottage, i called out to my wife and she thought it was hillarious. She removed it with tweezers! id had a couple of beers so saw the funny side. Down here in kent foreign ticks have hit the headlines and a couple of dogs have died. all the best

Chief maybe its best you do walk away then. The lads been out lamping with his terrier and wants to share that with people on the forum so what? thats a fantastic idea, its funny that every dog in britain understands "wheres ya lead" and they know that without trying i will work with that many thanks everyone. it was interesting what "mrs russell" was saying about the dog sitting still waiting silent in order not to get itself further in trouble also he becomes vunerable so the best thing is to keep silent, they rely so much on you there has been a few times now when ive bailed the dogs out and it is very true about their bond growing i have a great bond with the lakey, but not as much with the russell, but am looking forward to brin

i fancied an evening walk with my lakey on some mod land near me my other dog a russell has had an op recently so left him at home. Where i take him is stunning lots of open fields and hedges etc loads of bits and pieces to keep the dog happy had walked a couple of miles from my car, right in the middle of no where i was following the top of a small valley with a stream running through it. A few months ago i was out with my mate on the downs and i commented to him how many rabbits there were and how promising it looked as there seemed to be no mixy, However as usual i spoke to soon, as over the last couple of weeks the rabbit population round my way has been hit realy hard its a real shame as this seems to happen every year. My terriers are catching mixy rabbits every day when ive got them out, I'm allways a bit worried though can dogs catch anything of mixy rabbits? all the best

cheers steve thats good to know, i have been looking back through my pups lines and one of his great grandparents was timber. he also has other meynells and glantowy in his blood lines. I got him from a breeder in kent who has about ten dogs meynells and glantowys, whats nice is all her dogs are workers and she is passionate about the breed she calls them parson russells. im realy impressed with the breed ive allways been a lakey man, but this little pup is slowly winning me over all the best mate thanks everyone for your replies Is there actualy a difference between parsons and jack

I have long legged russell pup and hes meynell lines, i was wondering if any one else works meynell dogs or whether they are mainly show dogs, Im sorry if ive just asked a stupid question but id like to learn a bit more as im new to Russells . I use him for ratting mainly and other bits and pieces and so far hes been spot on. Many thanks.

Ratting ive a mate whos got plummers and we take them for a laugh, theyll naturally take other bits and pieces but more through luck when were out having a mooch! The pup is a real fearless little bugger id like to introduce them to a bit more but i dont have the knowlege. He's meynell lines

jesus you nob why are you calling the bloke a spastic for clipping his dog, ive got two terriers both are clipped as short as i can get them this time of year i run them every day on the downs during the summer if i didnt keep them short they would probaly die from the heat all you boys seem to do is talk rather than actualy DO if you actualy got of your fat arse you would realise this nice dog though mate and my dogs coats are fine in the winter its differnt strokes for differnt folks

guys i obviously dont have a prob with the staff, basicly my gripe was that you try and spend all your time and effort bringing your dog on and you get a tosser who cant control his dog regardless of breed, the problem is they do so much damage to your dog he is only 12 months old and he has been done over on three occasions now ironicly all by staffs, he is a nervous little dude at the best of times cheers for you posts i will post a pic of him..

just a quick moan, why does every chav seem to own a frekin staff. I was running my dog on the beach today nursing a hangover minding my own, when along comes a massive staff and trys to rip my lakelands throat out, obviously i split them up and get bitten in the process. It realy pisses me off you try your hardest to bring your dog on and you get these tossers who dont exercise there dogs dont work them and dont train them but they get them to look hard and wouldnt know what countryside is unless its on eastenders. i am interested to know what food people would recommend? i feed my lakeland terrier vitalin mixed with natures best also he gets raw meat three times a week i buy the frozen stuff from the big pet shops for working dogs, he seems to be doing well on it and has good conditioning but i would like to add a little more muscle however he is only 12 months old has he got any more growing to do naturaly? i have also heard of terrier mix but am unsure of where to get it and whether its much kop? thanks for advise and good luck

thats fantastic advise, the good thing is i live within a five minute drive of a canal so will try it. i am struggling at the moment i have been taking him out on the downs most evenings and getting realy close to some rabbits and i have invested in a good powerfull torch but he doesnt keep his bloody head up and watch them until it is too late he is as keen as mustard and not stupid but its as if he wnats to pick up a scent most of the time and not watch what is in front of him i know he could run them no problem as he has on a couple of occasions in daylight do you think the bright torch lig
