  1. just ask local newsagent if he can start getting it in for ya. doesn't cost any extra.
  2. easy. i think germany could have put out a better rugby side...
  3. aye thats a decent idea sterry, might try putting some sand out, cheers. pretty certain it's not brown rat.
  4. hey guys, just a quick question. out on walk today alongside a ditch and spotted hole with run leading down to the water and lot of empty snail shells by the entrance hole. any idea if it could be mink? or water vole maybe? cheers.
  5. aye pal, deffo feed, but important to get balance right, not to overfeed or underfeed, trial and error, important as once season starts up again, you want the birds to know there will always be food there, but dont overfed as they may not need to come back again for couple of days cos they'll be full. if done correctly it can be good sport, but if not then inland duck can be shockingly bad. hope ya get some teal into the shallows.
  6. hey all, i've posted a similar topic in the gamekeeping section, but thought i'd try here too. i've recently moved to nottinghamshire and i am looking for a keeper/syndicate seeking help beating or just a general hand now out of season and during the season. i have worked as an underkeeper on a large estate before, shotgun, car and hard working. just miss the work. cheers.
  7. waste of natures finest animal if you shoot it. get yourself a lurcher!
  8. sounds like you'll have a good little dog there then hollie. nothing beats the thrill of seeing your own dog using nose and giving chase, what it's all about. enjoy.
  9. deffo sounds like a cataract. as long as she's not suffering should be fine, i've got a hob who been blind since birth and he still stinks so rabbits still bolt!
  10. wow he's a beauty! i've had couple that size, worked fine. still looking for a home for the 'litlle' fella??
  11. yeah, follow the advice. not a good idea at all, no matter how big your hob. i've got one who you could mistake for a polar bear but i wouldnt put him in rat nest. if it's for serious pest control then get traps out.
  12. cheers for the speedy reply mate. yeah thats what i thought, cant imagine they'd be able to turn too quickly. let us know how it goes if she gets any luck this week.
  13. looks like good day out. i was part of a group of us up in north wales who were a gun pack, even pre ban. always busy this time of year, one fox can make huge dents in flock if left to it. good work.
  14. hey guys & gals, just a quickie - anyone on here ever worked or seen working wolfhounds? i know they were obviously first bred to hunt wolves, but has anyone ever used them for anything over here? pre ban fox perhaps? just interested as me and my terrier bumped into one yesterday - like the little n large show! cheers.
  15. real quality pics. could have used your expertise yesterday when i was out walking - three hares playing about in an un-spoilt white field.
  16. glad to see your enjoying new job - what does it involve exactly? i'm looking for new job myself.
  17. thanks for all the replies guys, esp andyF. wheels are in motion.
  18. best to start them young as possible, like tiny pups. helps if you know someone with a big mean hob who'll give pup a nip if he gets too 'energetic'! but it's always best to be careful, dont leave terrier with anything small and fluffly unless you really have to!
  19. hi all. i've recently moved fomr rural north wales to not so rural nottingham! my guns are still at address in wales and i want to move them here. so what do i need to do? get in touch with both police forces? will there be any problems moving to city area?
  20. i began a degree course at Salford Uni in Wildlife Conservation 2 years ago. i can 100% NOT reccomend this course at the uni. for a course to be classed as full time, it has to run for a certain amount of hours per week. at salford they didn't seem to have enough modules to fill the time slot, so had 4 hours of maths and statistics each week, pure algebra type maths.... on a wildlife course.... yeah!! if You want to do a course like this, i'd reccomend one of the specialist colleges (harper adams, bishop burton etc) labsnlurchers - congrats! hope you can get some sense across to the p
  21. like mickb said - if they was my dogs it'd be last time twat shot anything as it's hard aim when your eating food through a straw.
  22. 'fraid it probably does boil down to price but just go by trial and error if you can afford to, you'll know when you're happy with your set up, but even then you'll constantly think of ways to improve.
  23. i'd say it's a bit early for larsson, more effective when songbirds and the like start laying in nest. once you do set 'em up just keep your decoy happy and should trap plenty.
  24. i went to bishop burton 7 years ago and i think it's a brilliant college. tutors give you loads of support, good library, my tutors had all had hands on experience and got you out of the classroom as much as possible. shown how to snare/trap, rearing advice, crops, law etc. great all round course. i left and applied for two keeping jobs and was offered both. and unlike newton rigg, you leave bishops knowing how to spell. and there is a cracking pub in the village itself, the Altis.
