  1. sounds like a cracking morning. how is brown dog bred? looks like a strong 'un, like him alot.
  2. lovely looking dogs and scenery mate. i grew up in snowdonia, sure do miss the mountains.
  3. i can see your what your saying lawrence, but fact is that a dog taking fox is always gonna run the risk of more injuries than one taking bunnies, so in my opinion it a matter of dog getting job done with minimum fuss and least chance of hurting it's self, so for that reason i prefer a bigger heavier dog that can crash into red and really knock it out asap. just my thoughts though. .
  4. not much can be done mate, put into corner farthest from entrance and try to elevate the bowl off the ground as much as possbile, or try to insulate around outside with straw or something, i work on farm so always trying to find ways to stop water troughs freezing too hard but lately just had to go early in morning armed with hammer! and i wouldn't recomend using hot water as, believe it or not, hot water can freeze much quicker than cold water. something to do with the molecules being further apart allowing the frost to turn them into a solid quicker. called Mpemba effect, or something.
  5. ah thought you may say that, cheers for reply. i'm still gonna get one as me and missus both really like 'em will take it out on mooch but wont be expecting too much then from what i've heard. cheers.
  6. surely no just whippet mate...?gotta be something else in there.
  7. very good retriever mate!! must be plenty of the big 'uns round your way.
  8. looking good pal. can i ask what ya use the staff on, or what it particularly good at? i mentioned wanting to get a staff cross while back but got quite few replies saying not up to much, but i just really like staffs so interested to know what you make of yours in a working sense, cheers.
  9. hey fella's. at work today feeding animals and found a fox foot in middle of field of ponies. just the foot, no sign of any other body parts. i know there is foxes around the farm (we have free range chickens!!) but just wondering how foot came to be alone in field. there isn't any fox control on the site (school rules ) so any ideas? would crow/buzzard etc pick up dead fox as carrion?
  10. i got exact same reply even though i brought up some different issues (as well as the what the rest of us put) so just goes to show they not even reading them properly, just sending out a generic reply to all of us. makes me glad i dont pay fecking tv licence!!!
  11. me n a mate go out most weekends, just for the fun of the walk about really. i take my lakey x bushing he has grey x collie, work as a good little team but never get many more than 4 during day time,
  12. just about to do mine. who the f**k does craven think he is calling us 'perverted' twice??? no wonder the druggies and paeodphiles get away with so much shite when the bizzies are throwing so much time and funds into chasing decent country people minding their own. and the woman cop saying evidence can be a slip lead... a slip lead for f**k sake?? i was in pets at home the other day and loads slip leads there, they wanna be careful or they'll be getting done for aiding and abetting us terrible criminals...!!! FFS
  13. same here, it's as thick as as it comes, thicker than a feckin' anti!! have to be night on ale instead, hey ho!!
  14. and before any smart arse comments - no the missus doesn't reply with a "baaaaa" whilst scratching her wooly arse!
  15. reckon she'll struggle to make that now but, like i keep telling my missus, it's not the inches but what you do with them with that count!!
  16. gutted for ya mate, nothing worse than losing a hard worker, i know. all the best for future digs.
  17. should be a good cross, i know irish terriers are meant to be hard as nails and very brave. often when im bored, stuck in traffic etc i think of different crosses and think of what would be the good and bad points of each (anyone else do that???) and i often thought this be a decent cross. let us know how he goes, cheers.
  18. presume he means big fields poacher, not much cover or hedge. first cross grey collie is good mix stamina and speed, and though im no a big fan of them saluki x always shows good stamina too in my opinion.
  19. make really good eating. i know you leave guts inside snipe, think woodcock the same. my old uncle use to put bread under them when roasting, cos of guts being in black grease drops out onto bread and tastes really good apparantly like.
  20. gotta agree with gossy, love seeing pack working together, bushing on a cold afternoon, hip flask... ahhh sweet!
  21. can i ask why you got two in first place if never had before? and why the change of mind??
  22. sadly i had to have my parson put down earlier this year at 15 after 10 years of not only being best dog i've ever owned, but also one of the best i've ever seen. highly recomend. got mine from a hunt kennels in newtown mid wales, excellent line, i know my dogs dam was also well known as excellent worker.
  23. thanks to everyone who's replied. to everyone who said no to the staffy choice, why so adamant no no? i just happen to like staffy's, and one's i've seen have worked well. to those who questioned dog knowledge, i wont claim to be expert of any kind but am experienced with lurchers just no bull type. and someone who says smell bit fishy...??? do one pal.
  24. hey all. after much though and looking into it, i'm seriously considering getting a running dog with staffy in it. despite having owned different types of dogs for years never had much to do with bull types. so just after some advice.. what makes best type of cross? grey x bull? 1/2 1/2? and is it true that staffy shouldn't be left alone with other dogs?
