Has anyone got any pics of a smooth coated collie x greyhound? Dont mind if its 3/4 cross, or even if there is a bit of whippet in there. Just want some decent pics to show the missus, im having a battle talking her round to letting me get another dog soon, she is insistant that 'all lurchers are ugly' so i want some pics of nice lookers to prove her wrong, and its likely to be a collie/grey or bull/collie/grey that i get next. Thanks Gaz

Putting my Lurcher on BARF

Cheers mate, will let you know. Im not sure what pup to get yet. Something bigger than my beddy/whip. Ive considered Collie/Grey x Bull/Grey, Also looking at Deerhound/Collie/Grey x Saluki/Bull/Grey. Im pretty open minded really though, It wont be for about 12 months, weve just had our first baby so want her to settle in for 12 months or so before getting a pup. Gaz -

Okay, cheers pal. What about the quantity of feeds when a pup? 3 times a day? or twice? Thanks Gaz -
Youve got some nice dogs mate! That English is a cracker! And i love that little terrier! Is it a border? How is that lurcher bred? All nice dogs mate! Do you work them all? Gaz

Hey, Basically, My missus HATES long haired dogs, her sister has got a long haired German Shepherd X Collie end he moults like hell! Whenever we go round, he rubs against your leg and leaves a coat of hair behind on your trousers. Granted, he needs a damn good brush! But still, since them having this dog, she dislikes anything with long hair. My beddy/whip is only 1/4 beddy so is smooth haired. But i am thinking about something with maybe wheaton/deerhound/collie in the mix next time and would like a rough haired dog. Would you get this kind of problem with a rough coated

Putting my Lurcher on BARF

Thanks again everyone, you have been great. I will pass on the dry food and try straight on BARF. I will probably give weetabix and goats milk a few times a week while he is a pup aswell. Do you feed pups twice a day or three times? And if three times then when does it drop down to twice a day? 12 months? Thanks Gaz -

Thanks 'Kill Um' and nice photos! Looks like hes enjoying that. How long do you think you will feed dry food as well as BARF for? Just while hes a pup or forever? Do people feed pups on just BARF and do they do just as well? I really want to get away from ANY dry dog food if i can. Thanks Gaz -
Thats a nice looking bitch mate! How is she bred? Whats she like in the field? Gaz

Thanks again for the further replies. Kill um with crisps - You say your pup is on beta puppy, weetabix etc as well as BARF? How important is this? Has anyone put a pup straight onto BARF and just BARF? And can a 6 week old pup handle the bones okay? Chicken Carcass, Rack of lamb etc? Thanks Gaz -
Thanks for all the replies. And especially thanks to Hannah. Some great advice there, will take it all. Cheers Gaz

Thanks Wild_and_Irish, thats what i had heard. Is it best to keep walks to 10 or 20 mins when young then? And start walking more at 6 months or so? Gaz

Ive got that sorted mate, i worked in the local butchers when i left school for 12 months and im still on good terms with the boss so he would sort me out im sure. How much do you pay for the bulk of the items? Is most of it stuff what is no use to the butchers? ie breast of lamb, chicken carcass, beef bones, etc? Gaz -

Cheers mate, This whole BARF business doesnt sound that bad really. Im gonna give it a shot. Will give the veg a couple times a week yeh, as well as tripe, fish and eggs now and then. Thanks Gaz -
Thanks for the replies, My main concern was walking too far, too young. I will be hopefully getting a 6-8 week old pup, so as soon as it is jabbed up I will be taking it out for walking and socialising etc. Most of the walking will be tarmac and then over some fields and hills etc at weekends. How much walking would be too much for a young pup on tarmac? 1 hour a day too much? My lurcher gets walked every night, about 4 miles in 1 hour approx, all tarmac. Is it a myth that walking a pup too much can hinder development? Thanks Gaz

Thanks again for the further replies. Those of you who dont feed dry biscuits aswell, do your dogs get any carbs at all or not? Apart from the veg, do dogs need carbs or not? Can they thrive on just meat and bone? Also can Rabbit be fed straight from the field? Or do they need to be gutted? I noticed 'kill um with chips' - you said about freezing them to kill worm eggs, can they be frozen whole and defrosted then fed? Thanks again Gaz -

Okay, thanks for replies. I have been told that ‘rack of lamb’ is a good meal and also cheap and readily available. My adult lurcher is on 2 meals a day, so I was thinking of a diet something like this… AM – Tin Fish, Offal, Veg, Eggs, Tripe, Fresh Fish, Veg (Cycled over 7 days) PM – Either Rack of Lamb or Minced Chicken Carcass How would that look? I appreciate its trial and error but I think I need a basis to start me off so that I feel a little more confident about the change over. Also when I get my pup, would it go on something similar? Just spread ov -
Hello, Im thinking about putting my lurcher onto a BARF diet and then when i get another pup next year i will start that off on BARF from young. I am aware of the basic make up of the BARF diet, 60% Meaty Bones, 20% Offal, 20% Fruit and Veg. But how do you feed this over a week? Some people say feed the fruit and veg blended up every 3rd day, wouldnt this give the dog the shits on day 4? And also do you feed the offal on one day or spread over the other days with the Meaty Bones? Any example diets would be great, Thanks Gaz

Cheers pal, i should get myself a few books really. Just wondered what the general advice given on here is? Thanks Gaz

Ive done a search and couldnt find any topics on this subject, im sure there are some, but couldnt find them... I am hoping to get a pup in the next 12 months, either a bull/greyhound or a bull/grey x collie/grey. Ive got a beddy/whip at the moment, but i didnt have it from a pup, it was 18 months old and had already had a few runs when i got it. So how do you start a pup off regards running and not causing itself damage? When can you let a pup run? And how much can you walk them when they are young? I know if you walk the knackers off them when they are pups then it can cause last

Gorgeous little pup mate. Hope she does well for you!

saluki/grey x collie/grey dog over a pure grey Assuming that the Saluki Grey and Collie Grey are equal percentages then WEXFORD PA is spot on. Gaz

Nice looking pup mate. Love that 3rd pic of him. Is he just collie/grey or is there other bits and bobs in there? Gaz
