What are peoples views on this subject? Having a dog which is a pet and a worker? My dog lives in the house, plays with the missus and my little girl etc. How do you think this will effect him as a worker as opposed to being an outdoor dog that is kenneled and purely used for working? On one side of the coin I think it could could make him a better worker due to the bond that I am able to create with him spending so much time with him. And I've read that they "just know" when they are being a pet and when they are in the field with a job to do. On the other hand I've read that

On a serious note, the radio works a treat for my pup. I'm currently crate training him. He has got 2 types of cry, one is a howling whine, just him moaning that he's in the crate. Then there is a loud yap which he does when he needs to empty or when he wants radio on! Lol. I have increased how long he is in there for over time and now he only yaps for a few minutes before lying down and he will stay in there for hours quite happily. Good Luck.

After a bit more research I have decided to altenate 3 monthly, Advocate and Drontal Plus. Advocate does the Lungworm which Drontal misses and Drontal does the Tapeworm which advocate misses. And the flea/tick treatment from advocate is a bonus. Obviously while a pup I'm worming much more regularly. Currently using a syrup which breeder was using. Will switch to drontal/advocate at 12 weeks. Gaz

Nice name mate. You will have to keep us updated with your progress. Would be good comparing litter brother and sister as they mature.
-
You won't be disappointed mate. You having a dog or a bitch? Gaz

Thanks for replys. There seem to be really mixed reviews on the advocate. Some love it and some hate it. I suppose its the same with everything, someone has had a bad experience with all of them. What do most people use? It's looking like drontal 3 or 6 monthly. Gaz
-
That was gonna be my suggestion mate. Use drontal in between. Sounds like a good plan. Can you get Drontal plus off internet or over counter anywhere? I will probably use the drontal monthly till he's 6 months old with advocate at the 3 and 6 month stage . Then do alternate advocate and drontal every 3 months. What you reckon?

I've called him Rocky mate. Will get pics up ASAP. Not got computer or internet at home, use my phone to get on here. Will go my mothers to put some up. Take it easy, Gaz.

Just wondering how many people have got pet insurance? Ive read a few post with people having £300 plus bills for injurys and I know X-Rays can be silly money. Do you tell the insurance company it's a worker? I guess not? Do they start asking questions when your on claim number 6 etc? All obtained "playing in the park"? I'm just trying to weigh up the pros and cons. Obviously the other option is to chuck £30 a month into a pot for when treatment is required. But I don't think this will go far with vets prices today. Gaz

Deerhound hunter - what age do they got on your nerves mate? Bunnys - I've called him rocky. Did another 5 mins this morning and he is getting the hang of retrieve now :-)

These are all cracking pups. Realy well reared litter with no expense spared. I picked mine up on Sunday and I'm really chuffed with him. I've seen both parents work and I wasn't disappointed. My pup is bright as a button and I'm sure he's gonna make a great dog. Gaz.

Thanks for replys. Tatty - Do you raw feed? I take it that it's kept everything away? Bradaz - 3 months is more realistic. Leaflet ive got says monthly. Money maker!?

Yeh your bang on Thorny. My EBT was put to sleep aged 7 i think after years of ongoing health problems. Even at that age he Destroyed everything and would only sit for food :-)

Thanks for replys. He is a gooden rogue. Hope you find good homes for the others. Ive got patience and lots of time so fingers crossed. I'm certainly not in a rush. Gaz

I got my pup on Sunday from Rogue off here. He is roughly 1/2 Grey, 1/4 Saluki, 1/4 Whippet and is 7 weeks old tomorrow. I think he is super intelligent! The only pup ive ever tried to train was an English Bull, that was hard work and never really happened so maybe I'm just comparing to that? Ive had him 2 days, he is crate trained, as in I put him in there when I want him in and he only yaps for about 3 minutes before lying down. He barks when he needs to empty himself and goes straight to his cardboard by the back door. Then back into cage. He sits on command, % of the tim

Been to vets this morning to get the pups first jabs. It was £40 for the "check-up" and the jabs, including the jabs at 10 weeks. And I got a 1 dose of a worm and flea treatment called advocate. It's a Spot-On treatment. Has anyone used this Advocate before? It supposedly treats lungworms, heartworms, tapeworms, fleas, mites etc. And is basically an all in one. 1) It says use monthly, is this EVERY month for the dogs life? Sounds a little extreme? 2) Is the worming side of this treatment good enough for working dogs and dogs that eat raw? If it's not gonna be adequate

Thanks for the replies folks. Much appreciated. Gaz

I was just a bit worried about choking with bein so young. Is there much risk with lamb bones? Cheers Gaz

Hi lads, Ive just posted in working dog health about feeding my new pup lamb bones. Think I would of been better putting it here. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/174914-lamb-bones-for-pup/page__pid__1766675#entry1766675 Any advise appreciated. Gaz

I collected my 7 week old pup yerstersay. Saluki/Whippet/Grey bred by Rogue off here. Pups are a credit to him and I'm really pleased with mine. He has fed them raw a few times a week and I want to Continue this and probably end up on mostly BARF. Ive just been to my local "butcher". It turns out he basically buys meat in and sells it on. Doesn't actually butcher anything :-s The only "cheap" meat he had was best stewing steak, lol, so got the pup 2lb of that for 5 quid. And he had a tray of lamb bones which he said I could have for a quid. No organ meat, no chicken win

Hi, I have posted in Retrievers/Gundog forum recently asking about labs. I'm thinking about getting a dog in next 12 months and cant decide what to get. I wanna give it some thought. Firstly it will be a family dog, in the house. Secondly it will be my companion when out walking, mooching, shooting etc. I was thinking about a lab because of ability to retrieve what I shoot. However I'm now considering terriers. Possibly Patterdale or Lakeland. My mate has just had a little Patt x and its lovely. Would also like to do a bit of ratting now and again. I aren't intere
