  1. I do have a handline, as a visual aid in my research. I got the book ways of the old poacher. That's how income across it. Just wonder what parts of rivers they set them on. Isit really s simple as a worm on a hook? I'd be interested in knowing how it was done back in the day by you guys just for my notes. Pm is fine mind haha. Also locating fish on some of the small rivers and streams, seem to shallow and fast in places but then you have small deep pools and no way of knowing of anything is in there.
  2. Just doing a bit of research about old methods and interested in the handlines. What methods did they use? End tackle, bait? How do they know where the fish are on the river? Where are the night lines set and how? Interesting to learn about methods now gone ?.
  3. For those brook trout? I always get told worm and a splitshot let drift down. I guess if you got a river full they will take it. Some people do amazing on handlines.
  4. I got one today with half a worm on the hook and a shot up the line. I'm still new to this and trying to fond the best way to bag em. And how to locate them. Example i went to a small brook today, never been, couldn't see anything, and there were a few deep bits on the bends. Every now and then there was a splash and im assuming it was trout taking the flys that were everywhere. Couldn't see them in the water as i say so. Fishing blind really.
  5. Thanks for the replys gents. It's just when its injured and its calling out In pain, tugs at the heart strings. Good to see others here think in the same way. I had a nice bag last night but they were all clean kills with the air rifles. I know what you mean about the foul hooked fish when they swallow it.
  6. No I understand mate. It was for the ferret that I shot it, I normally give them bits of pheasant as a bit of roughage. If it had been a clean head shot i would of been om with it but I guess being up close to the injured bird and picking him up I had alot of compassion for him.
  7. Alright guys. Just wanted to ask, are every kill of yours clean or have you had guilty times? I just shot a crow in the carpark by mine and it hit the wing. He couldn't fly but run off trying. I had to keep chase down the road to and about I've minutes later he turned into the long grass and just sat there. When I got up close poor bugger was looking up at me. I checked him over and his wing was badly Injured so I put him to sleep. I just feel bad because it was never my intention to out it through any suffering and when he finally stopped he was just looking up at me. As silly as it sounds I
  8. Hiya lads. Just want to give a shoutout for somebody on here. His catapults are absolutely cracking, and the cores are water jet cut. They're like the proper original Sam Stanley gypsy catapults. I've just ordered a ttf from him. His page is hand carved hunting catapults on fbookm check him out.
  9. Personally im way more accurate with a ttf
  10. I do have a hw97k, and did have a daystate x2 but I found it hard work and had lots of issues. Mainly this gun is just a project and a bit of fun but I've taken plenty of game. Just trying to get it a bit closer to 12 ft.lb
  11. Hiya guys. Had my ratcatcher 2250 xl for about five months now. Took rabbit and pheasants with it over the months. Now yesterday I took it apart for the first time, and did a few internal bits to it. Nodded the valve, hammer spring and transfer port. Now I've heard that fitting the 2260 rabbit stopper barrel is a good mod to do, takes the barrel from 18" to 24". I did however read an article yesterday that did an experiment and a longer barrel was actually reducing power? Just wondering what your opinions are guys.

  15. Just wondering what this is like compared to gold? I have an absolute mountain of the stuff I got from he physio in work so was thinking of making bandsets but not sure if it needs double or triple or what?

  17. Goliath is fine for 9.5 and the 8mm stuff is good for heavy ammo. I have both here.
  18. Where on the taff are you going to be fishing
  19. Well we saw another rat yesterday this time a smaller one, again it was under the shed. Tried sticking a broom under to see if it would bolt but nothing. I also found a new run, where the fence meeting the house they have dug the gravel out in the corner and there's a hole they can go in and out of. Im going to try the trap against that fence I think as I bet they're running the fence. Shed is small and on pallets. Only problem the dogs keep knocking the box so have to lock em In.
  20. There's definitely rats about the place, I cant see it being mice.
  21. I've just reset em both, one right by the entrance this time. Im from Pontypool how about you?
  22. I know, just getting ready for march.
  23. Had them set really light, there was alot of peanut butter on both and Down the side of her house is full of junk and rubbish so I think they would of gone in fairly fast. Can't imagine it being slugs.
  24. Ok my sister has rats about the garden and the side of the house, she saw a big un and the dogs were after it. I got two victors, baited with peanut butter and made a cubby box out of a council waste food bin. Put it on the side of the hoise last night, both traps gone off, peanut butter gone, no rats. Any ideas for when I reset em later?
