dont know how big your boxes are but best to keep them just big enough for dog to lie down if they are any bigger it gives them room to mess inside the box maybe good idea to give the 2 dogs seperrate boxs as well

Has anyone ever had a patterdale...

what to do is buy yourself a springer and to help you out with kennel space i will take that terrier of you as long as it stays for days -
i seen a programme with that man in it. long time ago now. What would you want a PitXWheaten for. Whats the theory behind crossing them? Trying to make a wheaten gamer?? i remember their was cases of boys in the north crossing english bulls/staffs into wheatens, but the were silent workers. most pits i seen got better vocal range than PAVAROTTI. Make a Wheaten taller for crossing into greyhounds???? yes know a lot of englishbull/staff put to wheatens along time ago very silent but that was what you wanted seen these dogs work very very handy still some of the same blood around

wooden clothes peg take it apart turn both flat ends to face each other then put piece of cassette tape in between tape one end then slightly open other end and insert same piece of wood something like a match stick then blow gently through middle may need to play around to get right size match then tape up that end as well leaving gap in middle to blow though costs pennys i have been using this for years and once you have made your first one it only gets easier

lad i knew in london had one very wide in the chest hard as nails but was a nightmare with other dogs turned out size of lakie smooth coated and brindle put a very good fell dog over her she only had 2 pups i had one and the lad kept the other the one i had was a dog came up a bit big and was also a ba;;;;d for fighting had to go the other was a bitch came on well and the lad ended up losing the bitch in a deep dig

some very good replys to this one diffenitly differrent to years ago when you could go out mob handed and not get any bother and even the young dogs would get a chance to see plenty of work but one of the most important things is to be true to yourself when it comes to keeping young dogs that will probably not make the grade because you bred it from your best does not always mean it will do the same you may need to cull hard sometimes but this is better than passing on dogs that you would not keep then a few years down the line you see them being used to bred from and producing sub stantard do

earth dog running dog lad in there advertises every month steel shaft and i think it was £31 and that included the postage and if you know anyone driving over to london couple of places there you can get them with wooden shafts for about a £10 dont know how much postage but if there driving they could fetch some back

deepest dig was 12 feet but it was easy going but hardest dig was 7 feet in a old tip after 3 foot hit a chest freezer and had to dig around it then hit a roll of chain link had to digaround that then last 1foot hit concrete slab your right had to go around the side of that and then tunnel in dog still going strong and 2 foxs well bottled up i slept well that night

think you are missing the point here would not care if he had only seen 10 in his first season what i am saying 1 season does not make a fox dog he is a good dog for what he has done but another season will tell have had good fox dogs that throw in the towel after 2-3 seasons would not even let this dog be used on a bitch until he has 3 seasons under his belt and have had a few lads already inquiring for his services
-
exactly different strokes for different folks 4-5-6 average day with the bobery pack and i dont count ones in nets or grabbed by terriers in cover know shooters hill very well mackem will be their in the morning
-
that is no joke matey but still not a fox dog needs to do the same or better this year and quite a few lads know me on here know this is not bullshit not into bragging
-
lets have it right the only reason to breed a litter is for personal use any left over should be given to lads that are going to test them and not bullshit you and if needed will return the favour
-
working terriers come in all colours and this should be last concern what we should be worryed about is the working ability
-
maybe i am wrong but i dont run my dogs on the lamp only work them daytime so as for the many they take in a night i would not know but at the minute i am running a young dog that started last season bull greyhoundxbullgreyhoundwhippet he has taken 34 single handed daytime foxes but to me he stills needs to prove himself this season to be called a fox dog

Thanks lonedigga . So lablad, i'd be interested to hear why you are claiming ownership of dogs on an American website, please explain I'm sure were all interested to hear the explanation. I seem to remember when you joined last year you explained you were still at school, perhaps its still time to sit back and listen? Heres some advice you gave me a while ago and I think I can now return the sentiments.................. Mister know all, best to say nowth. i think that answers everything

-
just got back and seen some of the replys one caught my eye when you said funny how they all come out of the woodwork when one of their own is being attacked by one of their own i am assuming you mean hunting folk in my opinion if your not one of us you then must be one of them ie anti hunting where do you stand on that issue

as this site is called THE HUNTING LIFE someone who has admitted to not working his dogs should not be passing judgment on someones dogs that are doing the job it does not matter where you live [inner city or rural] what matters is you do right by your dogs if the 4 dogs in pictures were lined up and i was asked to pick 2 to take home for myself it would be northsiders 2 as they are doing the job they were put on earth to do and not lying up on the sofa watching the tv
-
smart looking terriers nice to see a couple of dogs that are obviously doing the job instead of show type clean skined rabbiting dogs
-
worker to worker and be true to yourself about the dogs capabilitys and what you want from them and must be prepared to cull anything that dont make the grade
-
how many of you will be running single handed dogs
kirstysdad replied to moter poacher's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs

what we keep is a small pack of fell type terriers we have just breed from them if we need more and start running the pups with the adults from about 9 monthes old dont give them earth work until they are 14-15 months old the lurchers we use are bull/whippet/greyhound of or own stuff and i am running a bull/greyhound dog who catchs alot but at 25 inches is a bit big for the bush work we do as for the houndxterrier for bush work have seen these work and they work well but need to be used more in a rural setting as we hunt round the houses and in town we need terriers that are fairly biddable
