  1. This bitch is now sorted. Thanks to all who responded via PM (said I would reply individually but too many) showing an interest, and also to those who posted. =============================================================== I rarely make any good decisions, and here's another bad one. Succumbed to pressure for a 'house dog' and bought this bitch for wife and kids last year. Specifically had to be Whippet X Bull, but that's another long story! Anyway kids have got no interest whatsoever, and wife, God bless her, just does not have enough hours in the day. I do not keep working dogs any longe
  2. wher abouts are you in east yorks ? p.m me ,jamie Hi Jamie, See recent response to Wuzzy how wide an tall is it ,becouse if it fits in the car i'll come an git it tomorrow if thats ok jamie Hi Jamie, My original post asked for PM's, stated that you would need a van or trailer as it won't dismantle and is heavy, and I later posted (in a response to Wuzzy) that a lad from nearby was interested, and that if he does not come there at 2 other waiting to hear from me. So sorry mate, it looks like it will be going, one way or another. If however everyone lets me down, which I don't a

  4. I put this up last week-end and had loads of callers. One lad definitely wanted it, so badly he didn't even bother to show! All others who replied seemed very decent, but I put them off, as distance they had to travel I did not feel would be worth their while in fuel. As I said in first post, it's a relatively good, sound cage, but not worth a lot of money, which is why I am giving it away to anyone who can collect it. I have only put it up again, as I am reluctant and would be very sad to chop it up, but if not wanted, or collected by 12.00 on Saturday 9th May that's what will happen. Shame I
  5. I now know all I need to, thanks.
  6. Sent you a pm a couple of days ago
  7. I know this may sound like a daft question mate, but have you actually been round to his house and simply asked for your dogs back. From what you say, it might be that things have gone beyond reason, but it could be worth taking a small step back, and approaching things differently, even at this late stage. Take someone, non threatening, with you as a witness, and if things do get ugly, just leave. If you are (or feel) threatened in any way, that will do him few favours if the matter does go further. It seems like you have a pretty strong case legally, especially if you are in possession
  8. Have just read the story about a lady who apparently brought 5 stray dogs over from Sri Lanka that were placed in quarantine. One that was subsequently found to have rabies bit her, and two other people. All 5 dogs were destroyed, and the people bitten have received treated and are not thought to be at risk. Now, is it me, but do we not have enough strays here? While I am not uncharitable, I'm nevertheless dismayed and deeply disturbed, that with all the human suffering in the world, anyone could spend all that money (flights from Sri Lanka, quarantine X5 for 6 months) on bringing 5 stra
  9. IGB it is then, check the website. Should have no problems
  10. Hi, key in his tatoo on the relevant box on www.greyhounddata.com, which does not always have the dog's identity, or alternatively look on the IGB (Irish) website or call them. Have assumed from your post that the dog's Irish and tatooed in both ears, British have only one ear tatoo that should not have 5 letters/digits.
  11. A good start would be to pull the sheath back and give it a good clean (watch it, he won't like it), with cotton wool and warm clean water, using a clean piece each time. If it continues thereafter a course of antibiotics may be in order.
  12. Hi, You need to get your dog checked out by a vet who specialises in greyhound injuries. A general vet may not pick up on certain injuries, which, while not unique, are relatively common in racing dogs. It would be impossible to suggest what might be wrong with your dog without seeing it, and perhaps not even then, but I can say with certainty, that from what you have described, your dog is carrying an injury, which will only be made worse if you continue to run it without establishing what it is, and treating it.
  13. The best lurcher I ever saw (sadly not mine), on everything, was that way bred. I gave up trying to get one, and could never have hoped to get one as good anyway. Over the years I've seen trends come and go, perhaps there'll be a resurgence of this type.
  14. Paul, It's a very emotive subject, and one I doubt will attract may response simply because of that. Though it's a discussion certainly worth having. From my own perspective, if a dog was no use as a worker, and as you say there are plenty. That said, there are plenty with potential who's owner lack the skill or patience to get the best out of them, but that's another debate. Before anyone takes offence, I have been guilty in the past myself, and have parted with dogs too soon, simply because I had lost patience with slow maturing type, or where the dog and I did not suit each other (proba
  15. Ditch PM me with what you have (trainer/owner, track you think it was), and I'll see If I can help. I'm not that old, but I know people who are. It will be tough on what you say you have, but will do my best, Nihil ausum nihil lucratum.
  16. leave off the dry mix and get her on some breast of lamb and beef chunks Hi, There could be many reasons why she's not putting on weight, but IF it is worm infestation then Drontal Plus is your best bet, quite expensive but will do the trick. You get them on the net, cheaper in bulk, or from your vet.
  17. Hi, I don't wish to alarm you, and without seeing the dog it's impossible to say, but it sounds like he's ailing for something. As if you treat him the same as your others, there has to be a reason why he cannot keep condition. Your vet should be able to identify whatever may be the problem and sort it out. One tip though, try to stick to a diet, as chopping and changing, even with ther very best of intentions will only compound the problem, in the short term anyway. Hope you get him sorted.
  18. Hi. Check out http://www.hideandcollars.co.uk, they're the best collars I have seen, expensive but quality. Othewise look on e-bay, loads of sellers make their own so (I imagine) would be happy to make some to your whatever spec you want.
  19. Had the problem with other types and apart from being bloody annoying, it makes such a mess. I always found that taping a bandage tube over the end - protruding a little and left open, helps. Not left on, tail will rot, just put on at times of most risk, usually in kennel. Not sure it would work on Springer, but worth a go. As stated previously docking is the answer, but more of an issue with adult dogs. Hope you manage to sort it.
  20. I have a double set I am willing to let go, which I think may suit. They're the real deal, not the mickey mouse types you get these days. PM me and I will send you pictures. I have problems getting photos on here.
  21. Spot on in my view! If anyone does inoculate their own, care should be taken about the source and how the product has been stored, throughout. It may be well within the use by date, but vaccines can be susceptible to extremes of temperature, and while they may seem fine, could be useless. Personally I wouldn't use anything unless I had total confidence in the source(s). Yes, vets do have a very high mark up, but as mentioned above, the cost of cutting corners potentially could be far higher. I also provide my vet with little or no business, apart from having pups correctly inoculated.
