dont apologise i want to see a fight at playtime! :boxing:

if it has the jap optics then you wont go wrong mate. very clear optics for the money. have you looked though it ? if so and you like it get it. JAMIE.as keith says tasco are good for the money the new range of scopes are decent but for £50 for a hornet you cant beat that with a big stick.
-
JOHN.put your fingers in your ears and pull the trigger with your knob ffs.get a grip man!
-
YOUNG.as ditch suggests thats more or less the same method i use differant parts of the hand give some strange noises your best trying differant noises, practice makes perfect!always keep your hand and lips dry for best results if you really struggle you can always buy a whistle or a caller.

SMASHER. i have vx-iii.4.5-14-50 with the duplex reticle i looked at the varmint but as deker stated you will lose it against a dark background.this scope has been on my 17hmr and i found it more than adequate for rabitts to 150 yds.it really shines in low light so i switched it to my 17 rem/tikka- lilja barrel i have a night vision unit [archer] on it and use it for day shooting, was out last sunday shooting bunnies and range finding and hitting them out to 260 yds the scope does it,.i would say the sight picture is so good and with the side parallax you get your moneys worth.i would say the

JOHN.if i were to recommend one manual id say HODGDONS the last one i bought was the 26th edition its updated every year and is really a book.it contains a wealth of info on calibres and there history.i dont buy any at all now all my rifles are custom/wildcat calibres so i get all my info from the internet/reloading websites.sierra also do a good one but i would pick HODGDONS.
-
JOHN. another fine write up!im afraid its all i can do at the minute to be on the computer im laid up at home i twisted my knee at work, got down from some scaffold without using the ladder hope to be out at the weekend. is the rifle in the picture a HOWA?keep up the posts.
-
get a 17 rem and it will do both fox to 200yds ,rabbits to 250 if you can hit em!
-
the best thing to do is cut 6 inches off the barrel-then it will fit in the bin!

ive just bought one of ebay mate thought it was to good to be true picked it up today posted from china havnt got it on the gun yet mate but it sure does what it says and the illuminated crosshairs are different powers so you can use them in varying light seem the bollocks for 21 pound if its from china its not a geniune bushnell but it may suite your needs.
-
i know for a fact a 17rem will drop roe deer when head shot.helped a farmer out with some rogue deer once.took out 3 in one night[i know its not legit before you all jump up and down]

KEITH. this question is asked by just about anyone who buys a rifle. when i first started loading i was shown by well known fox man,he convinced me with this statement. if your a deer stalker who may only shoot 30-40 rounds a year then reloading will not be cheaper than buying factory ammo the time saved reloading will be better spent out stalking.but if you are a fox-rabbit-deer-crow shooter then investing a few quid[a few quid thats an understatement] and a lot of time in tuning your loads to suite your rifles will yield bigger rewards than the deer stalker can dream of. this is as all

why didnt the bloke with the camera shout out :hes behind you: this could have saved john a lot of time instead of fu**ing around on his computer.well im off out now to look :for that wabbit in the picture!

new scope.... but can sight it up
garyw replied to sam-jones69's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
sam. there is a thing when buying scopes and it is save up for the best you can afford ,then save some more and get a better one a cheap scope weather its on an air gun or a custom rifle will limit the set up but put a top end scope on a half decent gun will improve it no end.when you have a good scope or more than one you can always transfer them onto whatever you buy. i think most of us have gone down this route before i admit i have and quickly learned to buy the best.the old saying of you cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear, springs to mind.my opinion if you want would be to take t -
well done mr logic now all you need to do is save up your pennies so you can buy something else.thats the trouble with guns there addictive!
-
KEITH. as a few others have stated dont worry about killing off the fox population in your area- you wont! foxes soon realise when another territory is vacant and will move in to exploit the new food source. there is a saying that:if you kill one fox two will come to its funeral!just keep those farmers happy.

-

-
good shooting there mr.logic if you want iv got some ear drops for that fox

NIGHTVISION. as mr logic stated a 40 vmax should drop charlie in his tracks can you borrow a chronograph and see what the velocitys are for your ammo.i doubt its this though! does your ammo gain vertical when shot on paper? as mr logic also stated only hornady at this time make factory ammo this was a shrewd move by both ruger and hornady they knew they could sell factory fodder till the homeloading boys got hold of some brass and dies. more factory ammo should be available as more guns are produced.as your in cork i doubt you can home load? if you can invest in some dies and use the brass

snap shot your right the canadien sniper s use leupold scopes for most applications but when they helped the yanks on this mission they knew long range shooting was going to be the thing. a 16x power scope would be use less at ranges past 1500mts hence the need for the nighforce.the video link does indeed show the leupold scopes but the actual shooting on the day was with nightforce .if you go onto DAN LILJAS WEBSITE i think there is a write up on the very subject.hope this clears up the confussion.
-
NIGHTVISION. as keith pointed out a soft point will not dump all its energy into a fox hence the pass through.i take it you mean 40gn not 40gram.is it factory ammo or your own?if factory try the 32vmax or 40vmax these will drop a fox on the spot, the 32gn will give you 4000-4150fps not whats stated on the box the 40gn will give you 3750-3900fps. did you find resistance when you closed the bolt? the 204 has a tendency to have a short throat, this is good for home loading but not for factory ammo. you will have a accurate gun there but to wring the best out of it you need to homeload. if not tr
