hi all, I recently bought a staffy pup, he is now 4 months old and growing bigger than I thought staffs should be, seen both parents and fairly leggy dogs, he is about 15" to the shoulder and bout 20-25 lbs and not fat at all, how big do ye think he will get, btw the dog is just a pet, soft as shite, terrified of other dogs in a big way, but good with my wee fella so dont care, got two patts for work

AIREDALE TERRIERS COULD BE ON THE WAY!
worldruler replied to skycat's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I spoke to the man who has the airedales about two years ago and he actually said he would give the pups away to a working home for free, dosent sound like a puppy peddler to me mate -
I seen both these dogs last year (im the guy from stornoway who wanted an alaunt pup) and they are good looking dogs, the pics dont do the 1/4 dog any justice, seemed very well muscled up when I saw him, but im just a novice

What do ye all make of this dog?
worldruler replied to cúagusgiorraí's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
collie, staff, terrier and running dog of some sort, typical british irish mongrel, used to see alot more dogs of this build bout 20 years back when I was a wee lad, used to come into the schools and play with the kids, imagine the outcry if that happened nowadays lol -
any pics of first cross dogs? also how do you find these dogs as workers? cheers John
-
another one, at his peak he was about 68lbs and near enough 25" to the shoulder, these dogs could run all day, one story thats might be interesting to some of you guys is we took both of them ot with my mates lurcher(breeding unknown and castrated but had been worked) and although the lurcher was faster than either of the two they literally ran him into the ground by the time we got home the lurcher was f****d and within a few hours my dogs were up for round two. That is not a bullshit story it might not have helped the lurcher that he had no balls and therefore less drive but they still knack

here he is at 6 years old and sick

I do have some pictures, one of the dogs is dead now, we think he had growths/cancer in his lungs started coughing up blood one daywithin three months he was a bag of bones even after being treated with steroids, couldnt afford it nearly 50 quid a week, the other dog is still going but not working anymore he is 8 years old and hardly any teeth left been kicked in the face so often, honestly they were among the toughest dogs I have ever known never heard a peep out of them even when hurt, as I said the only issue was the willingness to have a square go. One day they decided to have a go at

My bull cross pup @ 5-6 weeks old
worldruler replied to OHIO STEVE's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
lovley wee thing, not much of the airedale came through there eh? what game you hope to run it on? What kinda size do you expect these to finish out at? Good luck mate -
hi kash yes mate I had two border collie boxer cross and have been asked on more than one occassion if they were pit X, one in particulat had a big lump of a head on him, I used to work them on rough cattle up here in the hebridies, fairly good strong dogs, great guard dogs as well, more than happy to take a lump out of any potential bad guy good with kids as well, very very agile the heavier of the two could jump a six foot wall no bother at all. Bugger I miss me dogs
-
you ask why, well why not? I know that there will be those who say you shouldnt breed dogs just for the sake of it but thats not what I meant in the post, i mean if you had a good working boxer(proven) and a working greyhound then why not? BTW i do not own a boxer or greyhound so wont be breeding the mix I suppose its the same as people wondering what it would be like with alsation lurchers or belgian shepherd lurchers. cheers john
-
is that a boxer greyhound stabs?
-
What do you base that on mate? Dont think alot of aussie pig doggers would agree with you on that btw
-
all the pups in the litter of boxer collie X had level bites there were 8 pups in the litter, its easier for boxer breeders to breed dogs without the undershot simply because of genetics, (however they dont due to breed standards)a dog should not have jaws like that, so an outcross to a dog with a level or scissors bite will nearly always produce pups with fairly good bites, thats from what I have seen however a dog will be produced every so often with an overbite, this is not always as bad as some people make out, a slightly undershot dog can perform all the same tasks you ask of its level bi
-
yea they do mate but I had two boxer border collie X that worked rough cattle up here in the hebridies and both dogs had a level bite, both were hard as nails and fast as, that why I wonder about the cross with the greyhound.
-
Hi lads I was wondering if anyone has done this cross and I will tell you why I ask. I have had boxers and their X's but not with a greyhound, and from my experiance they were all dogs with high prey drive, most had very powerful physics and were damn fast, another plus I found was that after they had matured they were all very protective but not mad biters. The down sides were they did'nt mind a scrap now and again, all cat killers(could not break them of the habit) and all hyper as hell, plus alot of people say bad things about the dentation but this was not a problem any of my dogs had.
