  2. Cheers John, do you have any advice/horror stories about the problems I could run in to with my FAO while applying?, obviously pre-warned is pre-armed.
  3. Hi there, first of I would like to apologise if what I am about to ask has already been covered and if so Iwould appreciate being pointed in the right direction please... Right....I have had my SGC for a couple of months now so have been much more active in my search for permission and fortunately I have landed on my feet by getting and Air port, a huge country estate and several more farms. The land I will be shooting on has mostly already been passed off and has Deer, Fox's, Hare's and plenty of Bunnies. Now as I say I already have my SGC and I also shoot an Air rifle with NV etc, et
  4. Cheers for the pic Sam. Do you have to push in a button on the left hand side to load the cartridges in from underneath?
  5. Hi mate, is it the MK3 model and is it the black one or the Mossy Oak stock? Cheers
  6. Hi mate, my name is Jase and I am just starting out, problem is at 40 I'm far from young lol. But being out of work gives me plenty of time to try and learn another hunting skill to pass on to my 3 daughters, two of which are showing a strong interest in my shooting and love the two Hobs that I have just bought for them. I'll gladly take you up on the offer if it still stands and if your not too far away as I'm based in Sheffield. Kindest regards, Jase.
  7. Ive let GrCh know that I can also shoot bolting rabbits or pick them off with night vision as well, so I can do whatever is best for the extremety of the problem and whatever the seasons/conditions dictate, looks like he already has someone on it though, but he will kindly bear me in mind.

  10. The hob I got was from a local rescue. I was originaly going to get a couple of jills but wasnt sure how I would take to them, as this is my first time ever having one, also the rescue centre said that he was well handled and hand reared so would be better with my 6 and 4 year old girls. Podge as he is called doesnt get on that well living with other ferts, he wil socialise with em but doesnt like sharing a hutch??? Thats why I opted for him, as I just wanted one to start off with. As I dont even have any permission where I have just moved to I thought just getting one was a starting p
  11. Hi there, I have just bought my first ever ferret hob aged 4 1/2. I not sure if he will work but if he doesnt he can stay as a pet for my girls and I can always get another one from working stock if need be. My problem is I have never been ferreting and I need a good teacher. I live in Westfield Sheffield now due to a recent move and I dont have any permission in this area yet to at least have a go with my fert and to learn from my mistakes. If anyone out there lives in a nearby (ish) area and would like to show me how to go on with ferreting or any form of hunting for that matter,
  12. Thanks Kiwi, Some good points there. Kindest regards, Jase
  13. Hi Ian, I rarely post on here as I am a newbie to the Field Sports. It is something that I have been interested in for many years but never had anyone to offer me guidance, so it was always a non starter. Over the last few years I made friends with a bloke called Paul in my local who is a Dry Stone Waller and has lived and worked in the countryside all his life. He has working terriers and lurchers and I have been shooting and lamping with my friend Paul many times since we first met. I love the sport and the outdoors and I have started involving my 6 & 4 year old daughters and
  14. Sorry for my slow reply and thank you for all your comments. The reason I considered Sam for breeding was after speaking to a couple of my friends who have been connected in different ways with the breeding of dogs…although not professionally, they suggested that I should consider breeding him. They looked in to my Sam’s pedigree and were reasonably impressed with some of the name that popped up in his linage, Such as Badgercourt Moss etc. Their advice was that it is better to breed from a dog with good linage that can then be trained to perform in the field rather than breed f
  15. Just wanted to say that I took Sam out again this wekend to add to his training and I managed to keep him reasonably steady for his first ever mainly focust training session which I dedicated to steadiness and water retreives. I know the standard thing is little and often but once out in the valleys with Sam he never wants to stop...I have gradualy introduced him to water and the deepest he has been was up to his chin. This weekend I quickly made him think a small log was his dummy by showing him the dummy then turning my back and throwing the log instead of the dummy..... I threw it a
  16. Thanks everyone for your feed back....with regards to the above I can tick all boxes apart from the botom one, as Sam has not been proven in the Field....I love this Dog and would love to see him sire some brilliant offspring...however, as has been said previously, there are better out there and I would hate to sire some pups that are no use and become unwanted...that would be my worst nightmare. I might just have to take the plunge at some point once Sam has proven his steadiness to me and others tho, as I would realy like to see some good offspring produced from him....Steadiness is the
  17. That makes a lot of sense...thank you. I have been working on steadiness to a certain degree but inter-weiving it with retreiving to make the sessions fun....I do now think that steadiness needs to be my No1 priority...obviously without the steadiness the dog is a liability in the field. Many thanks. Jase
  18. He is currently a pet..however I have been training him to retreive fur and feathered dummys for the last 4 months on an off and he is beginning to respond to the whistle along with my introducing him steadily to water. I would love to do more work based training with him, but unfortunately, I have limmited knowledge of training regeme's...only what I have learned from DVD's etc....
