  4. Maybe some people just looked at the piccies TJ We tried AT LEAST another 8 earths after the first one. Had we known that the first one would be the only one to hold (at the time we didnt even know that one did till the dog went down) then the plummer bitch, Rosie would have been used first; in hindsight she would have been the first one in. The plummer bitch was collared up and she was tried in ALL of the other earths we found. We walked around for HOURS looking for more and I'd have been very happy to put up a post with a plummer who had been working, and very soon, I will - as

  7. Hope the little lad's ok - that can't have been a nice experience for him. Landowners are all the same - they always tell you there are 1000's of them Doesnt matter how many you got, at least you were out and about

  9. We were invited down to deep digs for a day out to check a few earths yesterday on his permission - a keepered shoot. Its a long drive for us and we set off very early. Deep digs keeper friend and his good lady accompanied us. With nearly a weeks worth of morning frosts we were hopeful, but yesterday morning typically was fairly mild. As deep digs two plummers are still only pups he had a couple of black dogs on loan which he brought with us. The little nuttal "Jen" was the first to go in - the first earth we tried held - a very promising start to the day, and once she had settled th

  17. Well we were back out this morning, with Nuala fully fit :sun: The weather wasnt bad, a bit windy, which as difficult in the woods, and cold, but bright. It turned out to be a very very slow morning, one of the slowest we have had - maybe its a sign time to move on to some other ground. There were rabbits about, as we'd seen them go to ground, but the sets here are very deep (some of them 16"+ not registering on the Mark III ) combined with the fact that we were using mostly very young kits, and one older one who worked them well but as I said, it made the going very slow... Early
  18. Thanks for all your comments. Runsforyourlife, its a Nikon D50, and no I just enjoy taking pics of the dogs working, something to look back at when they're old and retired, not something I'd wish to make money out of. Thankfully Nuala is much better today, she's been bouncing about the place as normal - just goes to show how resilient they can be. She's been rested a couple of days, will see what shes like out tomorrow. They do get used to running in conditions like that, as do the rabbits..
  19. We had a look out this morning, back to our running grounds otherwise known as "the woods" Not such good weather as last week, windy, cloudy, cold and a bit drizly and the morning went by much slower and wasnt quite so "action packed", mind you some of the action we could have done without today; about half way through the morning, Nuala ran into a tree and screamed the place down. Normally she'd pick herself back up and continue the chase but not today she howled the place down and came limping back After checking her over she seemed to be able to weightbear ok, so hopefully she'
  20. This happened to me a few years ago when I had to have my beloved 17 year old russell pts. She was very ill at the time, she had pyometra, and had had an operation about 3 weeks before to remove some teeth because of an abcess. The vet wanted to operate on her again but I refused and said I wasnt putting her through another op when she was so very very ill and old - she was blind & deaf and I thought the kindest thing to do was to have her pts - so not only did I have to make the difficult decision to do it, but I had to argue with the vet who tried to persuade me otherwise It took t
